  • So what "it's $500"...you're not paying for how big it is. You're paying for how it sounds and how convenient it is. They need to make a profit and if it's $500 so be it. It sounds great.

  • skip this pos

  • Holly sh++!! Sounds amazing!!

  • am I the only one not getting any audio?????

  • @mehtevas373 put it on 240p

  • It's so cool even for 500 bucks

  • this is a joke, right! all the video shows is the amp with the cable plugged in and somebodys thumb holding on to it, no sound no nothing.

  • 200 people missed the dislike

  • No disrespect to the ZVEX because it's cool as hell, but In this price range a Baron Snott Watt beats this in tone IMO. Check it , it sounds HUGE!

  • NEWS FLASH: Cool guitar gear costs money.

    More at 11:00!

  • Total waste of Money for $ 500 dollars. $ 100 - $150 max...

  • i cant see the video i cant herar de video

  • Sounds awesome!

  • I know of a great all tube amp that sounds awesome, has reverb, tremolo, and tone controls that you can buy new for $500. It's an AC15c, and it comes with 2 12" Greenbacks! Come on guys lower the price on this a bit! This is a little ridiculous don't you think? It's an awesome little amp, but I think a price point of around 200 - 300 would be a little more realistic for what you get.

  • Yeah I lol'd when I heard no audio and read that it's a 0.5 watt amp. I changed the video stream to 240p and now I hear the audio. Weird.

  • is it just me or there's no audio to this video?

  • I just brought in an amp from a store...i started playing on the thing...and it sounds great but now a tube is ALL BLACK. The pre amp tube...this is the first tube amp i have and...is this shit normal? I mean the amp sounds great. It's not noisy...it works...but...if anyone can give me any feedback on this i would really appreciate it.

  • No audio? Or is it because the amp is half a watt that's too quiet to be heard thru a mic?

  • Oh wow I didn't know the thing had a tiny built in speaker, I suppose if I had a good enough amp already and had 500 spare I would buy it but at it's price I would probably try to find a full build, very nifty little device though.

  • ZVex aren't about making cheap, run-of-the-mill products that sound great but look like Visual Sound or Digitech Hardwire pedals. They're about expensive, quirky and unique sounding/looking stuff.

I would LUV to own this little thing, but not enough to warrant the price tag. Same goes for the Loop Junky. But I can see where ZVex fits in the market and how they fill a niche that few others fill.

Let's face it, ZVex wouldn't sell as many products if everything looked butt ugly.

  • dude its similar to the 22 caliber, except it has tubes. why not keep the tubes and controls, but lose the paint and move it down price wise.

  • why do someone buy a 500€ amp with 0.5 watt??????????????crazy

  • great amp. When you're making a video, they have this thing called "lighting". you may want to research it further.

  • Amazing little amp. 500 bones and a speaker cabinet, but in a recording scenario it'd be worth it.

  • love my surprise sound nano amp. cheaper and better imo.

  • Thats awesome man.

  • I gotta traynor ycv50 and I was just wondering if it's ok to take off the retainer springs on the tibes

  • go ahead!!!

  • I would buy this just to see peoples reactions when you have this on top of a 4x12 cab...infact anyone wanna buy my TT?!

  • Then build one, rockfreak.

  • This thing costs no more than $50 in parts. Charging $500 is outrageous! But the tone is insanely good.

  • I agree. Then there is like the 75 bucks max in labor. Everything by zvex is like this :(

  • Awesome, pretty expensive though!!!

  • This amp's cool as fuck.

And it was a nice touch getting Michael Moore in to do the voiceover.

  • he sound like the microsoft voice!!!

  • ...now let's rock.... :)

  • great video with really good descriptions 5 stars without a doubt

  • Very nice demo. You got at great voice for presentation :)

Nice Amp, I am definately going to check this amp out some more. But you gave me a great inside look of the amp.

Keep up doing what your doing

    5/5 *****

    - Adam

  • I'd learn to play and buy a guitar just to have this amp !

