Excellent straight forward visual presentation. Job well done!!! Now cut 15% and lets get on with fixing the problem. Its gonna hurt for a bit but in the long run AZ will be a better stronger state for it.
Nice job of explaining the math and leaving politics out of it. Unfortunately the hard part comes in breaking down those numbers into taxes and spending. Arizona cut taxes 16 out of the last 22 years. Arizona also increased spending during many of those years. Bennett mentions cutting our way out of the problem but does not suggest increasing revenue as part of the solution.
He should have showed the same kleenex boxes table for 2005 and compared that to now. That way one could see where all the increases came. Most went to K-12 but some to the H&HS. Just lowering our expenses to that level will help.
Missing from here is the fact that the GOP legislators AND the former Governor are ALL responsible for this mess. We should throw anyone out who voted yes on these budgets.
Thanks for an interesting look at the issues before this state.
Excellent presentation! Every citizen should watch this. It really shines light on this issue and the phoney cries of pain by libs who say that the cuts are devastating education. Give me a break! Our child's teacher is always asking for donations of supplies for the classroom. This just builds the myth that they have a shortage of funds. There may be pain felt in the classroom, but it isn't due to lack of money. It is because of the bloated administration won't buy the supplies.
I was impressed with Mr. Bennett's grasp on reality until he came to the finale - the cuts. A "couple of percent" is not going to make up for a current shortfall of 3 Billion, with a revenue drop of about 11 percent - and increasing! Get real - you are going to have to cut spending by 15% across the board. Please get real, instead of saying "but we're the richest country in the world!" and other outdated fantasies. We're the brokest - 13 Trillion in debt and climbing.
Excellent video. The use of the boxes and simplification of terms made the presentation understandable and coherent.
Are there any programs or legislative items being prepared or discussed which would prohibit the governor and legislature from playing fast and loose with accounting principles in the future?
Great job, now lets see it again with Prop 100 factored in and the 2010 and 2011 budget.
