  • AMAZING!

  • Whoever disliked this is sitting in darkness right now.

  • #1

  • GREAT TUNE...........NICE RIFF!

  • I love this period of KISS - The Elder - best album ever !!

  • A great song,

    from a great album

  • i remember when this came on i was in the 4th grade and me and my friends were so excited. now that im older i listen to the elder a lot its more a grown up album lol. awesome song

  • @kuriaki71

That's true - that is what was wrong with it - A lot of the fans were just too young to get it. I was around 13 when it came out, and it wasn't until I listened to it a few years ago and I was floored at how great of an album it really is. I mean, lyrically, with "The Oath" and "Just A Boy", they were treading into Ronnie James Dio territory in many ways.

  • The best Ace´s Clothes!

  • Thanks for the footage, The Elder is the best progessive metal recordings ever, in a league with Queensryche's Operation Mindcrime and Dream Theatre's Metropolis

  • The Elder is one of the best progressive metal albums ever. In league Queensryche's Operationa Mindcrime, Dream Theatre's Metropolis etc

  • I liked how Paul said he'd look liked the evil version of Simon Le Bon of Duran Duran

  • There's a song about Friday!

  • ACES SOLO KICKS ASS

  • @onceonlyaz fucking right, his sound on here is jaw dropping, this is the best version of kiss by far

  • A melhor banda do mundo!!!

  • The Elder gets such a bad rap...This is great stuff...they should have gone on the road, playing small places...kinda surprising that Gene and Paul have next to apologized for it over the years...it has great tunes on it, bring Ace and Ezrin back. That would be a trip.

  • Paul looks like someone from an evil version of Duran Duran.

  • Throughout the years I have always noticed that every time that Stanley has trouble hitting a note he will look down at his guitar. Just watch...he does it.

  • KISS should've consulted the elder more times than they did.

  • I love the jabs they were taking...like being "Ralph and Millie's favorite band!" They were getting no respect, while trying sooo hard to get it.

  • I love Ace's costume. Song is pretty cool, love Eric Carr.

  • I love MUSIC FROM THE ELDER!

  • This is too cool! I love to see some of the more obscure Kiss classics performed live! Always liked this song, so awesome to see a performance of it. Thx

  • When ACE, heard it for the first time, he smashed the tape against the wall. Reason: His solos, were cut out. Overall: Bob Ezrin, was a complete dick to Ace.

  • Great song

  • Probably the only good song to come off of The Elder

  • @TallonIV776V Nope, Under the rose, and A world without heros are classic KISS tracks that never got the recognition they deserved.

  • i remember watching this! kiss rules!! nuff-said!

  • kiss at their peek.

  • This is such an underrated klassic. I've always viewed Eric as the heir to the stool, and this is proof as to why he will always be the Fox. Singer and Thayer really REALLY need to find their own personal character. It's such an embarrassment to see them parading as Ace and Peter. Eric did. Vinnie did. Why not these two? I know $immon$ needs more money to burn, but jesus. If they give Peter and Ace their 25% cut, fair, then they'll make more than they have so far with the two impostors!

  • I agree with throatgorge2. There is no doubt that Ace's solo here was cut from the album. I wish KISS would release a deluxe edition of this album in 2011 for the Elder's 30th anniversary with the original tracks (w/ Ace's solo's) as a bonus disc.

    Shame it will never happen...

  • It's a damn shame this line up didn't record together (unless you count Dark Light, but Escape from the Island was Ace, Eric with Bob Ezrin on base). Luckily there's some live footage like this around.

  • I have never heard this song live til now, and it sure did rock my soul and I Love the Band. All of you who are fans, You all are Awesome.

  • horrrible horrible solo effort by ace

  • @hirskdubbi you sucks!

  • Paul Can't hit the notes on the Chorus, and Ik this song is horrible to sing. But gene is singing higher then paul lol thats funny. Great job by ace N Eric

  • Ace's solo is massive... and Erics drumming as well!

