@DarkWolfMitaki UGH! Are you kidding me!?!?!?! You got into Star Trek because of this piece of shit movie!?!?!?! This movie is dishonorable in light of ALL other Star Trek films. I got into Star Trek because of the Original Series and The Next Generation (especially that). This film gives noobies an unrealistic expectation of Star Trek. True Trekkies, like myself, absolutely HATE this movie because it has perverted a time-honored classic into a teen bopper.
Dude, I'm 14 i was 13 when this movie came out. My Dad dragged me to see the movie. Is it my fault that i, as a teen, got into the the whole thing just after the movie? no it's not. how would you expect me to actually watch the series before the movie at this age? psh i wasn't even born when TOS came out. So is it really my fault this movie got me into it? No i don't think so.
Plus i doubt all Trekkies hate this movie.
So, i apologize this movie got me into it. sorry it offendeds.
@DarkWolfMitaki I have news for you. I'm 21, I was barely born when TNG came out! And I got into Star Trek when I was 7 YEARS OLD! I'm not blaming you. I'm blaming JJ Abrams for taking a dump one night and had his inspiration to make a shitty movie. He's created a whole new fan base that associates their love for star trek on a movie that isn't even star trek canon. Sure, I also doubt all trekkies hate this movie, but a good majority of them (the faithful trekkies) do. They feel my pain!
@DarkWolfMitaki Hmmmm, yeah I guess you're right. Star Trek took a dark turn of sorts when Gene Roddenberry died, but the TNG movies weren't all that bad (very good actually). But this one took the cake; they ruined the timeline. It makes sense though: Paramount couldn't really make money continuing the original timeline (Kirk dead, Enterprise E crew split up, Klingons and Cardassians fell apart after the Dominion, and now a Romulan/Federation peace treaty). They wanted a fresh movie saga.
Yea and you have to admit this movie had some pretty good effects. and had at least one character from the original timeline right? They're making a second one and might bring Will Shatner in as a cameo or Kirk Prime. i think
@DarkWolfMitaki UGH! REALLY?!?!?! That just makes me cringe! I hope they don't bring back Shatner to play as another James Kirk. Kirk died in Star Trek Generations. I can understand this movie: Romulus gets destroyed in the main timeline and a new, independent timeline is created. I don't entirely have a problem with that, BUT now Paramount is just fucking up the timeline more. I mean, I love James Kirk (WIlliam Shatner), he was a childhood hero; but this star trek movie has gone too far.
@DarkWolfMitaki Either way, Paramount is fucking up Star Trek. And one would think that Romulus doesn't get destroyed in the new timeline. The Federation would at least learn from its mistake. The new Spock would at least try a little harder to prevent the hobus star from exploding. And as for resurrecting Kirk.....I don't even know what to say there.

