  • I have a mossberg atr 308 (awesome) and a Remington 770 243 (ok, since I paid 150 for it used with a leupold scope), ive never shot one of these, but I've heard good things about them. I think the smaller grip would be good for me since I have smaller hands. Sounds like a good rifle. I have someone wanting to trade my 770 for one in 22-250, hopefully Ill get the better deal haha.

  • What bipod did u get?

  • Miller, i have this rifle in .308,,i was going to pick up the Remington 770 in .308. But, when i read all of the horror stories about the 770, i quickly changed my mind. There wasnt anything negative about Savage rifles i could find. Please reply to BattleCobra. Thanks

  • Just bought one at Wally World today. Last one too. $267 + tax. Too good and reasonably priced, too not buy it.

  • walmart @ $267 Awesome

  • very nice review ,,

i like this set up ,was wondering how it was at the range ?

and if you ever ran some black tip round in it ?

  • i jut fired 200 rounds,nothing broke.!

  • I've noticed that the bolt gives some resistance towards the last part of bringing it up, is that the way it is supposed to be? The Remington 700 on the other hand goes up all the way with no resistance which is holding me back from getting the Axis

  • @BkBeast23 yep thats normal for them, if you notice the little bolt locking lug on the side of the rifle its whats causing it to be rather firm. nothing wrong with it, just means you wont be able to shoot super fast with it :)

  • @m0ng0053 awesome! Thanks. Now i can go get one.

  • if you are still looking for a scope i would recommend a center point 4-16x40 scope it includes rings, flip up covers and an illuminated mil-dot reticule and it is about $70. I just put one on my savage axis 30.06, ind it is great

  • Awesome video man I was looking at getting a Remington 770 and read nothing but bad reviews and everybody said to get a Savage and their both the same price so thanks for the great review!!

  • Thank you for this awesome review. Just wondering why you passed on the .223?

  • Does it have an ambidextrous grip or is it just for right handed shooters?

  • @WWGRD22 I shoot left handed, and I use a right handed rifle (Although this rifle is available in left hand) just reach over the butt, its not that hard.

  • Just picked up the Axis XP Youth in 243 for my girls yesterday and I'm really glad I did. We put a box of shells through it this afternoon with no issues and had sub 1" groupings within 10 shots.

  • thing is awesome and im def considering one. gotta say i like the ruger americans adjustable trigger though.

  • i have one in .308 and i love it. 1 inch at 100 yrd is fine with me for the cost. and i have fired over 20 rounds and my scope has not broken.

  • Where did you get your bullet sleeve?

  • @SassxOxMaster the store

  • If I'm not mistaken, I belive this is the "Savage Axis XP Youth Bolt Action"?

  • I heard the scope that comes with the rifle breaks after a 20 rounds or so, is this true?

  • @andrewvanrhoberts no sir i have shot over 2 boxes through my axis and the scope is fine so i do recommend getting this rifle i love my 30-06 the scope is a bushnell 3-9x40 sharpshooter

  • @andrewvanrhoberts The scope is a pretty basic Bushnell, but it works well. I had a Savage Edge ( same as Axis) XP and had no problems after about 80-100 rounds. Granted mine was chambered in .223, I still haven't heard anyone having problems with their's. Only reason I got rid of mine was to fund an AR purchase and didn't see the point in having two .223 rifles. I'm planning on picking up a .30-06 version in the next few months, so I was definately happy with the rifle.

  • @myltwon Ok, thanks for telling me :) I was skeptical about getting the XP version that comes with the scope because I heard a lot of people complaining the scope breaks after 20 or 30 rounds or so.

  • @andrewvanrhoberts it is absolutely not true lol i have put over 3 boxes through my axis and havent had a problem the scope is a bushnell sharpshooter 3-9x40 i highly recommend this gun

  • @andrewvanrhoberts not true

  • @andrewvanrhoberts I shot 30 rounds and it broke so HA. no not really 300+ rounds and still popin' em off scope is fine

  • @andrewvanrhoberts I have the exact same one, and it broke after about 50 :(

  • @andrewvanrhoberts I have a savage axis 30.06 and the scope that came with it broke after about 40 shots

  • @andrewvanrhoberts i have a .270 version of it and iv shot a good 40 rounds or so outa it and it still works

  • thanks for showing

    i bought mu 1st rifle savage 30-06 with no scope 2day for 249 $ .

  • Does anyone know the difference between the Savage Axis and the Savage Axis XP?

  • Hey I'm in between getting the Axis or the Savage 111 but I'm not sure? Could you help me out thanks! P.S. Either one would be in 30/06 and this will be my first rifle and I will be using it for hunting elk and whitetail deer. I'm also 13 so.