  • a true kiss fan in tasmania, australia is the one and only damian hind. the biggest kiss fan in hobart. fly down people and check it out. the beer is great too

  • Ace's solo is fantastic. When I listen to the studio version I realize this is one of the solos Ezrin cut out! You hear only the opening measures of it on the studio version! Wow, I'd have quit the band too. Also that is Ace's coolest stage outfit ever and him and Eric Carr are the only ones whose hair looks GOOD. Ace will always make my jaw drop, to be such and outstanding musician among such brilliant musicians is a hell of an accomplishment. He's awesome...

  • @throatgorge2 no 1977 love gun is aces coolest outfit

  • @throatgorge2 im going to have to disagree on stage outfit love gun tour had to be the best ones

  • @onceonlyaz yeah but I'm a punk rocker, so the understated leather with the lightening bolt really speaks to me.

  • @throatgorge2 oh i see

  • @throatgorge2 no ace's dynasty album is much better

  • They should do some of the elder. Eric and Tommy can play the whole album...but Gene and Paul? I think they see it as it did not sell as much so why should we play it. But it has some of the best musicianship ever from Kiss.

  • i agree..the elder is the only album that has truly aged well..they should do a follow up album for the true fans

  • I last saw KISS in 2004 and what made that tour so good was that they actually dove into their catalog a bit. Yes "Kiss Alive!" is a classic and yes it should be featured as the definitive party live album and I am sick of death of nearly every song on it because that's all they seem to want to play live. If they would bring songs like this back or "Heart of Chrome" from an album which they all say is among their best, then maybe they will earn my hard earned money and I'll see them again.

  • MAN ERIC CARR was a DRUMMER and a HALF ,he gave KISS that double bass metallic attack ,he was so technical ,he hits everything .AWESOME drummer one of the BEST!!!REST IN PEACE BROTHER OF METALXXXOOO

  • @madometal nice comment bro,, i played as eric in a kiss tribute band,, he was and still is my hero

  • @twostix67 Dude anything thats classic stuff, memorable & still gives you tingles whenever you hear it such as early KISS among others,as a true metalhead that I am all my COMPLIMENTS come from the bottom of my heart.CAN"T help but show respect, all the best on your KISS tribute band.KEEP WELL,CHEERZZZ!!!!

  • Man this song is so fucking heavy, one of their heavier tracks,LUV theriff very gallopy,It's an early version of a thrash RIFF& at the same time very very melodic so the first time you hear it just grabs& doesn't let go.This live version is outta this WORLD,the solos are longer than that of the album,FUCK wish they kept the shredding at this duration on the album. The elder is such a unique album from start to finish even the instrumental 'escape from the island',awesome STUFF!!METAL PIONEERZ!!!

  • Great song !!!

  • They should blow all the fans minds on this upcoming tour and with no intro from Paul, just break out into the opening riff and play this live!!!!

  • dude, that would be awesome. Why KISS does not play Elder music is beyond me - since there are many Elder fans in the audience.

  • I loved The Elder..this footage in in the second Kissology, one of the few really high quality clips on the DVD..

  • i think that this is the only REAL live footage of this song thanks for uploading

  • Um dos melhores albuns do Kiss, no en

tanto eles não gostam do The Elder!, essa música é ótima.

  • The Elder is like an orgasm. It is a great masterpiece and one of the best Kiss albums than fans usually don´t like. I love "Only you", "Under the rose", "I", and "The odyssey". Fantastic job!! We will never forget the "hidden albums". From Spain, I kick lots of asses in the name of KISS.

  • I must agree with you! I don't know why even Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley themselves still today say "The Elder" was their worst musical mistake. This album was different, magical... "Just a Boy", "Odyssey", "I", "The Oath" , "Escape from the Island", and "Under the Rose", my favorites. The only mistake (if any) was not to put their awesome makeup-on faces on the record cover.

