If Pittsburgh wanted to put an end to the shots at Crosby, they would sign a guy who could protect him, have the league drop the instigator rule and shut up. I love watching the superstars play, let's protect them so we can watch them and not the middle of the road, fringe players take over. Cheap shots? He went to check Gonchar and Gonchar went to the side and their knees hit. Same happened with Gleason. Ovechkin went to hit him and Gleason stepped to the side which made their knees hit. Campbell went into the boards side ways and his skate got caught in the ice. That's why he went in so violently. Should have been boarding and left at that. That hit on Crosby should have warranted a suspension though. That is as dirty as it gets and I can't believe Downie only got a small fine.

Ovi gets suspended for cambell hit whicth wasnt even really from behind and cambell said himself that he hit a rut and you can clearly see it and there was no intent to injure. Than the god father of cheapshot (steve downie) does that shit the very next night and gets a two minute minor. His wasnt even reviewed. Im not a crosby fan but to suspend ovechkin for the cambell hit and not the dirtiest sloofoot of the decade is just SICK. Downies was a clear attempt to injure no debating it.

"The Code" is a book written by Ross Bernstein detailing the the unwritten rules of fighting and retaliation in the NHL. Enforcers aren't thugs simply because they're malicious. An intricate series of things had to happen before Steve Downie dosed Crosby. Was it dirty? Yes. Was it ugly? Yes. It's the Code. Something bad happens to Stamkos, and it puts a bullseye on Crosby.
I suggest you people read this book if you really want insight into "a thug" like Downie's hockey mind.

@420MrSmith Crosby's "fights" all consist of him jumping a guy off a faceoff, pulling a jersey over the guys head, and throwing little rabbit punches at him while he can't see. All against the Enforcers Code. Yeah, Crosby is not an enforcer, but he shouldn't be jumping into "fights" if he's a superstar anyway. Also, note how any guy he "beats up" is lauded as some big fighter for his respective team. Not to mention Crosby's streak of blatant dirtiness to other stars and poor sportsmanship.

Cheap shots? He went to check Gonchar and Gonchar went to the side and their knees hit. Same happened with Gleason. Ovechkin went to hit him and Gleason stepped to the side which made their knees hit. Campbell went into the boards side ways and his skate got caught in the ice. That's why he went in so violently. Should have been boarding and left at that. That hit on Crosby should have warranted a suspension though. That is as dirty as it gets and I can't believe Downie only got a small fine.

Before I say this, I should say I aboslutely hate Crosby. Now the hit on Crosby was garbage. Biggest cheap shot I've ever seen. Ovechkin's hit was not intended to be like that, I'm pretty sure no one wants that kind of damage on their hands. Hockey is a physical sport. These players knew that when they started. Campbell should consider himself lucky. I've heard of players being parliyized from hits like that.
