It's funny how growing up playing the inferior cartridge versions for so long, that the nostalgia of hearing the cartridge versions again make me prefer them over the better CD versions of the same games.
Does anyone know the name of the classical music that plays in the very end of this video? It was the "menu" music in this video and I'd really like to know its name.
@exposed97 I'm not sure what the N64 has to do with this video. Regardless, the N64 may have had some good sound capabilities, but there really wasn't anything memorable on the system, especially in the way of sound.
That's the only advantage they have over disks.Their where much more expensive than CDS and contain more Data to use over the cartridges used around the time. Also though with fast load times you can stream data without loading it into ram like most disk based system.
U know how u fix a cartridge? U blow into it. U know how u fix a CD? Buff the scrathes (costs money either to do it or to get someone else to do it) or buy a new one (which is a pain in the ass). Which one do u prefer?
@an1man1ac54l1f3 I don't recall any differences in the menu screens. They both have the Sega logo and then a static screen where you select your games with the same classical music.
@AceNoctali, yes, it's been a while since I have signed in to this screen name. Good thing this question is only 2 weeks old and not 2 months!
You try to demonstrate that a CD is better than a cartidge? Wrong and I'll tell you why. The only reason why the CD sound output was better is because CD had much more storage space than the cartidge had. Example: Let's say The Golden Axe single track was like 2 Megabytes on the CD while the same game, whole game: all tracks, graphics etc. on cartidge was like 512 Kilobytes. Just imagine if modern consoles had some sort advanced cartidges of like 32 Gigabytes, I wonder about sound quality.
@seljak14022222222222 Erm, no he's simply stating the changes that Sega made in porting these games, truth be told most folks think the cartridge versions are better.
I'm back to bring you my personal SEGA CLASSICS CD VS CARTRIDGE BEATDOWN! It seems that the Genesis is already at a major disadvantage from the quality that can be brought from the cartridges, but there is a certain degree of coolness to it, which alone may make it the victor by appeal (some voices are shits)! However, the Sega CD may bust out some amazing stuff that can bring total domination! Can the Sega CD truly conquer, or will the Genesis catridge be amazing enough to take it all?
First with Streets of Rage: In the cartridge version, the voice screams are with digitized quality that mutes the drums in the music while playing, and are craps, but it does have a sense of thrill. The Sega CD version, while much better-sounding overall, does have a few wimpier-feeling screams, but there are fantastic! The victor this round is the SEGA CD! The music in both versions sounds identical.
Next, to The Revenge of Shinobi: in both versions, the music sounds PRACTICALLY IDENTICAL. The voice clip sounds powerful in the cartrige version, but mutes the drums when we'll hear it, like in Streets of Rage. There's actually a bit of realism in the Sega CD voice clip; though dampened in strength, it can be clearly distinced as an enemy grunting in defeat and does not mute the drums from the music. By a slight lead, the Sega CD wins.
In Golden Axe: The cartridge version have poor digitized voice screams which mutes the music and SE when you kill a punk. It's a fucking CRAP! The music is remixed from the Sega CD! For the Sega CD, the voices does let this time the music alone. The music is much so amazing, but the BGMs are taken from the arcade instead. Although notably for the BGM names "Path of fiend" was changed to "Fiend's path" and "Theme of thief" was changed to "Thief's theme". Haha, the Sega CD takes the lead!
For Columns: While there is silence for the Genesis's cartridge title screen, some may find it to be peaceful (assholes!). The Sega CD version has some excellent Arabian-techno style music playing for it! Sega CD makes definite victor!
For Super Monaco GP: OH, SHIT! The cartridge version has some POOR voice quality for its version (i'ts digitized quality); The music does not help: it's yet a crap with his drums. The Sega CD, good to say for it, has a GOOD quality for the voices, and the music have arranged drums; although notably "Keep it up!" was changed to "OK! Keep it up!" and "Final lap!" was changed to "It's the final lap!". "Now it's up to you!" is in the same voice as the driver. SEGA CD brings total domination!!!
so in total if you like these games buy the cd version cause it's better.i would have like to see outrun and some other arcade clasics beeing improved on sega cd with the scaling in outrun for instance.
the music is MIND-BLOWING for the Sega Genesis, For the Sega CD, the voices and music sound nice, but not as amazing (maybe they were taken from the arcade instead).
----------------------------------------
The normal music clips of GA is the BGM from the Sega CD version. All music clips for the cartridge are remixes from the original music. Just listen good to the quality and the drums and try to compare :D