@Forlo12345 I am in love with TOS, TNG, DS9, and most of Voyager. However as a standalone movie I thought the new Star Trek was entertaining and fun to watch, but it didn't touch my heart like Roddenberyr's Star Trek did.
@DarkWolfMitaki Trekkie here, and I don't hate it at all, I just put it in a separate category from the rest of the Trek series. I also think its FANTASTIC that this movie is drawing viewers to watch Roddenberry's Trek. Maybe one day we might see another series with the optimistic view Gene had when creating Star Trek. A man can dream!
Thank you for proving that Trekkie's like this movie! And Roddenberry's Trek was amazing too, I think JJ added a little something to the series that made me want to check the original Trek out. Because truth be told I didn't really want to watch it before this movie came out ^^;
@DarkWolfMitaki What, this movie, or the other ones? Because there are a hell of a lot better Trek movies out there than this...Watch The Wrath of Khan after this and it will blow you away
@DarkWolfMitaki I think I have to say this movie rocked and was one of the highest gross movie for the franchise which gave the company a boost.... I think it is the way it was because they took out alot of the trek sayings
I know what you mean... There's always a moment that makes you watch Star Trek... I hated star trek, than one faithful Thanksgiving I sat in my room, layed in bed all day and watched the Star trek Original movie marathon. 3 or 4 movies either way it did it. I became Starfleet that day ha!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
honestly i think Star Trek was boring.. never really into the tv show or the previous films...up until i saw the recent one.. one of the best films of 09....
Thank you for this audio edit of the ending credits. The acting and the music score were one of the few things that, for me redeemed the movie and almost made it Star Trek - almost. I cannot praise the acting enough. They captured the original cast and characters without doing parodies of them.
Sounds great! A lot of people don't realise, but the only movies to feature the Motion Picture score bit in them were the ones scored by Jerry Goldsmith, who sadly passed away before this movie came out. In keeping with tradition, this movie didn't get the Motion Picture score bit. It does sound amazing with it in though!
Well not to completely nerd out, but the theory of a warp engine is warping space...they talk about it on a lot of science fiction analysis shows, you can imagine star trek comes up a lot...anyway, you compress space in front of you and expand it behind you, allowing you to move faster than light without breaking the theory of relativity, otherwise to achieve light speed would take an infinite amount of energy, regardless of the mass.
@masterofpuppets444: Well. . . kind of. There is never a consistent on-screen explanation of how "warp drive" actually works. And the Next Generation Technical Manual describes the process as channeling energy into the subspace domain by way of an interaction from warp plasma and a substance called yttrium cortenide by which a subspace "compression field" is formed around the ship, effectively reducing the ship's mass to zero.
Theory and practice two very different things. What warp engines do is lower the mass of matter in the warp field to zero relative to surrounding space, enabling faster travel for less thrust. (Evidenced in TNG ep. "Déjà Q" in which Geordi wraps a warp field around a moon to make it lighter.) Then the engines use matter-antimatter explosions to propel the ship.
In practice, this would be near impossible to accomplish, for one since antimatter is so rare, and dilithium doesn't exist.
Nice fan edit. I do wish they had put the "TMP" theme as you put it in the movie somewhere.
By the way, I have the album "Star Trek: The Astral Symphony" which is a collection of several songs from the various TOS movies, and the best version I've ever heard of what you call the TMP (or The Motion Picture) theme is called "Life Is A Dream (from Star Trek V)" on that album.
the ultimate weapons the romulans werent thinking of was emp`s or nuclear war heads that can destroy a whole ship, and haf a gram of antimatter is as powerful as the tsar bomb. so get 5 grams of antimatter and destroy all of the worlds. 100 grams is good enough to destroy the solar system
Honestly as much as I love this soundtrack , and I totally get what they were trying to do. It would have been kinda nice to hear a snippett of the Final Frontier as well. Very Good attempt.
I love it! I have always loved the TNG theme because it was after written to be the theme of The Enterprise in TMP. I think Giachinno did a great job reworking the old theme, and Enterprising Young Men was superb, but i still hope they bring this back in Star Trek 12. Its a great theme and very iconic of Trek.
TNG is the symbol of well fought out combat, realistic technology and computer driven spacecraft, not the theme of octopus ships and engines made out of water pipes.
While I agree with your criticism of the new movie, leehan991, I am astonished by your portrayal of TNG as having well fought out (I assume you meant "thought out") combat, and realistic technology. The combat in TNG was mostly unimaginative and lacking any dynamic quality whatsoever, and half the technology was centered on impressive-sounding but actually meaningless technobabble. Sure, there are exceptions to both those rules...but they're merely exceptions.
It's like some little fool thought about it, I mean fought like with the lasers and stuff being set to things not all like *pow pow pow* Fought right, you know.
And yeah mostly, but the technology is based on theories of things that could be made in about 300 years. Lot more realistic that mostly found.
