My dad had one of these. I always remembered the grill looking like the car was smiling. Can't remember much else about it.
As to the Slant 6, that was an indestructible engine. I drove a pickup that had one and it seemed like it had more low end torque than a straight 6. Very reliable and easy to keep running for man miles.
@2008ljr The 1960 and 61 Darts were the equilavent of the full size Plymouths.Dodge offered no Valiant copy until 61-62 and that was Lancer. Then 63-76 was Dart.
@2008ljr It was. The first Dodge Darts were full-sized cars. The Dart was not lowered to compact-car size until 1963. It was introduced because, Dodge dealers , who used to also sell Plymouth, lost their Plymouth franchises because Chrysler wanted to give Plymouth it's own stand-alone dealerships. This left Dodge dealers with no low-priced car to sell (Dodge was a more expensive medium-priced make). So, the Dart took the Plymouth's place in Dodge dealerships.
I owned a 1960 Dodge Dart Seneca from 1981 until 1992. It was a two door with a slant six. I lowered it with lowering blocks, put on fender skirts and wide whitewalls, and completely redid the interior. It had 3 on the tree. It was actually featured in a CLASSIC AND CUSTOM car mag in the late '80s. I paid $400 for it from my mother, who got it when my grandad died, It was a real head turner and people loved to see it. I used it was a daily driver. Man, I miss that car.
@Bassman4950 My parents had a white one back in the 60's. It had push buttons for the transmission on the left side of the dash. It wasn't the top of the line.
@rcnotes If you look at what other cars were getting for mileage back then, almost 25 mpg on the highway is incredible. Especially if you look at the car weighing in at 3400 lbs.
A Dodge Dart was a damn good car. That was one serious Chrysler.

A slant six in that big car? I bet you could outrun it on foot for the first 20 feet.

Dodge, along with Chrysler and Plymouth, later became longtime sponsors of NBC Sports.

I thought the Valiant was much smaller in 1960. This car looks full size.

I always that was one of the most beautiful cars ever built. My Dad had purchased a 1959 Pontiac, but, I preferred the Dodge Dart.

If it was in Hawaii, it was probably already starting to rust.....
Nice looking car, though, I wish there were still a few of them out there to be seen.

Economy car? Only because it was in "the low priced field"?
rcnotes 1 year ago
@rcnotes - Yes it was an economy car for that era. With the new for 1960 slant six it got 24.74 MPG on a 2061 mileage run sponsored by Mobil.