It's Sol Feace (Sol Deace in the US for some odd reason). It starts out as the cartridge version and then fades into the CD version since the person who edited this video had mad skillz!
Actually, I agree with you, and depending on your Sega CD (it was released 15 years ago), you would have lots of lag entering, exiting, and changing screens.
I agree with that, but that sega cd golden axe never had the banned special move, that you could unlock with action replay, unlike the cartrage version, Its on my youtube channel if you want to see
I had this collection on Sega CD when I owned the CDX back in the day. This was actually a nice port of the Genesis classics with improved sound and music.
Thanks for contributing with your wonderful comment. If the Sega CD sucks so much, why are you spending your time watching Youtube videos about it? Gotcha.
32x upgrade for sega genesis. It was costing sega millions out the butt because sega fans did not always buy the upgrades after sega wasted millions making and manufacturing them. By the time sega finally made a game system the way it should have already done a while back sega was nearly bankcrupt. Now they make more money then they ever made before on account of making games only for every system. I am just glad they are still in business.
I think sega should never came out with the sega cd because it was a complete waste of there money and cost them millions of dollars. That chip that enhanced the genesis graphics should not have costed so much. It was an awesome graphics enhancement chip but didn't last long on account of the misshandling of it.
Allow me to "clarify" what i was saying. Sega had a bad habbit of upgrading every system except for dreamcast. Sega saturn required 4 meg ram cartridges to play certain new 2d games.
the 4meg ram cart was BARELY wat anyone would call an upgrade. it was a damn expansion pack, like the 4MB RAM pak for the N64. it wasn't expensive, and aside from being sold standalone was also bundled with the games that required it. and goddammit, some great greats were put on Saturn cuz of that 4Meg RAM cart! (and not on PS1)
I don't think so, no. If there was, it was so minute that I didn't notice. Revenge of Shinobi has the robot dinosaur, but some of the cart versions had that as well.
I have no idea what that is, I could never figure out how to beat any of the levels in revenge of shinobi. i first played it in the 6pak thing, and i would always just play something else.
That is indeed very nice to hear a game collection of Sega Genesis games for the Sega CD. It's considerably my favorite SEGA console...Do you mind...This isn't any offical Audio Deathmatch, but...Good morning, afternoon, and evening, ladies and gentlemen! I'm here to bring you THE SEGA CLASSICS 4-IN-1 AND 5-IN-1: CD VS CARTRIDGE BEATDOWN! From the start, it seems that the Sega Genesis is already at a major disadvantage from the quality that can be brought from the cartridges, but there is a certain degree of coolness to it, which alone may make it the victor by appeal! There's actually a bit of realism in the Sega CD voice clip; though dampened in strength, it can be clearly distinced as an enemy grunting in defeat (as opposed to the possiblity of a battle cry or an enemy death groan in the Sega Genesis game). By a slight lead, the Sega CD wins.
In Golden Axe: The voices are classic types of screams heard for the Sega Genesis, and the music is MIND-BLOWING! For the Sega CD, the voices and music sound nice, but not as amazing (maybe they were taken from the arcade instead). This time, the Sega Genesis takes the lead. For Columns: While there is silence for the Sega Genesis's title screen, some may find it to be peaceful. The Sega CD version has some excellent Arabian-techno style music playing for it! Sega CD makes definite victor!
The last game compared, Super Monaco GP: OHHH, OUCH! The Sega Genesis has some POOR voice quality for its version of Super Monaco GP; The music does not help, either, as it is only sub-par in both quality and appeal! The Sega CD, good to say for it, has made a HUGE, HUGE improvement for the voices and music, although notably "Final lap!" was changed to "It's the final lap!" and "Now it's up to you!" is in the same voice, supposedly, as the driver. SEGA CD takes it all the way!!!
The Sega Genesis has been BEATEN DOWN! The SEGA CD has SUPREME VICTORY! Thus, this ends this match! Boss (SuperPCEngineGrafx), if you ever see this, I hope that you're alright, whether you may be sleeping or moving in to a new place, and will be able to bring another Audio Deathmatch! Rankings Sega CD: 4 wins, Sega Genesis: 1 win.

cartridge is better because it doesn't damage like the CD, although the cd has more memory
So they should remake the UMD for PSP, but with more memory and for everything
Movies, music, games, and anything like that
Don't you agree?

Yeah. It's more logical for Sony to do this instead of using flash which is more expensive.

For sound quality the sega cd system was better than the genesis but the CD system was much less durable.
If not for the RPGs the sega CD would have been kinda pointless to have.IMO
I know Sonic CD was supposed to be the best but would it alone justify the cost of the system?
