Way beyond the lack of being practical. We have 30+ years to go, before these applications become viable. Not only are the designs of these types of vehicles impractical, but the safety standards are completely unwritten. Its no longer fun watching gov, and private investors poor money into ghastly expensive projects, that wont yield a thing to the common man any time soon. Money well spent=NOT
Crappy plane, crappier car. Marketed as a one chassis do-all to tour the continent, when any decent sized airport can have a rent a car waiting for you with proper preparations.
Pie in the sky really pie in the face. Reality is a bitch. Hey at least this thing isn't a mollerfraud. Asshole was waiting for an artificial lake to be built so he can start testing fixed wing flight? Let's kick his ass, I mean, really now.
@batvette If you have a flying car that can land on a road, why go to the airport at all. It's real market value lies in the transition between land and air. If you feel like you live at the airport, like me, this would be a god send.
@hironeden maybe a private road, think about what you're saying- it will be a cold day in h-e-double hockey sticks before either the individual states vehicle codes, or several federal entities(FAA, NHTSA, etc) allow takeoffs and landings on public highways.
I know what you're getting at it's just unrealistic, and since the above will be the case you'll still be stuck with airports.
@batvette This is the digital age. We're literally witnessing the bloom of the technological era and what it brings to us will be as uniqe and special as the automobile was in it's time. Don't rule out any possibilities based on what we can and can't do now because in 20 years, it will be a whole new world. New highways can be built and federal entities can be swayed by logic and saftey. I suspect to see flying traffic within my lifetime.
Yeah who would have imagined 20 years ago a world where it was illegal to smoke a cigarette walking on a street or driving in your car. Where if you spanked your own child CPS might come take them.
Where model rocket engines were illegal to send in the mail. Where you have restricted airspace over monuments, skyscrapers and gov't facilities. Oh and LOL to "federal agencies swayed by logic and safety"
@batvette I'm from a planet where you can get a map to any destination by talking to a computer, where I can reach anyone with a phone from any settled community, where you can talk to a machine and it will not only understand, but talk back and perform a service for you. 20 years ago, all of that was science fiction. Some how we dont think so. This is merely a compact cesna with fold up wings, hey dont forget the duct tape. Can anyone say Scripps Booth Biautogo? Yea thats what this is looking like. A over-zealous failure. Still waiting for my anti-gravity mustang/camarro (without the stupid non-conventional wings). That would be a true flying car.
Now they just need to figure out a way to add rotating jet engines so that we don't actually need to own runways to take off, and more importantly, land!
This isn't the first time a flaying car has been attempted-Moulton Taylor's "Aerocar" and the Convair Models 116 and 118 also were flying cars that debuted just after World War Two; neither were successful. I think the term "self deploying aircraft" (as you can drive it to the airport instead of towing it there or having to rent hangar space) would be the best description for it. Here's hoping that this time they are successful (and that liability doesn't come back to bite them).
@rafaelthecool u ever seen how much faster a propeller plane flys at rate and speed compared to a standard single turbine police copter which flys at ruffly max. 150 mph minimum standard tho is 90 mph for cheaper older model twin rutter police helis and a standard trainer plane flys at a minimum (at full power 250 mph) on straight away this thing is faster than a trainer plane do to its wing span and weight ratio needs bigger engine to power the thing which requires a HUGE prop thus morethrust

Besides, no one can afford one !

Here's hoping that this time they are successful (and that liability doesn't come back to bite them).

rafaelthecool 1 year ago
@rafaelthecool u ever seen how much faster a propeller plane flys at rate and speed compared to a standard single turbine police copter which flys at ruffly max. 150 mph minimum standard tho is 90 mph for cheaper older model twin rutter police helis and a standard trainer plane flys at a minimum (at full power 250 mph) on straight away this thing is faster than a trainer plane do to its wing span and weight ratio needs bigger engine to power the thing which requires a HUGE prop thus morethrust
