Kate O´Mara´s beautiful governess was actually fat and middle-aged lady in the original story. Nevermind, this film is so WONDERFULLY Hammer: gorgeous Gothic sets, beautiful lighting and dresses, vampires without guns and martial arts... and Carmilla does not discriminate, she prefers women but attacks men too! p One of my favorites is the bathtime scene - all so innocent in lovely period setting and then one of the girls is a vampire....

Back around in the early 70's Hammer Films had almost cornered the market in terms of the hot babes on it's books. In The Vampire Lovers with three megagorgeous ladies, Ingrid Pitt, Madeline Smith & Kate Omara appearing, we were absolutely spoilt. I should imagine the Hammer studio executives thought if you put those three together in one film, no matter how bad, how could it fail at the box office?. And they were right!!!.

I remember this was one of the first x films I saw when I was 13 or 14 lol it was the B film with enter the dragon. I can remember being very excited at see nude women. I don't remember what my reaction was to lesbian scenes but I'm sure it wasn't one of repulsion

Does nor really mess with the mythology as the book this is based on 'Carmella' was writen before Dracula. Carmella could walk in sunlight. Most sterotypes stem from movies on Dracula. Each vampire novel had its own mythology. The book is wonderful, though short.
