its theoretical. Of course (right now) Computers don't have room for 16TB of RAM, but if you could put it in, Snow Leopard couldn't take full advantage of it. Its called 64-bit (x64).
In the near future, we will be using terabytes more commonly than gigabytes.
Understand, This is 1 year old. This page was not properly discovered on Apple's webpage. Not many people knew about it. What sort of video says go to this site, get me views?
I think I'm running the latest version of Quicktime Pro 7.6 (472), but I'm not sure. Are they really going to make 3 majour releases of Quicktime in that short time?
16TB would run you over $150,000 dollars at current ram prices assuming you got all 1TB ram chips which you would need 16 or 32 500GB chips. NOT! 24GB alone would run you over $2500.
I can't see how any normal person would need that amount though. I could see how a huge corporate office could use it, but considering todays applications memory consumption, not even half of the memory will be consumed, unless hundreds if not thousands of people use the same computer...
Snow leopard is going to be a 32-64bit config (between the both. It has dual bit technology. Not all cores are 64-bit (like the core 2 duo's in old macbooks.
32 bit can handle around 2^32 bytes, which is 4 gigabytes.
64 bit has 2^64, which is 17,179,869,184 gigabytes.
All new Macs will come pre-installed with snow leopard when it releases. But the only thing is that can you wait that long and We are not positive when it will be released. Apple will tell us the release date on the 8th of May
Snow Leopard better watch out, because Apple made Vista's few flaws sound like Hell, and now Microsoft is coming back with a vengeance. Windows 7 will destroy OS X in every way.
I dont know... I just downloaded Windows 7 today on VMware. Nothing really special has impressed me yet. We just have to wait and see. Yea True Apple has made fun on Vista, but I reckon they wont do that with 7. Unless 7 will be as bad. And I dont think OS X will be destroyed. I prefer OS X TIGER or PANTHER over 7
aaahm,... Windows 7 uses 1gig of ram on my macbook pro - just like vista. It sure is more user friendly (less annoying than Vista) but still it uses a hell lot of ram and other system resources. P.s. I have a 2,6ghz Macbook pro with 4gig DDr2 ram and a 7200rpm Hdd.
16 tb of ram....????? we re still in 2009 right????...........if yes then this s pure madness.......looks great too
have bee using the win 7 beta for sometime now and lets just say its not that much of an improvement over vista. Its actually what vista was supposed to be in the first place........why cant ms learn thing or two from apple????? their gui s such an eye candy......if I had the money I surely would ve gone for a mac...
hey, some people have tons of apps. and you never know how big of a jump technology will make in the near future. for windows xp it was the minimum of 256 MB of RAM and then it jumped to vista's bare minimum of 2 GB to even be comfortably functional. if RAM prices drop drastically when computers can support large amounts of RAM, then sure, we'll probably end up needing 16TB of RAM within the next 10 years. i mean, hard drives used to be in KILOBYTES. now look at them.
well maybe in the next 10 years, like i said, we will actually need 16 TB of RAM. yea man that would be f****ing amazing btw how in the world would some one be able to get a hold of 1TB of ram let alone 16TB FUCK !! lol i only have 4GB of ram and im hungry for more !!!
i dont run vista or any mac i run xp and the only time iv used vista was on my brothers laptop and which was only for an hour or two. i also have never ever used leopard or tiger or any of mac but i have seen both been run alot and i dont see how microsoft ripped apple off but i really want to try leopard i think i would rather that cos im mainly a movie editor and so they say mac is better at that stuff so im gonna go on ur side APPLE RULES!!!
Windows 7 is just damage control for the disappointment of a resource hog Vista is. Windows 7 is still Vista, but in the good ways. I like it, I have been using it.
I still like Leopard better, the more you run, the more the memory management shows, plus I like some features inherent to OS X.
Windows 7 is a step in the right direction, while Snow Leopard is a speed enhancement to the already better OS. I see no reason to expect Windows 7 to win the next round, but I am liking it so far.

Do you Australians or Brits not have anything better to do, because it seems that every video about computers, or anything computer related are all narrated by Australians or Brits.
yeah, that won't happen i'm glad it will be performance over features even though macs don't even need that they're so amazing already haha they just keep getting better and better
i know macs are already a 1000x(hyperbola) more efficient than pc's, but its never a bad idea to improve the performance, because it makes it that little bit (or a lot) better.
guys want to know another thing coming to mac?? bootcamp for 64 bit operating systems is now out for certain macs!!! =D for those of you that play games and have windows installed on your macs to do so, this is really good news: you can now use more than the stupid 2gb that you get stuck with for 32 bit editions of windows.
want proof and a link to download??:
Proof: support . apple . com/kb/HT1846
Download Link: apple . com/support/downloads/bootcampupdate21forwindowsvista64 . html
Im thinking about getting a mac like next month. . . I want the Snow leopard but Do I have to wait a year? CAN i GET MY LAPTOP NOW AND THEN UPGRADE IT TO SNOW LEPRAD?
Everybody needs to quit assuming it will cost much money (if any). Either way, I'm super excited apple is focusing on quality this time around unlike certain other companies.
Imagine how many things you could run at once with 16TB of RAM. I've never noticed any slowdown with 2GB even when running 5 or 6 different things at once.
The point is that OS X will be able to adress more than 4 gigs per process and it will be capable to take full advantadge of the 64-bit Intel registers, that's the point about 64 bit.
I ws happy with mac osx 10.3 then i had to get tiger more most of the software, now im have to gonna get leopard just to be able to work things. Windows a least got that part right
has anyone noticed any problems with their trackpad on their macbook pro after installing SL? is there a patch/update to fix this?

