Normally kept in with the fish, and for some reason the pickled eggs are put with them. There's always at least one variety of pickled herring.

@dixiedolly12449... Get vanilla greek yogurt its either low fat or fat free naturally .. its thick, creamy and absolutely delicious! It doesn't have that bitter yogurt taste and it has more calcium and protein then regular yogurt. I also buy bagged frozen fruit (not pie filling or anything in sugar syrup just plain bagged frozen fruit) and I defrost and add that too the greek yogurt... and it taste a thousand times better then that overly sugary fruit at the bottom yogurt cups

I just had some pickled herring! I'm from America but my mother is from Russia and we're Jewish so we always have that stuff in our house. That and lox. It's absolutely delicious! I have it with a nice piece of whole grain bread. What you're doing has inspired me to eat healthier now. Best of luck!
Congratulations on your upgraded eating plan. It is important to stress that people should focus on choosing the right kind of carbohydrates instead of no carbs as they are not evil as set out by certain fad diets but a vital part of optimal health. Your examples of fruit, whole grain bread, oats, and beans are all excellent sources. Your meal plan also seems well balanced, which makes your approach a long-term one and increases your chances for success of permanent and healthy weight loss.
I'm very luck since I live on the western part of the US...fruit/veg/non processed are pretty cheap. We have everything you do, even pickled herring. :-) Congrats on the weight reduction and best wishes.
my family lives on pickled hearings, they're in the majority of stores in north america if you know which shelf/category to look in. too slimy for me though.
I love seeing all of the Swiss groceries! This is so cool, especially being from North America. I definitely recognized the pickled herring right away, because my dad used to eat a lot of it in some kind of sauce when I was a kid.
Julia, what about the bred and fish that you had in a bottle, you CAN buy them at any big store in America, we are not eating just "American food" like some people think, that there is just unhealthy food in our stores etc. it's not like that ))))
@ElectricLadyT bite into it like an apple? ;D jk, personally im not a huge fan of tomatoes so that would be gross :P i know a little girl that does that with bell peppers o-o maybe she tosses it a little bit with something?? idk o-o

Yup-Yup we do have whole grain bread in the U.S.A or "North America", and fresh mozzarella, Quark. We are multi-cultural so we have no problem finding anything from other countries.
@lovelypinkshoelaces The whole grain bread available in Germany/Switzerland/Nordic countries is a very moist whole grain bread and I have never seen anything similar in the states.
@ixolite thanks for the information. I wasn't looking solely for peanut butter though...lol. I was just saying things are pricey here, but then again I thought they were back home. Never know do you? lol. Anyway, I LOVE Nutella! I can eat an entire jar in like a week. I put it in oatmeal, malt-o-meal hot cereal, and on toast. Haven't had it in placement of peanut butter, but I'm sure it'll be tasty.
You can find it in Canada. It's called "German Rye Bread" and you can find it in almost any store. And you can find Quark in European food stores and sometimes in healthy food stores.
Oh, and you can also find the pickled herring in some markets. They have a dutch version of it in stores, and sometimes fish stores make their own.
This is really interesting and I'm happy to see we both buy almost the same kind of food :) I try not to buy anything too "fat"...a shame I often have lunch out and it's not so easy to eat healthy as at home :(
The biggest difference I noticed when I was in Switzerland in terms of food was the lack of fast food and convience food...In the US pre-prepared food is a mainstay. Also we eat sugary foods for breakfast which is not too good.
Julia, I had heard on an episode of Dr. Oz, that your body doesn't differentiate between high fructose corn syrup and real sugar, and that your system processes it just the same. I was wondering what you thought?
Wow. The meat was almost 19 US dollars for that package! I could easily go without red meat there. I have a low cholesterol diet anyway, so I'd have to do low fat cheese, little butter, and low fat milk and dairy. No fried foods.
I do find it easier to eat fresher foods in Europe than the States. I find it healthier with food laws and dietary requirements in Europe. Too many preservatives in American and Canadian products.
@IrishLincoln only if you go to exclusively convenience stores like walmart and such. In my area we have ALOT of farmer's markets and local meat available to us, even a dairy farm. Each of these places love to have visitors and take pride in the food that they raise being wholesome. This is something that I have spent YEARS in my community making awareness of and getting people active in. Unfortunately, in the U.S.poor diet its fault of self and laziness I.M.E.
@MissIndianaJones83 Ha, I don't shop at Wal-Marx. I can see what you are saying about shopping at farmers markets and such, but some people don't have such resources. I do raise my own gardens and can my own foods. I do agree that most Americans make poor diet choices. I however watch everything I eat carefully, which everyone should. My cholesterol problem is genetic, not a caused by a poor choice. I've cut our red meat and stopped eating fried foods. It helps alot with niacin rich foods.
@IrishLincoln its funny because the Irish are complaining that in New York all the food places, including star bucks have the amount of calories next to the price...whereas in Ireland starbucks will not show their calories in store. so there are still alot of things to do in europe. also it depends where in europe you get the food. alot come from green houses in holland or from spain (due to mild climate)
Every item in this video can be found in North America. Some of the ingredients you would need to go to a Whole Foods or Trader Joes to find it. Other ingredients, like Fresh Mozzarella (which I eat all the time) you could go to a supermarket in a predominantly Italian neighborhood (such as Bensonhurst if you live in Brooklyn, NY). The pickled herring can, interestingly enough, be found in some predominantly Jewish neighborhoods.
@jazmissionary Very true! And the "Quark" sounds like what we call yogurt cheese or Kefir, which can also be found at Trader Joe's, Whole Foods and most middle eastern groceries.
sugar substitutes (like aspartame or sucralose) are not good for you either. probably one of the best sweeteners is stevia. (not sure on countries where it's available, though)
This lowcarb diet looks pretty easy actually! I buy all your groceries already, I only need to stop buying products with sugar, which I don't buy that much.

