they look rigged but its easy to get around it, just move the claw right to the back then move it along and it will knock a toy off the back shelf into the pit so you can get it
You can tell that the claw loses all tension around 00:15 or so. They're all like that; the claw is opened by the weight and size of the prize, so that it's just the perfect size for the prize to fall without the customer noticing the action, it seeming like the prize just slipped. I've gotten good at either hooking a prize with a single prong, or, in some machines, just knocking hanging prizes straight into the receiving bin.
1 dollar a game? That is a ripoff for one. Second, the machines now are setup like a casino game. They have a setup console to set number of players per win so they cover their prizes, and to do that the claw wont close tight until the amount for the prize etc is covered. Only pure luck can get around that setup, thus, its' not rigged. It is just like a slot machine payout system now is all. The days of the old world crane machines is long gone, where you can clean it out for a few bucks.
i used to work in an arcade. the owners set the machine to never win. if you set the machine to win then you would have to pay for the junk you fill them up with and that wouldnt be profitable. the price

@Necrodius I would argue that it would constitute it as rigged, since with a slot machine you know that you are gambling. A crane machine is set up so that the player believes it is one of skill. Since players are led to believe that a lose is due to lack of skill rather than by pure random chance, they continue on to play. All slot machines are a gamble, but not all crane machines are set up to drop prizes. Since there is no disclaimer that the game is set up to lose, the game is rigged.
@ChristophProbst It is common knowledge that the game is both skill, luck, and randomization of the computer inside. Whether or not you win is irrelevant, it is the fact that there will be a "winning" grab if the player positions it right because claw strength is at maximum and it will hold the prize. All crane machines do have these "winning" grabs, and if you study a particular machine enough in a day you can calculate which prizes to go for during those grabs and how often they are.
$1!!!! u waste $1 on that in thats like 50p so in england its 50p right but for one of thoughs in england is 20p a go nd on £2 for one that play till you win!!!! and i though england was exspensive
me and friends found one of the universal keys to open those things up on top of the machine so when the staff is looking we open the thing up and grab so much stuff and run out yell that we won wit like 10 prizes
It's not rigged, just cheap! It says in the video description Joe got one on the first try. Therefore he got "THE WIN" now the machine won't give until it is time for the "NEXT WIN" it has to be played a certain number of times before the claw will "STRENGTHEN" it's grip and make it possible for another "WIN". It is all controlled by this little panel inside the machine.
This is the kind of claw machine that has two strength settings - one for grabbing, and one for holding. It's set to grab hard to give you an impression that it's a strong claw, but it releases tension as soon as it's raised and drops it every time. Probably the worst kind... I can't believe they're charging $1 for this.
you really have to look at the claw itself. in this one, the claws "fingers" are flat instead of curved, which can hold the shape of a basketball. the curved ones are seen in the stuffed animals one. therefore making this machines nearly impossible
