  • What a performance, nobody even comes close, maybe except Heifetz, but he also admitted Dinicu was the best. Interpretation is full of soul and typically Romanian. Many virtuosos have technically excellent performances, but somehow lack the perfect style and soul displayed by Dinicu. By the way how can one dislike this performance? Maybe tone-deafs! Or wrongly selected thumbs down opt!

  • Nothing really compares to this version. Liviu Prunaru does a decent job though.

  • As good as it gets or ever will get.TY pet for posting

  • Corax176 - I have made several attempts at posting it. The clip was shown on Romanian Satelite Tv and I recorded that whole show on a DVD. I have problems extracting the clip from that DVD and encoding it in a u tube friendly format. The clip doesn't show Dinicu play the whole piece but enough to convince that he plays Spiccato.

  • Thank you, glad to find the original! :)

  • I'm no musician, but I know music transmits emotions and Dinicu's original interpretation transmits - to me at least - tenfold than other newer interpretations I've heard including Heifetz's, which seem clearer -just because the subtle differences are exagerated (just like in a cartoon), but unfortunatelly also transmit nervosity which is exactly what this song is NOT about... only when I listen to the original my heart lightens and fills with joy.

  • THANK YOU MAESTRO !!! Thank you for playing Romanian violin music the way it should be played. You have no idea how many today are trying to 'affirm' themselves technically with your piece. There are literary hundreds of 'world class' violinists who routinely 'break their necks' in trying to capture the magic of this piece, and its sheer joy of life. They play a hybrid of what you wrote mixed with up/down staccato cause that's what they've learned from Heifetz :-) You are greatly missed maestro.

  • Romania is awesome....and it has awesome people as you can see...:) Great !!

  • I adore Heifetz but this is simply better.

  • Love this version its accurate and raw..... : )

  • closest to romanian spirit,it was composed by him ,thank you maestro

  • This is just amazing. Grigoraş Dinicu is prodigious.

  • so good

  • ÎÎÎÎÎÎÎÎÎÎÎÎncântată !

  • @edelweis58 la fel! ;)

  • and the Master of all

  • guyz, guyz, this is by far the best interpretation ever! and I can tell you that I've heard quite a few, since I am violinist and I have a well developped staccato up and down, so I know what it takes to do it. I adore Heifetz, but this is just better...

  • @florinviolin yes ...the best combines the greatest musical and traditional elements

  • @Lisnageeragh true

  • @florinviolin I completely agree with you. Its all in the wrist aint it...

  • @jast11 wrist and fingers all together.

  • @florinviolin How can it be an "interpretation" if it's being played by the composer?

  • @DannyCarlton Hi Danny, I have reffered to the interpretation of the traditional elements. I hope you agree with me. greetz, Florin

  • @florinviolin I'm glad you agree...since this is the composer's interpretation! :)

  • @florinviolin Here here. To me it has the Romanian gypsy style which the others lack

  • please do not put heifetz next to this... this is just the music.. this is the best performance.. genius... dont know if he was the greatest that heifetz heard but its just genius.. :)

  • @emarkov if Heifetz said this was the greatest violinist he ever heard... maybe we are stupid and don't know much, so let's leave it to him...

  • @geezitssohard you do not agree with this statement?why?

  • @geezitssohard you do not agree with this statement?why?

  • Whoa. I can see Heifetz wasn't exaggerating.

  • Heifetz is a tidier player by far each of his notes are crystal clear.

  • this is the original version composed by Dinicu in 1906; Jascha Heifetz once said that Grigoraş Dinicu was the greatest violinist he had ever heard;

  • Well Heifetz its not goin 2 say he is de best. Its de gentle mans thing to do

  • Thankyou for partially quoting my comment on Grigoras playing of

Serenada Nr 1. And, This original Hora Staccato IS the Best

  • @avlieox He said Dinicu had the best staccato playing he'd ever heard but thats plenty good for me...

  • It is definitely Staccato

  • Delightful!

Does anyone know if Dinicu uses the up-bow and down-bow staccatos made famous by Heifetz, or does he simply play up and down?

Not being a violinist, I cannot tell.

  • I'm pretty sure he is playing staccato, what i dunno is if he also uses down staccato wich is much arder... id also like to know

  • @ipmoic from teh sound of it..he's just doing upbow cuz he doesn't haf tat ..roughness when ur doing downbow but not sure

  • @Flaminggential he plays spiccato through out. I have a black white video of him playing this piece. The up/down bow is introduced by Heifetz. I personaly don't see the point in the first place....

  • @oneoctavelow can you post the video, pleeeease? :DDDDDDDDDDDDDD

  • The original is the best, no doubt about it.

  • the original is the best.

  • It is just WONDERFUL to hear DINICU !!! himself :-)
