I'm obviously not counting the new motion dance games for consoles because they're not dance machines. I don't like games like this anyway, but...i dunno. Never heard of ITG. Just saying.
Konami Sued Roxor because ITG was a huge threat to their DDR Franchise. So they did what a occasional Business man would do. Do whatever they can to Sue them.
Konami now owns the In the Groove Franchise... saying that roxor copied/stole their game and just gave it a different name ETC. So now they have it and they just let it die. Production of ITG is dead. What remains is already been made and sold.
As New DDR Machines get made along with PUI arcade machines as well.

But once I tried it out of curiosity and I got hooked into ITG after a week... More harder, better music (IMO), better GUI, and better Platforms (Metal Pads).

This is the same thing that happened with Pinball machines. They kept increasing the difficulty until machines got so hard that they were ostracizing the casual crowd. When casual players see people playing like this, it makes them WALK AWAY. All the DDR scenes in my area are dead except for people who will walk off the stage when they get a great on one arrow. It's not fun!
So you're mad at people for being good at the game? If there was a maximum difficulty that was easier than this, a lot more people would be walking off whenever they made any mistake because they'd be forced to play below their skill level. And if no one played more than casually, then the game would be truly dead. Also the vast majority of people who every play anything like this play ITG exclusively, never DDR. Although to be fair, I personally scared away a casual played a few days ago.
True. It's a difficult problem to solve with a game scene - you have the people who have reached a "imposed theoretical limit" of skill, which is so far away from a beginner's / causal's skill that the beginners and casuals are intimidated, disconnected, or repulsed. (And where have all the freestylers gone?? They were the lifeblood of the game!) To be fair to the people who crave higher difficulties, I have yet to see people do things like this on doubles and without bar-raping. ;)
Those that aren't intimidated are impressed and driven to reach that skill level. That's what separates competitive gamers from those who just do it for the fun of not knowing how good they COULD be.
Flash AND JJ are both capable of doing this sort of thing without a bar. They both have at least 1 no-bar video up.
Seems the competitive scene is similar for every competitive game--whether it be fighting games, dancing games, or FPS'es.
"Dancing games," lol. I'd like to see someone actually, like, breakdance to those arrow smashfests. But to address your point: I know how good I could be. And you know what? It feels great to just DANCE to oni courses. It makes me feel good to exhaust all my stamina on a few songs - it's less expensive that way! ;)
@SeppelSquirrel you know there are other difficulties to play on other than expert. itg killed ddr cause ddr never added anything new to the series. itg added hands, mines, mods, custom songs, and all that was only in two games.

Why on earth would I bother faking a video of JJs feet? This was taken at Howie's while we were in SoCal for the US Open. its also pathetically bad. He had just started again after 6 months or so off. His technique was awful.

@VAAMusicalMike Its awful because he's stepping far out into the arrows, moving a lot more than anyone needs to. His left foot does far worse than his right. Nobody who is really good plays that far out, Calimist certainly doesn't anymore. If you want to see what better technique looks like I have plenty of more recent videos showing might tighter foot placement at much higher speeds.

Just practice ... lol. As vague as that sounds, that's all it takes, seriously. The more you play / harder songs you play, the more you'll naturally learn to conserve stamina and pace your body through out the song. =]
JJ is bad at slowdowns and hates crosses. I'm worse at slowdowns and terrible at crosses. Still, JJ can be amazing on pretty much anything when he wants to. I however am pretty bad at anything below a 13. I frequently fail to tristar 9s on my first attempt.
Not only is this an awesome video, but you actually get to see his feet. I wish more videos did this, as I think they're really helpful for people like me to learn better technique. (I really like admstyles videos for this reason)
They're better stamina players, but I just meant that admstyles usually does full body videos with feet. Most videos I've seen (including JJ/Rynker) tend to stay on the screen.

quick question for jj if he happens to swing by this page, do you find that you gain more stamina from your insane running abilities and what not or from playing itg?
haha umm I would say running does help just basically to be in good overall shape and healthy especially your cardio. I also think that playing a lot of high bpm stuff gets you comfortable with high bpm stuff, and comfort is brought along with technique, witch is the most important thing in my opinion :)
Thanks, my FA has been getting better recently. But I still need to improve my overall stamina. I usually end up heel-toeing any really hard songs for almost the entire way through. I really want to be able to pass This Calling, but that's a long way off. Record is 26% right now. :P
