I remember watching when it first came out in theatres. I was 57 years old, and it was just so maaagical when you found out that little green dude is Yoda and you hear Obi Ones voice saying "So was I when you taught me" as that smoothing music sets in the back ground. So amazing, so maaaagical, and it seemed like a mystery to me, such an amazing maaagical feeling. Then the GODDAM prequels came out and ruined EVERYTHING! Worst than the holocaust!!
The two best sequels of all time The Godfather part 2 and the Empire Strikes Back and I think they are both better than the original. How often does that happen?
@MrBuc128 The Wrath of Khan, The Dark Knight, Ben Hur (sort of a sequel to the Ten Commandments), The Good The Bad and The Ugly, and Ocean's Thirteen.
I can remember seeing this particular trailer when I was nine years old almost as vividly as I remember what I did yesterday. Back when when practically every Saturday afternoon involved sitting in the movie theater with a box of popcorn and drink and being almost as excited about the previews they showed as the movie itself. Those were good days.
My family was super poor when I was a kid. So I didn't get to see "Star Wars" until 1985. So I actually saw the original trilogy in this order: Empire first (special re-release before ROTJ in 83), then Jedi on opening day 83, and then Star Wars finally on cable in 85.
Empire is still the best of the bunch. Prequels don't even register as Star Wars movies to me.
This is how I remember the movie...all grainy, scratchy, saturated reds, and very dark. Ah cable back then was very low in quality. But most of all, I remember being so happy to watch these great movies. At the movies or home. Hollywood just doesn't make them like these anymore.
@RogueRotting360 Oh your so right when you say GRIT...That's what the roles then had GRIT. In the original three. The new ones had nothing like that. Lucas, must of gone soft, really soft when he came back to the story. Too much good life I guess, that he forgot storyline, true characters telling for the audience to learn to like and care for. I felt nothing for the new stories. I like them to be real. Not what we got. Cartoons.
The Empire Strikes Back was the first Star Wars movie I ever saw ... my Dad rented it ... and I did't want to watch it the cover looked weird ( The Empire Strikes Back poster art was almost scary but so beautifully) the next day I stayed home from school and watched it (nothing was ever on t.v back in the day) and I fell love ... mind you this was b4 the 97 Re-release so Star Wars was a gen step off 4 me I was born in 84 so Jedi was 83 so missed it but I still love this movie
I've been looking for this trailer for years! I saw this in December 1979 at the Odeon Leicester Square before Disney's, The Black Hole! I remember it blowing my mind and at the time not remembering anything about the film I was there to see. I was wondering if I had imagined it as I've never seen it in any extras on laserdisc or DVD. One thing I am questioning is the voice over, I am sure the one I saw had no voice, just the music/fx! Still, great to see it again after 30 years!
I agree, I can't remember where I first saw it but I've never seen it since and it's always but it's always been impribted on my memory. Funny thing is it still gives me goose bumps. I also remember it without a voice over...where did you get it, treksf?
Single handidly the greatest form of media that was ever created by mankind.

@davidjamessheets Yes I have to agree with you on all of those. But generally speaking it is rare that a sequel is bettter than the original

One of the GREATEST Sequels ever made. Nothing in the Star Wars saga has come close it in terms of dramatic tension and fantastic character moments.

What season is this song?
StarWarsFan786 1 year ago
@StarWarsFan786 Winter (modulated up a half-tone). This was back when Lucas still wanted to project his movies as 'dramatic'.
Man, how everything changed after '80. I blame Linda Ronstadt. ;)

@chotzrary I actually liked it all grainy, scratchy, saturated reds, and very dark. It gave the film even more character and grit.