  • @flyboy7227 111 the axis is good but has an awful heavy trigger get the 111 .. or buy a howa... howa will run u a little more but well worth it

  • I am thinking about buying a rifle for deer hunting and I am debating between the Savage Axis or the Remington 770 what would be the better one

  • @HunterJman4 Savage.

  • @HunterJman4 savage

  • Thanks for the review, buying one after work today. On sale for $299 with scope.

  • Thanks for the review. Do you know what model Bushnell scope it is? Just debating weather to get the scoped model (XP) or not.

  • Thanks man! Very helpful video, I was pretty set on this rifle, but this makes me want to commit, I'll probably buy it on the 15th.

  • has the bipod ever snap off on you from its recoil if not what kinda bipod is it?

  • Just wondering how a few months of ownership has treated you with this gun? I just bought it in .308

  • Just bought this yesterday for $267 + 6% tax, but it didnt come with a scope

  • That Gun WILL shoot MOA the question is ...can you :)

  • between your savage and remington 700 witch one are better . am looking for bolt action rifle now.

  • @thegafe555 The Savage has better accuracy. Savage wins in my opinion (Remington is still a great rifle choice, though).

  • @millerusaf Remington is a lot more expensive, though.

  • @millerusaf hi miller, are civilians allowed to purchase of automatic rifle such as m16 or m4a1s?thanks.

  • the savage to is the best rifle i own i have it in a 243 and this last deer season i dropped a deer at 278 yards dident even take a step. and my savage modle 110 in 243 is all stock. but thats my input, hope it helped :)

  • @KevCal510 send me a pm. Youtube isn't allowing me to send you pms.

  • I hope they make an aftermarket baseplate thats metal so the magazine release is metal

  • my local wal-mart has these for $267 before tax, so i think i'm gonna pick myself up one in .223. i looked at 'em at a couple gun shops & the only thing i don't really like is depending on how the scope gets mounted, you're almost pinching your fingers between the scope & bolt when you run the action. but i'm sure that's nothin that a set of taller rings can't fix

  • i just bought an savage axis 30-06 i hadn't got to shoot it yet but i think its gonna be a great rifle

  • nice rifle!! excellent vid!!!

    james

  • Who gets a sore shoulder, Not me. :)

  • @hangemhigh2000 bullshit

  • This gun is on my 'to buy' list. Thanks for the review.

  • ive been looking at these, really want one.

  • My old savage 340E in .222 will do .89" at 100 yards with my plinking reloads. This is averaged over 80 rounds over 2 sessions. One flyer was discarded because I was startled by someone in my peripheral vision... Getting an 11fcns in 308 for 200 and 300 yds as the .222 opens up to ~6" and catches wind out there. Might have an Edge in 243 before that. Got a guy selling one for $75. Now if he'd just return my call... :)

  • Nice

  • @gboyd242 I wouldn't say the 30-06 round is antiquated or impractical. The 30-06 round is still one of the top selling hunting rounds every year,Hornady's 2010 catalog ballistics chart shows 30-06 beating .308 in fps and ft/lb out to 500 yards. The .308 is a great round that is sold in many tactical firearms but that fact does not make the 30-06 a antique. The move from 30-06 to .308(7.62x51NATO) by the US military was politically based not performance based.

  • I would have one of these in 308 if the grip were bigger. Even a lot of standard grips I find too small and this one is particularly tiny. Good to see you like it and I'm interested to see how the shooting goes. I bet you'll be able to do 1 MOA.

  • wow for under four bills. nice.

  • Great vid! GOD BLESS!

  • Very cool rifle Miller! You never fail to impress with your purchases.

  • I have a savage I paid 100$ for and I can split cards at 50-75 yards. Its also free floated, to my knowlegde all savage rifles are.

  • @timmyjunior1 Yep. Savage makes some really great rifles.

  • first off happy easter to you and secind how far would you vbe confirable taking this rifle out to with that satndard scope

  • @futuresolider96 I'll start at 100 yards for the initial shoot. After that, I'll go 200 yards, 300 yards, 500 meters, then finally (when the range opens it up again) the 1000 yard lane. It'll all depend on the performance of the scope, though.

  • great vid do you like to hunt with it?

  • nice vid. i just got the same rifle in .223. have not shot in almost 30 years, got to relearn everything again. its a very good budget rifle, i may get a larger caliber too. will be watching with great interest. thanks.

  • @hoodrat61 This particular rifle Savage just started making last year but they have been making their 10-series for a very long time.