No, you miss the point. The engines move the area of space in stages along the line of travel, not the universe. This means that while the ship stays still, the space around it moves, this does not mean that the universe moves, just the area directly surrounding the craft.
Well right now we are allot closer to warp drive than we are to this "folding space" engine that everyone seems obsessed with.
Warp propulsion as a sub-light travel is also a possibility too. It's been observed in alien probes flying over earth that the system they use seems to be warp drive, making distortions in the air around that can be seen clearly on photos of the craft.
I'm glad they had this and the "Enterprising Young Men" as the themes over the TMP theme:
1. This IS their coming together... they're GETTING READY to boldly go where no man has gone before, just wouldn't feel right to have it
2. I honestly think that, by popular association, the TMP theme is really more for TNG... TOS has their old theme and this and plenty others... it'll use the great TMP theme again, but I do think that it's a bit more regcognizable as the TNG theme now
I agree with all the above. If this was in the official ending credits, I'd be looking around wildly asking people in the audience if anyone's seen Picard or Data in the movie. XD
I think people were spoiled with the tmp theme. The movie takes place before tmp's time frame, so it makes more sense not to have the tmp theme included in the film.
?!? It's just music! And TMP theme is an absolutely amazing piece of work. The reason this fanmix was created was because the author felt TMP should have been included in this new score--why was it left out, other than royalties? Geez, you're entitled to your opinion and all, but a movie is a movie--you can't stand on the argument about the 'time frame' as a fictional construct to justify something as real as film score. Just my $0.02 as a film music critic here.
though i like the TOS theme, and i like that they kept the theme and reserved it for the end credits, i also like jerry goldsmiths theme as well. There both good, and probly the most memorable themes for star trek. I also like this new theme as well, michael giachino did a nice job
I have a pretty good ear, and it seemed to me that the transition worked perfectly, like a ship suddenly going to warp. The transition would have fit in with the cedits sequence. (I've seen the movie twice in theaters.)
I definitely appreciate what you're trying to do here, but from a technical perspective, the transition definitely needs a bit of cleanup. The Goldsmith TMP theme just kinda jumps out of nowhere right now. If you can find a nice breaking point in the Gacchiano (sp?) soundtrack where he has the orchestra rest for a second or two, you could use the rest to interject the TMP theme.
Also, volume levels are juuust a smidge off. When the TMP theme jumps in, it REALLY jumps in. Just sayin'.
However, don't get me wrong - I always love mixing themes together, especially so they sound more "uniform" to a given canon. I sorta did the same thing with the Star Wars Shadows of the Empire "soundtrack' they did a few years back. I suggest cleaning up your version and reuploading it, because it's a great idea!
You say in the updates that 5 of the 10 films feature TMP theme at the end. Erm... Are these "George Lucas" style "updates" I've previously missed....? To my knowledge only 2, perhaps 3 (it's been rather a while since I've seen Nemesis) films that feature it... The first--TMP, of course--and 5, The Final Frontier, which is the particular arrangement for the piece that you used. Which other 3 films include TMP theme...?
First Contact (which is where I got the TMP theme for this from), Insurrection, and Nemesis. Generations was the only one of the TNG films that didn't use the TMP theme. Combined with TMP and TFF, that makes 5 of the 10 movies.
True, the TNG films didn't use them as main theme like TMP/TFF did, but just like this edit, the end portion of the credits used it, as well as used it as the lead in to the credits in the other 3.
Though, I suppose I should list it as 5 of 11 movies now...
When I heard this at the end of the movie I was very happy that they had giving a thumbs up to the old trek and i rather enjoy the way the made it sound new!
Actually, Alexander Courage and Fred Steiner were the 2 primary composers, with 4 others doing a handful of episodes each. Goldsmith was not involved with the franchise until TMP.
Actually, TMP (The Motion Picture) and TNG (The Next Generation) are the same theme (slightly rearranged). Goldsmith is credited with both. It was also used as the main title in Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, and as the closing credits theme in many of the movies. He didn't work on TOS (The Original Series). Alexander Courage wrote the original theme song to Star Trek. Goldsmith was Roddenberry's original chose to score "The Cage", but he had to decline because of prior committments.
people seem to get fixated on the smallest of things.
it didn't pick any of the old theme songs previously used in movies so that it could further distance itself from the rest of the star trek universe so that it could stand on it's own, and market itself to both old and new fans alike.
i agree with this decision. i think 'piccard' the moment i heard tnl theme (that was also used in the motion picture...but still)
let this new theme make you think of nothing but new trek.
Frankly, I love this edit! Very, very nice work :) I was desperately hoping they'd put some of the TMP theme in there, something undeniably Star Trek. Ah well, maybe next time...!
I appreciate this edit! I, too, missed that TNG ending. I understand (and long ago figured out) that the TNG theme only pops up in a Jerry Goldsmith score. But this just makes it all complete!
Trying to live up to Goldsmith, impossible....

