youtube really needs to work on making video's run on the "GPU" instead of "Part on the GPU" the other on the "CPU" my P III is normally fast but due to youtube adding more shit that's "CPU" based my computer glitches and bogs when I watch some video's. =o=
@nooblet911 9700 was THE best GPU/VPU (see, 3dfx not included.) ever released. period. it kept strong on the top tier for a good 3 years, and it could still run most stuff decently for 2 more years after that.
@GraveUypo While I agree with that it was an AMAZING gpu...I have to give the best to the nvidia G80 and revised G92. The 8800gt/9800gt was probably the most common graphics upgrade for gamers, ran stuff amazingly well and gave us stout DX10 performance and is still plenty strong to run most games.
And of course all the capabilities of offloading stuff to it with CUDA.
Technology is awesome. What GPU is going to be like these two fine examples next?
@94XJ yea, g80/92 was pretty good (i still use a 8800GT :P ), but i think it grabs the second place at best.
it has a pretty high failure rate (mine's the only one left alive out all the g80/92 me and my friends have) and wasn't really alone (HD4xxx was also pretty good)
but the 8800GT hit the sweet spot for this generation - twice as fast as the GPUs on consoles, and as such, it could run most games in this generation smoothly. it's going to handle stuff decently until we see the next xbox.
You know...the biggest problem with the g80/g92s was microcracks in the solder. Some time in an oven and they'll be revived.
