@dogheadandy Respond to what? Nothing whatsoever against Italians my friend. I love Italy. I just thought that this audience should have been much more enthusiastic. That's all. Cheers.
Pioneers of this sound ... I am continuously blown away by how relevant and jaw dropping these guys lyrics and feelings have nailed the future ... or our today.
What a great song. At 3.21 I like it that the drummer comes in a bar late but they all see the funny side, should always be fun in a band, esp if someone messes up. Guitars are Fender Stat and a Rickenbacker with loads of reverb and a bit of delay or chorus I guess.
@robsmithsongs Your one of those are you? Maybe I'm wrong, pointing it out was enough. I'm not an obsessive Church fan, but there's just no need for the extra...
@BoycottStabb whatever one of those is, I guess I'm it. I merely identified that there was no mistake. It's how the song goes. I agree that it's great to see a band having a good time. I like the Church, but I'm not obsessive. Guess I just liked them enough to be somewhat confused by your comment.
i would like to drown myself with alcohol listening this music..thank you very much for posting this one of a kind live performance...college days nostalgia.
dy hotel the church and the fauves listening to this and i promise you steve that there hes not been 1 week since lets say 1990s show that i have not listened to sing songs gold arvo starfish priest sometime and of skins did i mention your dvd from nz now on my big screen thanks for the lot you are in youre own league streets ahead ta steve
The first time I saw The Church, back in 1998, this was one of the encore songs. I was so close to the stage that when Marty was doing the volume swells during the choruses, I could actually hear the acoustic sound of him striking the guitar strings, before fading the volume control up!
Saw them in Byron. I hadn't seen them since 90s. Amazing gig, such an electric vibe . I have to be grateful that vids like this reconnected me to one of my all-time fave bands. Stopped listening to them so much when my turntable died; most of my Church collection is on vinyl. In process of collecting CDs now...
It's a Fender Coronado. They made a version of it as a 6string and 12 string guitar. Wasn't very well received and didn't last in production for very long. I think it was the ONLY hollow bodied guitar Fender ever made.
Thanks. they would have deserved a lot more commercial success..
Otherwise they evolved from a rock'n'roll band to a more mellow and prog-rock and psychedelic band. They might have lost their bite but they are still relevant, see their last album:Untitled # 23 is excellent!
This band (on this particular record especially) is one that was really able to do amazing things with two guitarists. Peter Koppes in particular has created some of my absolute favorite sounds thru the years.
Fantastic clip of a band at it's zenith doing what it did best.
I just hope they bring the Vox's and Rickenbacker/Strat assault to the US!! They are kicking off in my town (San Diego) June 10th, and I really would love to see them rock one last time!!! Leave the acoustic set at home guy's!!!
Bless you for posting these!!! I have always searched for live footage and have been terribly unlucky. At least, I can view this here. What a great band. Again, thank you!
Of all the Church stuff on YouTube, this probably comes the closest to capturing the magic of the guitar interplay of Peter and Marty. Thanks so much for sharing.
Jesuskrishna: I don't have the NSEW performance or the Milan MTV one, but I'd love to hear them; and I'm sure others would, too. How 'bout dusting off that VHS player for us!
Forget the Vatican, THIS is the Church!!!

@BoycottStabb Ploog doesn't come in a bar late. You clearly have no idea what song you're listening to, or for that matter, what a bar is.

They have got to be the first and only Rock/Pop 80's bands that actually had guitar gods!! And Kilbey could not be touched lyrically!!

Great gods this is awesome. One of the most powerful songs they do live and the second best lyrics right up against Priest = Aura.