You will never...EVER...Not in your life time, need more than 12GB.

Do you Australians or Brits not have anything better to do, because it seems that every video about computers, or anything computer related are all narrated by Australians or Brits.

im really hoping this will either be a free upgrade for leopard users or at least CHEAPER
applealltheway1112 3 years ago
yeah, that won't happen i'm glad it will be performance over features even though macs don't even need that they're so amazing already haha they just keep getting better and better
strongmad86 3 years ago
i know macs are already a 1000x(hyperbola) more efficient than pc's, but its never a bad idea to improve the performance, because it makes it that little bit (or a lot) better.

guys want to know another thing coming to mac?? bootcamp for 64 bit operating systems is now out for certain macs!!! =D for those of you that play games and have windows installed on your macs to do so, this is really good news: you can now use more than the stupid 2gb that you get stuck with for 32 bit editions of windows.
want proof and a link to download??:
Proof: support . apple . com/kb/HT1846
Download Link: apple . com/support/downloads/bootcampupdate21forwindowsvista64 . html

16 TB's IS 16,024 GB'S!!!!
Serkon33PSP 3 years ago
no it's not. 1TB is _defined_ as 1,000 GB
linuxx0r 3 years ago
1 MB = 1024 KB
1 GB = 1024 MB
1 TB = 1024 GB
PurpleLightsaberAlex 3 years ago
1TB = 1000 GB when referring to storage, e.g. external HD's.
1TB = 1024 GB when referring to RAM.
weeoli92 3 years ago
1 TB = 10^3 GB = 1000 GB
1 TiB = 2^10 GB = 1024 GB
look up Wikipedia :)
even if 1 TB _was_ 1024 GB, 16 TB wouldn't be 16,024 GB but rather 16*1024 = 16,384 GB
linuxx0r 3 years ago
haha! good point

16?! 16?!?!? That's like...godly! If jesus had a computer, it would have 16 TB of RAM
ilikechocolate666 3 years ago 2
"Godly" doesn't come close into describing the power that Macs are gonna have!

kainaussie 3 years ago
I'm not sure if the average consumer is going to notice the difference between Leopard and Snow Leopard. Save your money, people.
Masteroftrancegirl 3 years ago
Everybody needs to quit assuming it will cost much money (if any). Either way, I'm super excited apple is focusing on quality this time around unlike certain other companies.

Woo00Oo0oOo00OooOo00oo00oOo0 16 TB RAM!!11!!1!!!!1!!! If this is true, then omfg, that'll be awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
toastface5 3 years ago
Imagine how many things you could run at once with 16TB of RAM. I've never noticed any slowdown with 2GB even when running 5 or 6 different things at once.

same here
marc180292 3 years ago
Its Official! Developers have released that Snow Leopard will be only for Intel Chips. PowerPc is now not supported
marc180292 3 years ago
16Terrabytes is a huge amount but shouldn't a 64 bit operating system support 2 Exabytes of system memory? - 16Terrabytes would only be 44bits

16 TERRABYTES?????
R4d1anc3 3 years ago
16 Terabytes of Hard Drive space. Right now we can get four, but when the four gig drives come out, we're going to need it.
helpmetechshow 3 years ago
No it says up to 16 terabytes of RAM (or memory, whatever you want to call it) not HD space. Now who would waste their money on 16 TB of RAM?!
Bobertoq 3 years ago
The point is that OS X will be able to adress more than 4 gigs per process and it will be capable to take full advantadge of the 64-bit Intel registers, that's the point about 64 bit.
btw Snow Leopard is gonna SQUASH Windows Vista
applerulez67 3 years ago
i know, i have 15gb ram and i think that is good enough, but i would still like a whole 16TB
cameronbrownrox 3 years ago
No. It's ram size not hard drive size.
palms831 3 years ago
Good Grief.
its like ill never be able to be up to date.
I ws happy with mac osx 10.3 then i had to get tiger more most of the software, now im have to gonna get leopard just to be able to work things. Windows a least got that part right
overpaidrockstar1 3 years ago
so.
does this mean that they will be switching from intel chips?
this makes it really difficult to purchase a good macbook pro if they are going to come out with an amazingly speedier notebook a year from now.
