thanks, this video is very helpful. the tip on holding up the tail is a vital piece of info that makes the job fast and easy. I love my vet and so does my dog, but this kind of home care is so easy and helps them so much. Thanks!
Lmao ppl talkin bout him scratching his nose after he touch the dogs tail and ass haha. But I did this on my 2 yr old Yorkie today for first time and golly does it look nasty AF and not only that it smells so bad like bitter old nasty fish.. Lol.
Thank you for posting this Video my little chihuahua has a real problem with this and I can't afford to take him to the vet everytime this happens ...Thanks again for posting it and wish me luck =)
I've never had my dogs anal glands emptied as far as I know. When I saw one schooching around the floor, I had their poop tested for worms. The vet called me and told me my dogs do not have worms. So, watched your video and tried my best to do the job. Both dogs has a small amount of ooze, but both samples were the color and consistency of peanut butter. What's up with that? Lastly, how often do I perform this little trick?
@goofydog2 - I empty my two golden retriever's glands about once every two weeks because they are not doing it on their own. If the consistency is thick it means your dog is not doing it on his own and no one else has done it for some time. It shouldn't get like this - you should watch your dog - dragging but on carpet or biting at his butt or if you smell a strong odor of fish from that area. Be gentle and massage the gland, sometimes your finger will get in the way of the holes
@goofydog2 I can answer this question pretty well. First of all, it depends on the dog. Whenever your about to groom your dog, express the anal glands. If it smells, express them. You and your dog should be able to figure out a nice pattern.
(P.S: When a dog drags his butt on the ground, it doesn't normally mean he has worms. It could mean he just has a itchy butt because his owner never itches him there!)
Does the stuff come out through the anus or next to the anus through the glands own holes?

Thanks for the lesson. I'm getting ready to try on our 3 dogs and hopefully save a trip to the vet.
