  • Anyone know if the book is worth reading? I struggled to get through A Tale of Two Cities and practically dragged myself through a bed of nails to finish Great Expectations. And this is coming from a girl who flies through Austen, Brontë, and Gaskell. I'm a huge reader, but I've just found Dickens's writing style a bit of a turn off so far.

  • I Love this Film I couldnt Stop watching it!!

Matthew Macfadyen <3<3<3 from Greece :))

  • I absolutely worship this miniseries.

  • this was possibly the best period drama i've seen on PBS. wonderfully dark and emotional... and matthew... SIGH...

  • am i the only one who finds Little Dorrit sort of similar to Jane Eyre? I think there are a lot of congruent aspects. They are, however, quite different enough for me to thoroughly like Little Dorrit and rather dislike Jane Eyre... (no offense, i just dont particularly like really any of the Bronte works...)

  • @1o951o8 Romantic works of this calibur do seem similar. Jane eyre, Northanger Abbey and Little Dorritt are the mainly known "Gothic romances." I've been studying them a few weeks back for Gothic studies. However Rebecca and a chapter in the history of a tyrone family are by far the closest comparisons to Jane Eyre. They are literally doubles, if you haven't read them I do recommend them, the Tyrone family is a shirt story so wont take long

  • @1o951o8 "Jane Eyre" became my favorite book at the age of 9 and I've read it probably 15 times since then. "Little Dorrit" didn't strike me as like "Jane Eyre" in the least. However, "The Sound of Music" did strike me as having similar elements to "Jane Eyre" when I first saw it as a teenager. ;-) Since then I've noticed the rich-widower-falls-in-love-with-the-governess theme in several stories.

  • Great Film

  • Right on. If Dickens had been around to oversee the adaptation of his book into a film he could not have gotten any closer himself. Love it.

  • My goodness, need to see this. :'( it's not available where I am, even in the video stores.

  • Well done BBC ! :)

  • An absolutely dead-on adaptation! I have never seen Dickens on film which so perfectly captures the atmosphere of his books. The settings and costumes were just stunning -- I had to watch each segment twice at least, once just looking and enjoying the textures and colors, and then again for the story! I'm a theatre designer, and recommended this to everyone I know. Bravo, PBS!

  • I agree. Apprently some others do, also, as it got an 8.6 on imdb, and very few productions get higher than 8.0 there.

  • One of my favourite books. The tv series practically is exactly the same.

  • Little Dorrit wins seven Emmy Awards!!! Congratulations to Little Dorrit and PBS!!

  • this was probably my favorite of the dickens adaptions.

  • Loved Masterpiece's Little Dorrit!!! Can't tell you how many times I've watched the DVD! Arthur Clennam and Amy....wonderful!

  • I abseloutly LOVED watching the episodes on PBS. My mom and I were so suspicious after you aired Part 4, we couldn't wait for the last part! The cast was incredible! Thank you for this remarkable show.

  • I know! I though it would be boring, since Charles Dickens did write it, but it is such a great story with amazing character development and a great storyline.

  • it was available for a period of time on the PBS Web site, but due to rights agreements, it is no longer available for viewing online.

  • @PBS someone posted on youtube the first episode which i just watched. but i want to see the 2nd and i cant find it anywhere. Its annoying that they make you buy it, unless you tape it because its supposed to be public broadcasting- which should be making programs available to everyone.

  • Utterly wonderful. What a beautiful and warmhearted Claire is in acting as Amy Dorrit and the romance between her and Arthur is just fantastic. I watched the last episode over and over again and can not get enough of this excellent movie. All the best to Claire and Matthew and the rest of the cast. pkaltofen

  • does anybody know what the theme song for little dorrit at the end credits for each episode please? thank you :)

  • I watched the final ending this past weekend and absolutely loved it!

  • i wish it didn't have to end this week! This production of Little Dorrit truly shows what Masterpiece Theatre is all about- or Classic, rather. I have to say, this is my favorite show aired on Masterpiece next to 2006's Jane Eyre.

By the way, is their any soundtrack to this? The piano score in the openings is quite beautiful

  • I agree! I was completely captivated by this story from the start. It is definitely my favorite show of Masterpiece Classic, and my second favorite masterpiece next to Jane Eyre (2006). And the music was so moving too! I want to watch the whole thing all over again.

  • i miss the ending :[ does anyone know where i can find it?///

  • The ending hasn't aired on PBS yet.

  • Here in Minnesota we have one more part left! next week they are airing the ending!!! i cant wait!!!!!!!

  • we all... the people who's far away from home would like to watch online the little dorrit masterpiece, but we can't 'cuz you made a restriction for the little dorrit videos (only available for the people who's currently living at the usa), please let us watch it without a restriction!!!!

  • ughh im so upset..i missed part 3 and i cant watch it on pbs because they only stream videos to people who live in the us..what is up with tht? someone posted the episodes before but i cant find them anywhere..:(

  • This is an incredibly well made series. I already think it is one of the best ever and I have two episodes to go. The direction and production are first rate and I cannot say enough about this cast. Claire Foy and Matthew MacFadyen are perfectly cast but so are the rest.

Congrats to BBC and Masterpiece for making such an amazing series and also to PBS for allowing us here in America the chance to see it.

  • I hate to sound ungrateful but really its more of a asset for it to be viewed here as it is a lucrative enterprise if it is seen in America

  • Points to the box at the side of the page to where the link lies... I have been enchanted with Dickens forever ? As when he tells a story it actually comes to life right before your eyes. Hands out to all a book of Dickens works

  • very pleassed for your response and thank you for everything!!!

  • can anybody tell me if this tv serie is here at the youtube???? i wanna see it!!! please help!!

  • I love Charles Dickens. Thank God for Masterpiece it is the only decent thing left on TV.

  • Matthew Macfadyen has such a beautiful smile! Me and my cousin can't wait till the 29th we are so thrilled to see it!:)

  • What happens on the 29th? Is that when the second half airs? I caught the 1st part, not at the beginning, but I would like to see the rest.
