I was lucky enough to hear this and see it performed live by the Maestro and his orchestra in february 2009, in Belgrade, Serbia. I cannot describe how powerful it sounded live - the cool intro... the powerful choir... and then when you think it's over, the short reprise bit... it is the piece that impressed me the most from that evening's concert.
@ozcobblepot218 Directed by Pontecorvo, Marlon Brando on the scene, soundtrack provided by Ennio Morricone, screenplay : Franco Solinas e Giorgio Arlorio...this is a great movie, personally one of my favourites movie
Brando stated many times that he felt this was the greatest performance of his career. The movie itself suffers from poor direction and slow, inefficient pacing. However, the music is addictive! Too bad the soundtrack isn't more accessible!
I watched this film in a high school English class, and the thing I remembered best about it was the opening credits sequence. Really cool music and visuals. Thank you for posting this. And yes, the message of this movie is one that needs to be understood.
Rarely shown and hardly ever discussed. Actually it is very controversial and one of the very few films that have been made that attempt to colonialism and imperialism from anything like a realistic perspective.

They are indeed singing "Abolicao" (abolish/abolition in Portuguese)

Fantastic. I was always curious about the song and theme. Its haunting and even today, often for no reason I find myself humming it.

Had really bad reviews back then. I heard it was a terrible flop, but I personally enjoyed it and I'd watch it over and over.

And what are they saying? "Corazon" it sounds like, but not quite?

I'm thinking maybe "abolicao", as in "abolition" in Portuguese... but that's a complete guess.

It's a masterpiece. I think Brando may have considered this his favorite of all the films he was involved in.