DarkWolfMitaki 1 year ago
@DarkWolfMitaki I have news for you. I'm 21, I was barely born when TNG came out! And I got into Star Trek when I was 7 YEARS OLD! I'm not blaming you. I'm blaming JJ Abrams for taking a dump one night and had his inspiration to make a shitty movie. He's created a whole new fan base that associates their love for star trek on a movie that isn't even star trek canon. Sure, I also doubt all trekkies hate this movie, but a good majority of them (the faithful trekkies) do. They feel my pain!
Forlo12345 1 year ago
@Forlo12345
Well it wasn't really JJ who came up with the idea it was Paramount i think. JJ didn't want to direct the movie but he was kind of forced to.
DarkWolfMitaki 1 year ago
@DarkWolfMitaki Hmmmm, yeah I guess you're right. Star Trek took a dark turn of sorts when Gene Roddenberry died, but the TNG movies weren't all that bad (very good actually). But this one took the cake; they ruined the timeline. It makes sense though: Paramount couldn't really make money continuing the original timeline (Kirk dead, Enterprise E crew split up, Klingons and Cardassians fell apart after the Dominion, and now a Romulan/Federation peace treaty). They wanted a fresh movie saga.
Forlo12345 1 year ago
@Forlo12345
Yea and you have to admit this movie had some pretty good effects. and had at least one character from the original timeline right? They're making a second one and might bring Will Shatner in as a cameo or Kirk Prime. i think
DarkWolfMitaki 1 year ago
@DarkWolfMitaki UGH! REALLY?!?!?! That just makes me cringe! I hope they don't bring back Shatner to play as another James Kirk. Kirk died in Star Trek Generations. I can understand this movie: Romulus gets destroyed in the main timeline and a new, independent timeline is created. I don't entirely have a problem with that, BUT now Paramount is just fucking up the timeline more. I mean, I love James Kirk (WIlliam Shatner), he was a childhood hero; but this star trek movie has gone too far.
Forlo12345 1 year ago
@Forlo12345
Yea but Paramount is bringing up the bullshit excuse that he might not have died in the new Timeline. And Romulus get's destroyed either way i think.
DarkWolfMitaki 1 year ago
@DarkWolfMitaki Either way, Paramount is fucking up Star Trek. And one would think that Romulus doesn't get destroyed in the new timeline. The Federation would at least learn from its mistake. The new Spock would at least try a little harder to prevent the hobus star from exploding. And as for resurrecting Kirk.....I don't even know what to say there.

