It happened at Cal Jam 2...Ted's ego was over the roof, Derek and Rob had been booted from the band by Ted and Ted never did produce a top album, except for Wango Tango, but his approach to music had changed. It became all about Ted and the music wasn't the same. No longer were classics being written, now it was stuff like weekend warriors, state of shock, flying liplock and the like. There was no more grown up rock like, Great White Buffalo, Hibernation, Stranglehold, Workin hard playin hard.
Ted was trying to attract a certain crowd to make more profits instead of writing great music. His ego had taken over his thought process and the fans never got to see the Ted that was in this video or from those around this time when Ted , Derek, Rob and Cliff made a very tight band. It was Ted's ego that forced this band to split and for the fans never to see the band that should have been. Once Derek and Rob were gone, Ted was the show and that was it.
Before his ego blew up on him? The guy lives on his own private wildlife preserve, hunts & fishes, hard core supporter of the military in both money and action, lends his brain and talents to his political beliefs. The guy is a little bit nuts, a lot genius and seems to be an all around good guy. The only people who seem to have a bad thing to say about him are clueless Liberals who simply attack him because of his political beliefs. Take a look at him still rocking out as a senior citizen.
Ted plays this like he does, cuz his guitar is a part of him, not just some instrument to be played and that's the difference between men -n- boys...just sayin'...
"This one's for my crew. The crew that kicks ass every night and every day, got to have it every way - you know what I'm talkin' about, crew! Let's hear it for my crew, baby!!! This is a very special song and I wanna do it for all of my friends out there." Then Ted Nugent jumps into Hibernation...
@ChuckieInMT The first part of your quote comes from DBL live Gonzo as he is in the middle of STORMTROOPIN solo. The part of special friends is after he explains he could blow the balls off a charging rhino at 60 paces with his guitar. Then he plays HIBERNATION.
Ted is just smart enough to keep his drugs a secret, y'all. I don't buy the tee-totaler act for one minute. Nor Frank Zappa's. These guys saw what happened to the Rolling Stones, and didn't want a replay.
Frank Zappa was not using drugs way before Terrible Ted came alone.FZ played better guitar and had better politics, fer sure, fer sure.TN is a mean axe man on this one!
Someone thinks Uncle Ted is on drugs. That's f'''n funny. He's practically a tea totaller, IDIOT. He was the original high on life guy, still is, now more than ever. Obviously you do not play guitar or you would know that the right notes strung together on a guitar can transport you to a place of pure emotion that can be expressed visually through facial expression. The notes themselves generate pure emotion.
@SuperBlackheart99 - Yes, I have read this many times and I know you to be correct. If I could play like that, I might be possessed, as well...or at least act like it -
This song will forever be remembered as the greatest guitar solo/instrumental ever. At least thats the way I see it. Nothing Ive ever heard has surpassed it. Maggot Brain by Eddie Hazel/Funkadelic is second only to this
@wargasm58 I choose to believe Mr Nugent when he says he did not partake. His articulation speaking, his total command of his guitar and amplifiers (feedback and tone master) tell me that he is hitting on all cylinders. And he may be actually hitting on a couple more that we don't know about--he is nuts--but in a good way. Nary a slurred word or stumble--hardly ever a missed note. I have verified it myself around 40 times--from close range. One of a kind insaniac.
I got Double Live Gonzo when I was in 8th grade and Hibernation is what taught me to play the Air Guitar...I wished I woulda learned how to play the real guitar, but if I'da gone out on the road, who knows what mighta happened...