  • I don't know what reasons Gene and Paul have for dismissing this album. Really. Do they prefer HITS, Dynasty, Unmasked, Psycho Circus?!?!?!?! Yeah, you could call this the worst album Bob Ezrin produced for them, but you're not always going to get a Revenge or Destroyer. Cmon Guys one more album with Bobby! Please!!!!!!!!!!

  • so true it hurts !

  • After shooting this Fridays clip, Ace told Gene and Paul that they should write better matrial.

  • haha, i'd have to say i agree with Ace on that one.

  • Not their best effort at all !!!...And the Olivia Newton-John hairdo's.??...Eeeesh

  • ...KISS. This was a great era. A hint of their early hard rock years....love gun, dynasty and unmasked is all pop..."The Elder', was back to the guitar sound...raw!

  • Love Gun Kicked Ass and Love Gun is 100 times better then "The Elder"

  • ..ok...I agree...I went back at listened to LOVE GUN...and yeah...it does kick ass...cheers for the heads up.

  • ..and you must agree...ERIC CARR....was soooo good and to me, one of the greatest drummers.

  • i agree i love eric carr. in matter of fact i live in the same town where eric grew up and his parents still live in the same town and i met them twice. very nice people they are

  • I love KISS and always have, but this is a drag show!

  • What's hilarious is the fact that Paul Stanley is singing all these "serious" lyrics about swords, destiny and power, and he keeps doing all his signature moves with his hips and hands. It just doesn't fit like it does with Strutter or Love Gun.

And is that John Tesh at the end?

  • Right at the beginning with that chic announcing KISS look in the background a bunch of old people like my grandma and grandpa LOL

  • falsetto singing + purple headband = the death of kiss

  • This kick Ass, Ace Frehley !

  • the solo isn't the elder style! its ace style! and thats the best style!

  • Ace..,the king for the last time, live for kiss ! Fockin` great solo Ace! :) Peace

  • Forgot about this song, A hidden gem for sure

  • i wish that they were play this song on the future kiss concerts its fantastic (sorry about my english)

  • This is my favourite song ever by KISS. And this my friend - is excellent quality for this footage and sound! It so rocks!!!

  • Great quality!

  • Ace was on his way out at this point, so of course he didn't really "learn" the solo or any of the material from The Elder.

  • 2:34 Ace's solo was so bad it's almost embarassing! I remember back in '82 being so stoked that KISS was gonna be on Fridays! The Oath started out so strong and bombastic, I was expecting a strong solo from Ace..and he absolutely SUCKED! He sounded like some beginner kid at the guitar shop..Daddy's buyin' him his first guitar for Christmas. UGH! JFYI, on the album it's Paul playing the fills.

  • Dude - Ace kicks total ass in this song. If it weren't for him this soong wouldn't jam the way it does.

  • @matzohgoy - As much as we all hate to admit it, by this stage, Ace had given up being in KISS and was just doing a rote job, copycatting HIMSELF. He was given space to solo purely to establish KISS were back as "hard rockers". You can see he didn't wanna. And yes, Paul did the fills on ELDER's Oath.

  • I saw this Friday's episode. There was a "Rubik's Cube" game show skit, in which celebrities were placed in each of cube's squares. KISS was in top left corner. After a contestant answered a question right, they took a twist on a small rubik's cube that would then twist the huge celebrities' cube. KISS fell from about 25 ft when the cube twisted. It was very funny. All members were good sports in participating and making fun of themselves.

  • i think this is a really gd song by kiss an i really like ace'scostume

  • I'm a kissfan for years and now I see this video, I notice that they do'nt wear their platform boots.I gues that the guitarsolo on the album is done by another guitarplayer.

Ace is playin'something completely different in this video.

  • I'm butt-naked in my bathtub listening to this, got my laptop right here

  • LMAO!! hahahahaha...

  • I may be in the minority, but "The Elder" is my favorite album.