@Forlo12345 I am in love with TOS, TNG, DS9, and most of Voyager. However as a standalone movie I thought the new Star Trek was entertaining and fun to watch, but it didn't touch my heart like Roddenberyr's Star Trek did.
staypuft305 1 year ago
@DarkWolfMitaki Trekkie here, and I don't hate it at all, I just put it in a separate category from the rest of the Trek series. I also think its FANTASTIC that this movie is drawing viewers to watch Roddenberry's Trek. Maybe one day we might see another series with the optimistic view Gene had when creating Star Trek. A man can dream!

@staypuft305
Thank you for proving that Trekkie's like this movie! And Roddenberry's Trek was amazing too, I think JJ added a little something to the series that made me want to check the original Trek out. Because truth be told I didn't really want to watch it before this movie came out ^^;

Thank you for this audio edit of the ending credits. The acting and the music score were one of the few things that, for me redeemed the movie and almost made it Star Trek - almost. I cannot praise the acting enough. They captured the original cast and characters without doing parodies of them.
DanteLAurs 2 years ago
Sounds great! A lot of people don't realise, but the only movies to feature the Motion Picture score bit in them were the ones scored by Jerry Goldsmith, who sadly passed away before this movie came out. In keeping with tradition, this movie didn't get the Motion Picture score bit. It does sound amazing with it in though!

Well not to completely nerd out, but the theory of a warp engine is warping space...they talk about it on a lot of science fiction analysis shows, you can imagine star trek comes up a lot...anyway, you compress space in front of you and expand it behind you, allowing you to move faster than light without breaking the theory of relativity, otherwise to achieve light speed would take an infinite amount of energy, regardless of the mass.
masterofpuppets444 2 years ago 7
This works in theory, but after years of waiting I'd love to see a practical device for a change. GET ME OFF THIS ROCK!!!
Kl4pp5tuhl 2 years ago
@masterofpuppets444: Well. . . kind of. There is never a consistent on-screen explanation of how "warp drive" actually works. And the Next Generation Technical Manual describes the process as channeling energy into the subspace domain by way of an interaction from warp plasma and a substance called yttrium cortenide by which a subspace "compression field" is formed around the ship, effectively reducing the ship's mass to zero.
SCRebelMetalHead1 1 year ago
What you're describing is the real-life theoretical Alcubierre drive.
SCRebelMetalHead1 1 year ago
@SCRebelMetalHead1: Actually, I got part of it wrong. The substance is called "verterium cortenide", but yeah.

jobrossuckcock9 2 years ago 3
Theory and practice two very different things. What warp engines do is lower the mass of matter in the warp field to zero relative to surrounding space, enabling faster travel for less thrust. (Evidenced in TNG ep. "Déjà Q" in which Geordi wraps a warp field around a moon to make it lighter.) Then the engines use matter-antimatter explosions to propel the ship.
In practice, this would be near impossible to accomplish, for one since antimatter is so rare, and dilithium doesn't exist.
Chyron8472 2 years ago
Nice fan edit. I do wish they had put the "TMP" theme as you put it in the movie somewhere.
By the way, I have the album "Star Trek: The Astral Symphony" which is a collection of several songs from the various TOS movies, and the best version I've ever heard of what you call the TMP (or The Motion Picture) theme is called "Life Is A Dream (from Star Trek V)" on that album.
Chyron8472 2 years ago
the ultimate weapons the romulans werent thinking of was emp`s or nuclear war heads that can destroy a whole ship, and haf a gram of antimatter is as powerful as the tsar bomb. so get 5 grams of antimatter and destroy all of the worlds. 100 grams is good enough to destroy the solar system