  • Great demo!!

  • Pay for what you get with this thing. For recording its perfect with the right speaker. Also, can be played live miced or pre-amp with a nice pic preamp.

  • Fuck man as soon as i saw this video i was trying to order this thing until i found that it costs 500$ ! Shit its expensive.

  • @suryajith i agree, its a nice little amp but for the money you'd have to be on drugs to buy it -_-

  • I liked The Edge type of picking. Cool

  • how loud does this thing get? cuz if the cranked setting you showed us is livingroom-compatible, i'll get one of these right now

  • AWESOMOE 2000!!!!!!

  • owned it for 2 days. my only review.

  • Its so cute. Mommy, I want one to take home for a pet.

    Seriously, its cool.

  • These amps rock! I have one and it's amazing to play-the same harmonic richness and fat distortion that tells you you're pushing hot power- ouput tubes. It's the sound of the fabled "ouput stage" distortion-at the perfect volume level. Cool.

  • thing sounds fucking great.... perfect for recording

  • How much does this cost???

  • it's great!!! can I buy it'?how much?

  • cool gadget but 500 bucks, get the fuk outta here, really? How about you keep the little speaker and the paint job and sell it for 300. The nme and 1000's of others would buy it. you got 80 bucks in parts tops.

  • Well thats like 2500 $ Tone, sooo yano? Ide shell out 500 for it = ] the internal speakers kinda cool, dont see that much, but ya i quess it could go?

  • @sniffy45 It's actually alot more than 80 bucks for parts, Zach uses THE BEST quality parts, and also some of the most compact circuitry avalible (so it's all very new)

  • @AttitudeCastle Maybe they could do a better job explaining that part.

  • @sniffy45 If anyone watching this new much about Zach they'd know this, (too many people know Zvex through Matt Bellamy in my opinion!)

  • @AttitudeCastle its cool man and I like the gadget but its not a competitive product and isnt worth 500 bucks but more power to Zach I guess. I'd rather spend 300 and have 500 sims and dial in any sound I want. I mean you could go on craigslist and find a vintage marshall lead 12 for 40 bucks that would put this thing to shame. But hey, Im not knocking the product, it is what it is.

  • @sniffy45 Oh yeah definately, if they were producing these on a bigger scale and dropped the price to 300 or less i think these would be properly marketable, And a Marshall or Laney will put must things to shame my good man!

  • zvex so creative...

  • lol what a cool little thing,

  • This may sounds strange, but I saw someone who had this on his pedalboard. If I use the output and put it on my board, would it sound good or would it "hurt something"?

  • You should never plug this thing into anything alse than a cabinet. Maybe the guy had his amp in amp in his pedalboard because it's harder to misplace it that way.

  • Maybe he wanted to adjust it during the concert like a pedal?

Really clever to have a 12V power supply that plugs into a car battery, the power source of choice of many street musicians.

  • This is great, i will never understand people who want 100watt all tube heads that they will never crank past 3 on the volume for the entire time they own it.

  • This is a serious amplifier. Not a pedal. If you're looking for a distorton/overdrive pedal look at a box of rock. Boutique amps like this do not cost 140 dollars. may I also say that you do not buy this amp to play in a stadium. so if you need something that sounds like a cranked plexi for large venues...then get a plexi. For someone that needs low volumes for that great tube tone, then this amazing amp is well worth 500 dollars. Just putting some perspective.

  • Well there is some measurement for it's worth, supply and demand. That being said, what is the cost of components in it? Is it completely hand wired, if so how long does it take to build one ? I don't think you could justify the price alone just because it's an "amp" if it costs the same to build as a stomp box. Most custom tube amps cost a lot because the components are expensive.

  • 499.99 is a bit to much for this little amp! I have a hard time thinking this will power 4 12's lol at a half of a watt.