  • 30-06 not tactical.LOL! WW1,Banana Wars,WW2 and Korea kinda make it tactical. Thanks for the videos.I can't wait for you to show the rifle putting in work.

  • @mrtlsimon That's like saying a flintlock is tactical because they used it in the revolutionary war. When a 308 basically performs the same in a lighter gun, with lighter, cheaper ammo, the 30-06 becomes antiquated from a practical standpoint. It's still a great round but there are better choices for a battle rifle.

  • @gboyd242 The 30-06 does have more punch than the .308 caliber. Especially if I decide to use something like a heavy 220 grain.

I purchased a bunch of Federal 150 grain softpoint for 13.99 per box of 20. The 30-06 round is very affordable to shoot and sits right around the same cost of .308 these days in stores.

  • @millerusaf I guess the 30-06 has it's place but for 90+% of people the 308 is the better choice. The difference in performance is a matter of a few yards (less than 25) when loaded to maximum pressures. The 308 also has less recoil, a shorter and stiffer receiver, lighter ammo. I can get steel cased 308 for $6 and brass for $9. Cheapest I've seen lately for 30-06 is $12.

The 308 is used in many 1000 yard competitions and if you wanted to shoot farther than that there are better options than 06

  • @gboyd242 To each their own. I grew up around the 30-06, so it has sentimental value to me. Plus, I already have a .308 rifle. For a bolt, I prefer the 30-06.

  • Nice, at that price, you can afford to replace the scope, put a Rifle Basix trigger in it and still come out cheaper money wise then a lot of it's competitors.

  • Yep can't beat a savage for the money. $400 got me a model 10 package in .243. love it., but thats why I watch you, Its all about what you can do with what you have not what the fanboys think you need.

  • can u buy it with a wood stock, nice vid

  • I was reading a review of this gun in Aus guns & game magazine a few months ago and the guy was sayying that this riflestock would bend around the pistol grip when he pulled the trigger, that really through the accuracy off and the bolt would have a habbit of jamming a spent round(wasn't to clear about how though) .

I think i would have gone for a weatherby sum moa only like $100-250 diffrence betwen the rifles here where i live or maybe a remington they are really cheap in aus now.

    Knight.

  • Nice rifle and you got it at a great price... Savage rifles for some reason dont get the same respect as others, but in my opinion and for anything that the average person is going to use them for, they are great guns! Good Purchase... happy easter as well!

  • Thanks for all the videos miller.Thank you for your service also.

  • @millerusaf

oh im sold on savage, i prefer european rifles for there overall quality and classic style, but as a shooter? you just cant beat a savage, for the cash its a winner everytime. I will be very interested in seeing how it goes for you i first thought you had a 110 in one of the tactical models but an axis with factory loads, should be interesting! May i ask why the 30-06? i thought being "tactical" it would be the ususal suspects, 308, 300 win mag or 338 if your feeling rich

  • @paltryengineer 30-06 is my cho0ice because I grew up with that round. Plus, the 30-06 is plenty "tactical" due to how many bullet weights there are, and the accuracy it displays.

Plus, for added "cool factor" I have some 30-06 AP rounds in that buttstock cartridge sleeve on my rifle :)

  • @millerusaf of or pertaining to tactics, especially military or naval tactics.

    2.

characterized by skillful tactics or adroit maneuvering or procedure: tactical movements.

    3.

of or pertaining to a maneuver or plan of action designed as an expedient toward gaining a desired end or temporary advantage.

    4.

    expedient; calculated.

  • Looks good Miller....Looking forward to seeing a follow up vid of it's grouping..... Cheers

  • @ohoh00007 I'm going to try and get out this week (maybe as soon as tomorrow).

  • nice vid, I have the savage model 16 weatherwarrior chambered in .223, the accuracy from just a sporter barrel is outstanding, i was shooting next to a brand new howa 1500 Varmint and shooting similar and occasionally smaller groups with handloads. The stevens 200 which i believe was the predecessor to that model did have a woefully bad trigger gritty and heavy as hell wich was the main reason i bought the model 16 the accutrigger has proven to be worth the extra money, just an opinion.

  • @paltryengineer The trigger is actually pretty crisp on this model. It's just a little heavier in pull when compared to other popular rifles out there (i.e. Remington 700, Weatherby, etc...). That was the selling point for me. I wouldn't have bought it if the trigger was gritty and inconsistent.

I'll probably save up and make my next rifle a fancier one like either an upgraded Savage or possibly a nice customized 700.

  • Amazing deal! Can't wait for the range report. Happy Easter.