SG1Mitchell 2 years ago
To be honest TNG theme does not fit...
TNG is the symbol of well fought out combat, realistic technology and computer driven spacecraft, not the theme of octopus ships and engines made out of water pipes.
leeham991 2 years ago 2
While I agree with your criticism of the new movie, leehan991, I am astonished by your portrayal of TNG as having well fought out (I assume you meant "thought out") combat, and realistic technology. The combat in TNG was mostly unimaginative and lacking any dynamic quality whatsoever, and half the technology was centered on impressive-sounding but actually meaningless technobabble. Sure, there are exceptions to both those rules...but they're merely exceptions.
LordKhyron85 2 years ago
oh god no.
It's like some little fool thought about it, I mean fought like with the lasers and stuff being set to things not all like *pow pow pow* Fought right, you know.
And yeah mostly, but the technology is based on theories of things that could be made in about 300 years. Lot more realistic that mostly found.
leeham991 2 years ago
lol realistic theories like
oh the engine of the ship isnt moving the ship but the universe
KidsandDrugs 2 years ago
HAHA!
No, you miss the point. The engines move the area of space in stages along the line of travel, not the universe. This means that while the ship stays still, the space around it moves, this does not mean that the universe moves, just the area directly surrounding the craft.
leeham991 2 years ago
fact.
tirrus13 2 years ago
Remember it is only a theroy, but it is the best theroy there is. When warp travel is achieved that is most likley how it will be done
vistarox 2 years ago
Aye aye.
Well right now we are allot closer to warp drive than we are to this "folding space" engine that everyone seems obsessed with.
Warp propulsion as a sub-light travel is also a possibility too. It's been observed in alien probes flying over earth that the system they use seems to be warp drive, making distortions in the air around that can be seen clearly on photos of the craft.
leeham991 2 years ago
well the engines also move the ship at like 10mps or somthing

I'm glad they had this and the "Enterprising Young Men" as the themes over the TMP theme:
1. This IS their coming together... they're GETTING READY to boldly go where no man has gone before, just wouldn't feel right to have it
2. I honestly think that, by popular association, the TMP theme is really more for TNG... TOS has their old theme and this and plenty others... it'll use the great TMP theme again, but I do think that it's a bit more regcognizable as the TNG theme now
obiwanobiwan13 2 years ago
I agree with all the above. If this was in the official ending credits, I'd be looking around wildly asking people in the audience if anyone's seen Picard or Data in the movie. XD
NewAngel4eva 2 years ago
I think people were spoiled with the tmp theme. The movie takes place before tmp's time frame, so it makes more sense not to have the tmp theme included in the film.
shawho 2 years ago
I wouldn't think that the chronological order of the films would have much bearing on the music.
CaptainPositron 2 years ago

I have a pretty good ear, and it seemed to me that the transition worked perfectly, like a ship suddenly going to warp. The transition would have fit in with the cedits sequence. (I've seen the movie twice in theaters.)
However, that's just my opinion.
JonathanSolana 2 years ago
i liked the new movie however i was disappointed there never was the tmp. i just simply have never enjoyed the orginial theme from star trek tos.
woollybully100 2 years ago
IT ROCKS ! :D
Demachic 2 years ago
I definitely appreciate what you're trying to do here, but from a technical perspective, the transition definitely needs a bit of cleanup. The Goldsmith TMP theme just kinda jumps out of nowhere right now. If you can find a nice breaking point in the Gacchiano (sp?) soundtrack where he has the orchestra rest for a second or two, you could use the rest to interject the TMP theme.
Also, volume levels are juuust a smidge off. When the TMP theme jumps in, it REALLY jumps in. Just sayin'.
AaronDanielSmith 2 years ago

ChromWolf 2 years ago
First Contact (which is where I got the TMP theme for this from), Insurrection, and Nemesis. Generations was the only one of the TNG films that didn't use the TMP theme. Combined with TMP and TFF, that makes 5 of the 10 movies.
True, the TNG films didn't use them as main theme like TMP/TFF did, but just like this edit, the end portion of the credits used it, as well as used it as the lead in to the credits in the other 3.
Though, I suppose I should list it as 5 of 11 movies now...

I don't know if Some of you people know this or not But Jerry Goldsmith Also did the original soundtrack to the Tv Show.
The TMP Theme and the Theme of the NG are not the same in anyway shape or form By doing this you kind of Honor Jerry Goldsmith's Memory. good job.
KidanYoshilda 2 years ago
Actually, Alexander Courage and Fred Steiner were the 2 primary composers, with 4 others doing a handful of episodes each. Goldsmith was not involved with the franchise until TMP.
omegazerocustom 2 years ago