  • I don't think it is meant to serve that purpose. lol; This looks to be something you can have fun with by using one cab. But I have faith in this little device so I'd love to see what it can really do.

  • greenbacks are god

  • price?

  • Gift of course !

  • jezus... it sounds quite nice.. for a useless little piece of crap that looks quite cool

  • lol..the internal speaker is a very nice joke!

  • OMG I want one

  • ***Note to self*** Must get a Z-vex Nano!!

  • not much headroom for cleans though...

  • what tube is in this

  • ya it may be small but can you turn it up to eleven?

  • for that push off the edge !!!! =))))

  • THIS IS BETTER THAN A MICROCUBE

  • Agreed. Definitely way better than a Microcube. Microcube cannot do tone like that

  • Is there even a!?

    competion

  • "You have selected Microsoft Sam as the computer's default voice." ;-)

But great distorion! That's true tube sound.

  • COOL

  • the price is ridiculous worth about 120

  • This amp is handmade in the USA vs. made in China like the Killer Ant. It also has much more control. No comparison. Also, to suggest that it is only worth $120 ( the price of a pedal) is hard to understand. Is $500 too high? Judging from the sales of this amp, I'd say not.

  • With parts made in Taiwan?

  • not the painted ones

  • well, you'll have to add another $125 for the custom painstaking hand painting.

  • haha thats ridiculous

  • u sound like microsoft sam :D haha

  • 500 BUCKAROOS???

  • To the guy with the plexi.... if sounding like everyother "classic rock" guitarist is your thing then the marshall is the way to go. I will but my road king up against ya anytime my friend. I can hit up any style of music within a matter of seconds!

  • This thing rocks, but it`s to expensive.

  • it does pack some gain though for some clasic rock. i wonder if the tubes fail, what kind of tubes to replace with? are they available?

  • 500bucks?

  • I think the idea is great, and the controls seem ridiculously intuitive, but $500 is pretty ridiculous. A Blackheart "Killer Ant" is projected to cost about $140, and while not having the nifty controls, it seems to have the same circuitry design, yielding what should be a similar sound. I'd definitely rather go with one of those.

  • Nice idea, nonsense price.

  • please make one for harmonica.

  • I'll put my 1987X Plexi MKII up against anything. Any time. Anywhere.

  • You're probably one of the guys who thinks their amp is the greatest thing on the planet, then gets blown away by a pod.

Plexis sound pretty shitty stock. Like jabbing an ice pick into your ear.

  • hahahhahahahahhahahahaha

  • I love the fat-o-meter

  • i fell in love with it the moment i heard it.

however, i was dissapointed to find that it would cost half a thousand. at that price im better of getting a killer ant or something else in the same league

  • man that thing is ferocious

  • i kinda want that

  • 3 handed man =P

Realy nice little amp, but way over priced. Maybe half of the price would be good.

  • i think that it is made out from a MXR or Dunlop pedal because of the distinctive pedal like case or frame

  • those are standard boxes that you can buy as an empty shell for homebrew effects

  • damn,i could not believe that amp can go wild and loud and how much are this things cost?

  • that things cool but not enough to be half a k

  • GREAT REVIEW.

I hate thoose reviews where they show opening the box ect. . . yours is much better than most.

    5 stars

  • It's because it's Zach Vex - he made the amp

  • That was such a good review! :D

  • Man... you sound soooo much like Allan Cross, from the Ongoing History of New Music... Even the inflection you inflict to the words... Are you Allan Cross? BTW, your amp sounds amazing!!!

  • it really does!!! its gotta be him!

    very distinct voice

  • It's Zach Vex... the guy who made the pedal

  • I like your voice. it's very relaxing

  • 500? fuck no!!! rip off!!!

  • Maybe, but it IS very nice.

  • Are you Zach Vex?

  • The Voice is Zachery Vex yes!

  • does not sound solid state to me at all..

  • sounds huuuge i think i am going to build one, where are the schematics? xD

  • WHAT A FUCKING SWEET SOUND!

