This song expresses something of the intimate, excruciatingly private suffering of the modern commonly codependent woman writhing under the oppression of western capitalist social contrivances. When I heard this song in the late 1970's I felt known in a way I had never dared hope to be, empowered...a sliver of freedom crept into my life. Thank you Art Bears!
i love this music incl. henry cow and slapp happy since the seventies.i never heard something like this later.i wonder how famous this music is in usa.may be sometimes the amis have a good taste!
Lol downrating a comment with one fact and one opinion. If you listen to all of sleepytime's work and all of art bears, the resemblance in time melodies, instrumentation, and the occasional odd time signature IS worth considering.
Der Grund ist einfach, dass die Sprache des Liedes Englisch ist. Dagmar ist ja deutsche, aber die Band war Englisch. Ich bin trotzdem froh, mein Deutsch zu ueben.
many thanks for digging up more songs from this album, which i will seek out and buy, as i have all their other material on cd and vinyl. boy! this piece is very *prog-rocked*, but kraus and co can never be accused of being commercial. thankfully!

First thought in hearing - to me - a new band Art Bears.
"Wow, this is fucking crazy."
second thought.
"This is fucking brilliant."
I love bands that give me that reaction.
I expect a lot of art bears for my future. :)

The chorus contains a melody found in a sleepytime gorilla museum song "the only dance". I have a suspicion that it was inspired from this song.

And when Yoko Ono did it, they called her crazy.
Beatnikzombie 2 years ago
she did it like art bears?
yorikke59 2 years ago
She made similar vocalizations. She was way too much ahead of her time.
Beatnikzombie 2 years ago
The best I can tell she started her music in the early 60's and ended in the early 80's (yoko)
This singer started her work with henry cow members (art bears and slapp happy) in 1972.
So.. either they were both ahead of their time, or neither were.