I love this type of bread you buy. In Czech republic is everything you've bought available, but it's true that is not so far from Switzerland. And about the mozzarella cheese - this is my favorite like-mozzarella cheese (not made from buffalo milk) I love it!
Interesting! I'm looking forward to the "what you eat day to day" video, i think it's gonna give more specific ideas!
Are you doing this with your boyfriend? Because it's SO hard to do this on your own, believe me, i made the decision to stop eating crap and try to eat healthier stuff.......if your boyfriend is having pasta with steak next to you, BELIEVE ME, it makes you wanna throw that stupid salad out the window! hahaha!!
I loved your video, especially seeing what is available where you live. I never have seen eggs sold in 10 rather than a dozen eggs. Pickled harring oh yes, it is here and my uncles and aunts love it. Not me sorry to say I have a difficult time with fish. It was interesting and thank you for sharing.
OH, das sieht alle so lecker aus. Ich finde, dass gesundes Essen oft leckerer aussieht, als Süßigkeiten - und auch eigentlich viel besser schmeckt, außerdem fühlt man sich besser damit.

Quark is available in North America, as is the fresh mozzarella. Rollmops are sometimes available in specialty stores or you could make your own.

You can find fresh Italian mozzarella and pickled herring in the U.S. There's still plenty of Italian neighborhoods or stores around.

As for the bread:

IrishLincoln 1 year ago
@IrishLincoln only if you go to exclusively convenience stores like walmart and such. In my area we have ALOT of farmer's markets and local meat available to us, even a dairy farm. Each of these places love to have visitors and take pride in the food that they raise being wholesome. This is something that I have spent YEARS in my community making awareness of and getting people active in. Unfortunately, in the U.S.poor diet its fault of self and laziness I.M.E.
MissIndianaJones83 1 year ago
@MissIndianaJones83 Ha, I don't shop at Wal-Marx. I can see what you are saying about shopping at farmers markets and such, but some people don't have such resources. I do raise my own gardens and can my own foods. I do agree that most Americans make poor diet choices. I however watch everything I eat carefully, which everyone should. My cholesterol problem is genetic, not a caused by a poor choice. I've cut our red meat and stopped eating fried foods. It helps alot with niacin rich foods.
IrishLincoln 1 year ago
@IrishLincoln its funny because the Irish are complaining that in New York all the food places, including star bucks have the amount of calories next to the price...whereas in Ireland starbucks will not show their calories in store. so there are still alot of things to do in europe. also it depends where in europe you get the food. alot come from green houses in holland or from spain (due to mild climate)

@Lulipaz i dont think any cost of living justifies meat being sold for as less as 0.99 cents, unless its had some major reconstruction.

The grain bread you showed can be purchased at any Trader Joes, Whole Foods or even just your run of the mill health food store.
jazmissionary 1 year ago
Every item in this video can be found in North America. Some of the ingredients you would need to go to a Whole Foods or Trader Joes to find it. Other ingredients, like Fresh Mozzarella (which I eat all the time) you could go to a supermarket in a predominantly Italian neighborhood (such as Bensonhurst if you live in Brooklyn, NY). The pickled herring can, interestingly enough, be found in some predominantly Jewish neighborhoods.
jazmissionary 1 year ago

Kaddy2202 1 year ago