  • That sounds so freaking sweet even for a really small system.

  • Yea, I know thats amazing that something that small can have sound that great.

  • For the price of $499 thanks ill pass.

  • the valve jr. head is 130. im guessing the valve sounds the same as this

  • Guess again!

  • this should've included a LINE OUT =(

so i could connect this into a mixer.

  • man the distortion of that little thing is INSANE! i love it!

  • this is the most awesome amplifier i've EVER seen.not because it sounds the best...but because it's just simply amazing !!!!

  • damn, that's preety cool. I want one :-)

  • dude i want one that is so cool

  • hahaha great stuff really!

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHA this is the first small amp ive seen and the first to use a Fat Guy for a setting......oh the future is great.....Fat guy, Skinny Guy, Regular Guy...i wouldnt be surprised of other companys started using that on their pedals and amps hahahahahaha...good stuff.

  • does the sound actually come from that or does he have it hooked up to a speaker?

  • did you watch the whole video? the speaker is in the bottom

  • ah yea thanks dude

  • Did either of you watch the whole video?

First he has it plugged into a 4x12 with 25w Greenbacks, then he unplugs it and shows the internal speaker.

  • Its a magic amp ;o)

  • is this sound coming from just the amp or is the mic pre-amp turned up.

  • Doesn't look like there's a preamp and power amp design, just one amp.

Whatever it is, it sounds incredible.

  • mine doesnt seem to work.

i turned it on and plugged in but i'm not gettin anything.

  • how much do they usually cost?

  • I see them for just under $500, which is a bit much.

  • its so nice!

  • Oh man that is the most awesome home guitar amp solution I've ever seen.

  • I only see one problem. You know how easy it would be to steal?!

However, this looks so awsome. Looks like it would work for smaller gigs, when you can't carry around a huge amp. I actually might get one...the idea of a speaker on it sounds pretty cool, and ZVex is known for being a boutique pedal company so this must be good as well ^^

  • that thing is amazing!

  • i think i need a tissue.... oooh

  • this rules

  • Sick!

  • woo!

  • This is one of the coolest things I've see for guitar.

  • Why in the hell do you need 100W head at home..that is stupid thing to do! This 1.5W thing suits you just right..And so tiny you can take it in your pocket! It's brilliant...

  • nice review

  • well... yeh. that's zachary vex... the creator :p

  • i got that. he makes some nice gear, i think more manufacturers should take the time to do small video reviews like this.

  • mhmm. he's just proud of his quality products, i'd get the nano but it's 425... :/

  • awesome.

  • dude that's freakin awesome!

  • this doesn't even come close to a "true saturated feedback fully cranked marshall sound"

  • actually I like this sound cause it sounds clearer than a dimed marshall.

  • Hahahaha. bullshit.

  • Pretty cool demo but 500 bones for this? Waaaayyyyyyy outta my budget, I'll stick to my Marshall Combos thanks though

  • im a pro tubeamp builder as well and for this price i can build you a nice 18watt amp with cabinet and speaker! and my amps sound as good as this one for sure.

  • Why are so many boutique and resissue tubeamps 18W nowdays? Is it a magical number?

  • no.

  • i think because they're all based on a particular marshall amp.

  • It's the typical ammount of power you get when you run two EL84 tubes in class AB. They are cheap, common, and sound great so many companies run [very] similar power amps.

  • its not the number thats magic....

  • Believe what you will, but $90 it was. The guy was a techie that worked for a synth company. They used to use it in modeling synths, but didn't need it any longer and didn't know what it was. Soo....asked $100, but all my old man had was $90, so he took it.

That is the truth. Honest. We're all entitled to one incredible deal in our lives, aren't we?

  • LOL...if u got it for that price then it must be second hand all worn out

  • that thing actually sounds really great.

i drive a 100W tube marshal combo amp, and considering how small this thing is, it sounds freakin awesome!! how much do they run for and where can i get one??
