  • Very nice review... I've been using android since 1.5 and really like how lightweight and efficient Symbian is. Really am enjoying the N8

For speed and generic phone functionality - Symbian

If your whole life is online or you're a power user - Android

  • so?? SGS2 or Nokia N8?

  • Very nice review,But I think you've chosen the wrong nokia phone,The E7 is more near to the screen size to GX2 , but E7 speed of the processor is still far,

Also You did not mention the SWYPE for typing which doesn't needs big letters to type, just Swype

  • @gamalbadr1 i would ave loved to have an E7 to compare! but obviously I do these vids just for a bit of fun and can only use whatever i buy lol. E7 has same processor as N8 anyway.

Actually been using symbian belle (and anna for a week before flashing to belle) and damn, it has given my n8 a new lease of life. The portrait qwerty actually works so much better than opera's in terms of accuracy so it doesnt feel bad at all.

  • @quagmyre2 man i own N8 too the camera is fantastic as u review it, but looks like after and upgrade to Belle my N8 seems to be lagging and freezing, any hints maybe? ive upgrade it from the nokia pc suite, regularly.

  • @ArchieME88 unsure of easier solution, but things like that tend to happen when old installed apps causing issues. unfortunately the only thing i can suggest is to format your entire e: drive, then hard reset (home button+vol down+camera key+power). You will likely lose Nokia Store tho so will have to install the separate file from betalabs.nokia.com (happened to me 2). Unsure if you can reinstall belle tho from pc suite as well if you already have belle since I use Phoenix to flash custom roms.

  • Looks like u have advance task killer running which u shouldn't even have because the of the task manager. And also advance task killer drains battery and kills the purpose of juice defender being that when u install juice defender it tells u to uninstall it...

  • @dubo321 yeah thanks for the update...i ditched ATK a long time ago cuz I figured it wasnt doing much for me anyway and everything would always just automatically run again.

in fact, dont even use juice defender anymore also, I charge every night anyway since i play with it less now altho the best scenario would be to not have to worry about phone not working if i forget to charge but that would be asking too much from modern smartphones these days.

  • Great review!

I was actually thinking of selling my N8 to get an SII but after I saw this (and watched a video about Symbian Belle) I'm happy to have changed my mind once again.

I'll keep my Nokia N8, since no other device has yet beaten it's superb camera and with Symbian Belle it begins to look a bit like Android. The Galaxy SII may be extremely fast etc, but my N8 beats it at almost every other aspect.

  • cooool.

    like it.

  • try thumb keyboard for a five row layout

  • @BOLOE562 just tried it thanks for the tip! works a treat...tho i cant quite figure it if it can auto correct mistakes (i can see an option to correct 'common' mistakes' but doesnt seem to do work?

  • i'm actually running in to the same problem as i am using this keyboard on my motorola xoom tablet. however, i don't rely on this option so i never need it. however, you should contact the dev to add more functionality to it. i've emailed the dev before and he's updated and responded in an expedient manner.

  • You forgot that you can take selfshoots with the front camera :D

  • @TheCharmedRebel09 thanks - i prefer self shots at maximum quality :)

  • @quagmyre2 Great Review.

Check Out My N8 Reviews And Tell Me What You Think 8)

  • @quagmyre2 : Use the self-timer (say 3 secs), just tap the shot button and point it towards you, works like a charm for taking self shots when there's no dedicated camera button. (sometimes even better since the pics aren't shaky because you don't have to press any button)

  • Very Nice review..

  • Great review. I am also a N8 owner looking to get the SGX2 after a long affair with Symbian OS. You mention a lot of the N8s pros which stand out so I cannot neccesarily get rid of it, it would be great to have both.

  • @RaceKaddet Yeah, I carry both around in my work bag (don't necessarily use both in one day though) and wish they could be combined also! Long time symbian user too and I switch between my N8 and GS2 every few days just so that I feel like I haven't wasted my N8 haha. But you get REALLY used to the larger screen and ultra-fast speed...benefitting me for browsing the web the most.

  • Exellent video. Many thanks for taking the time to make it.

  • @exoticasian30 thanks!

There were other areas I wish I could have touched on as well such as homescreen implementation, features that S^3 and Android come with (eg. built in wifi hotspots in Android vs separate download in S^3), apps that I can't live without, Maps/Navigation etc but not enough time! And also cuz the ones that were in the vid were the ones that struck me the most personally.

  • @quagmyre2 No worries, pal. I'm sure you could spend hour upon hour going over other aspects but who has the time for all of that, what with a life to get on with! You covered the most pertinent points and it certainly gave me much to think about when making a choice between these phones. Thank you again.

  • the n8 has a settings to prevent it it from rotating

  • My N8 Is Like Your SGS2 Plus The iPhone.
