The "red" belt wasn't a rank belt- it was marking the sides so the judges could score the match. If you'll look closer, you'll see both fighters were yellow belts.
This is not for kids! Kids shouldn't be doing this. Parents shouldn't permit their kids to do this. However, I respect all Kyokushin Adult competitors...but this is just not for kids!
So why do you think kids should not do this? So far it has been a really good experience for my kid, and several of his friends. It's not like kids are being carted away on stretchers after every match; but just like in most active sports, if you have a day long competition with 300 kids, a few of them are going to get hurt.
@samurai1882 Im of a differnet opinion. Kids should definitely do this, it shapes their characters as they learn discipline, courage and skills to defend themselves in a real situation. besides that it really makes fun, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, a lesson everyone learns in life. besides that, the pain isnt that huge.
There is no punching to the head, because kyokushin tournament rules don't allow punching to the head. They wear helmets because they are kids, and kicks and knees to the head are allowed.
In Kyokushin you DON'T punch the head. Because in adult rules they have no fist protection. And it's a bit weird to learn the kids to do so, just because they have fist protection, and say later on: You can't do that!
I have seen the HL. Very nice. Actually met Narushima last year at a kids' training day that kyokushin kaikan had in Tokyo last year. The little brats got to work out with and meet a lot of famous kyokushin guys like Narushima (who broke some baseball bats), Filho, Feitosa, etc. Narushima is a surprisingly small guy; packs quite a wallop though.
I don't know about that... It might not be right for everyone, but it has been quite a good thing for my little brat and some of his little friends so far. As for this tournament, there were probably no more injuries than you would have at your average all-day soccer tournament with a couple hundred kids.
This is much better than football or soccer or basketball. I can bet there is less injuries and the kids have real self confidence.