  • you are not in the minority!

  • What bass is Gene using?

  • He's using a custom designed by him and made by Frank Petrucci at Gibson. He had four of them made.

  • you woundn't know by this video that ace was unhappy about the album looks like he was having fun.

  • yeah, i know. listen to those solos, too-- anything soft about the song was wiped away by those. :)

  • It was a really good progressive rock album, something Rush would do, but its not Kiss style

  • At 00:55 sec.'s FUCK GENE'S HEAD. 02:28 Get out of Ace's way Gene. 03:30 could a stage please push Gene down on his face:( 04:04 That's it I'm killing Gene! SCHMUCK!!!!!

  • whats wrong with u dude?

  • Awe Gene, Gene, Gene... Stop the tongue bullshit. He's is the reason I've never got into KISS for years until lately. Lyrically this album is a work of art. I just sorry that Ace was shunned on the Destroyer album by the Producer, and then by the same Producer for this album. Ace disagreed with the bands directional turn, and this Produce removed some of Ace's solo's on both albums. Now if Ace wears his make up, he'll get sued by Gene, and Paul.

  • Ace (& Peter) each got 25% of the albums income wether they played on the album or not

  • but Eric and Bruce

    the albums with they

is too the power of Kiss in their years

is the same with Ace and Peter

    in the first years

    but Eric is more

  • i really actually like this song

  • Eric Carr's debeut with KISS R.I.P. Eric

  • Eric Carr's debut with KISS was at the Palladium in NYC in 1980. This is 1981.

  • Okay..geez..I meant Eric's RECORDING debeut!!

  • this is from 82 eric first appearence was in about 79

  • Amen to that!! Regardless of where his debut was - RIP to one of the most under rated drummers in Rock history!

  • I LOVE this song, especially this particular video, you can hear each instrument clearly and each member of the band shines independently.

  • Best costumes of all era's!

  • GOOD SONG

  • i heard that blackie lawless was in the audience at the performance

  • Great tune, very metal. The verse riff could have King Diamond singing over it.

  • this is the kind of song your children will never hear. not because they were born after the KISS phenomenon, but because it's simply a really, really poorly written song.

  • Actually, they lyrics are absolutely outstanding. Very, very well written. It was the ALBUM itself that was misguided. People wanted to KISS to rock, not become philosopher-poets. But give credit where it's due. Lyrically, the song is fantastic.

  • Boy, KISS really rocks on The Oath. I will always feel that Elder will be treated as a throwaway, but now, if you listen to it today, it's really a good album. I feel it was just ahead of its time.

  • Someone should show this clip to Paul & Gene.

The song translates better live than I thought it would.

And I think they could do more with it as well.

Everyone wants them to play it live.

Hell everyone wants them to play anything live that isn't the staple 20 odd songs they play.....

  • esta rola es delo rescatable de ese disco llamado musicfrom the elder q la neta no es malo aunque si raro para ser kiss

  • I love watching this very special moment in their carrer!

I mean Ace was pretty much off already in a sence, and here they are playing every note LIVE !!!

This must be one of the very last 100% live clips with Ace from the first outing !?!

And allthough i've always said i was a Kiss fan IN my youth, seing things like these makes me wanna change my mind and replace IN with ever SINCE !!! :)) allthough i'm only 24.

  • this is the way what hard rock would be play¡¡ kiss the best heavy rock band in the history¡¡¡ greetings from argentina

  • An amazing song from an even more amazing album. The members of KISS themselves dismiss the LP as a mistake, but it's essential, and stands as one of their very best.

  • great thanx for posting!raw, heavy, live, rare!and a great record ace has great tone but as usual he seems loaded ha ha hes awsome.thanx again

  • best kiss track ever!!!!!! the oath forever!!!

    GOD Bless our Troops!!!

  • great track - got the vinyl today from my flatmate for kissmas :D

the sack trick version is slightly better methinks :P
