he has a strap, but not a classic guitar kind of strap, more like a mexican requinto type of strap and is tight only in one place on the instrument.

I see it it now. I've seen straps that have a hook that hook onto the side of the sound hole, but how is his strap attached to the bouzouki as seen in this video?

it is the same principle as you describe it. only it is hooked in to some kind of pin at the neckbody joint.
