  • Why don't you save yourself a lot of trouble kid, and buy a few bottles of Nail Hardener from a dollar store. It is nitrocellulose and solvents, without the white pigment. Works perfectly well as a guitar finish patch.

  • instead of cutting all the ping pong balls, put them in a blender.

  • I'm not a chemist, but I do know that nitro- cellulose is explosive. It has 4 times explosive power of gunpowder. After time it turnes to a powder or goo that can spontaneously combust. The mixture produces its own oxygen so inferno that ensues can not be extinguished by water or indeed can't be extinguished at all. Magicians use 'flashpaper' in their acts, bright flash in usually a hat or similar to create very bright flash and lots of smoke. Explosive experts use it in mines. DANGEROUS STUFF

  • It's called "ace-tone" because it produces great tone when you slather it all over your guitar. Will really fuck up your finish, but hey, it's worth it, ain't it? (*rim shot*)

I saved a lot of labor cutting up my ping-pong balls by buying a wood chipper to do the job. Cost me $20,000, but it's a great time saver. (*rim shot*)

  • Can this make visco fuse waterproof

  • Pingpong balls are NC but not fully nitrated.

    I made some myself, watch?v=oq8AuWrVJVI

  • This will go on a guitar and dry clear right

  • ASS-E-TONE

  • its not ace tone its acetone. learn how to read

  • Wow, that video could have been 15 seconds instead of 5 minutes.

  • Comment removed

  • can we use it for guitar finishing???

  • thejudgeconvertible: Learn how to spell and write on a second grade level before you criticize others!

  • Hey great FUCK,N video after you spend ten years collecting and cutting ping pong balls you might have enough to paint your car and of coarse its guarenteed to last or maybe spend that ten years working and just buy a gallon of lacquer. What a waste of 5 minutes now go reinvent the Fuck,n wheel next collage boy

  • It's cellulose lacquer, without the Nitro........ Do the same thing and add smokeless powder, then you got nitrocellulose lacquer. ;)

  • @Xprez308 No, it is cellulose dinitrate, hence, nitrocellulose. Smokeless is cellulose trinitrate.

  • @Xprez308

yeah but smokeless powder is not 100% nitrocellulose. I think like the most common ratio is actually a 1/1 with nitroglycerin and nitrocellulose. but you're basically right i guess

  • @TheAclark109 you are reading the back of too many hilti cartridges, or bullet packets, as smokeless powder is almost all nitrocellulose, the nitroglycerine part is the contact explosive, or initiation charge at the back of the bullet or cartridge where the pin strikes. this sets off the nitrocellulose which is not sensitive enough to explode by striking it with the pin in a gun ect ect.

  • a lot of retards out there!

  • if you get the 20 ball pack just step on them then throw them all into a blender its how i do it

  • so once i make this i wrap cotton string around black match fuse and coat it with this to make like visco/cannon/safety fuse and its water proof

  • How many acetone for each ball?

  • @ruskie20 30mL for each ball. Or 2 tablespoons for each ball.

  • @raptorrochester It has to be 100% right?

  • Be sure to keep hydrogen peroxide away from this, or you will have yourself a contact explosive.

  • add TNT and u have C-4 LOL

  • @chilidress C-4 has neither TNT or nitrocellulose in its composition.

  • I fucking hate those lids, but can't believe virtually all north american jams uses it.

  • so if I were to soak paper, or string in it, then let them dry, could they make fuses? and how fast?

  • @MrZakkD

    no its used for waterproofing

  • just make a hole in the pingpong ball, it melts anyway,

  • acetone = ass-ah-tone

  • I need help. I tried this and when i lit mine it was like napalm

  • does it dry after a long time?

  • You shouldn't leave your spoon on the table you'll wreck it

  • good video, but acetone is prounounced "ass-it-tone"

  • but why ping pong balls and not cotton ????

  • will this dry clear?

  • is tht wat they use to prime fuses with because i saw in a vid a paint looking thing being put on the fuse and then they put bp on it and i didnt no wat it was

  • what can you do with it? can you make flash paper wtih that?

  • Your acetone vapor is going to start to chew up the rubber seal on the jar after a while.

  • what can do with this?

  • PUT IT ON WOOD

  • it just burns??

  • Lacquer is something you put on something to make it shinny and it also protects the actual surface of what you apply it to by creating a new surface of Lacquer (that's shinny).

  • @jbbj13

your not meant to set it on fire...

  • @InfinitelyCool PUT IT ON WOOD GET GREAT TONE

  • what CAN'T you do with it?!

i use it to coat my homemade visco fuse to make it waterproof.

    it's basically a REALLY flammable glue/sealant.

  • Chemical for a purpose, not a purpose for a chemical.

  • @jbbj13 lite it

  • Use it in the never ending fight against the tyrannical U.S and U.K governments.

  • i no ping pong ball are made out of nitrocellulose right so if u disolve a 100 of them in acotone then let it evaparate so u get a solid chunk of ping pong ball nitro cellulose could it be used as a high explosive with a detonator...i no it works with pure nitrocellulose but ping pong balls aint pure are they....i would just try it myself but im not into brakeing the law nower dayz.....normal good old Nitrocellulose Lacquer must have something in it so it isnt an explosive when dryed out

  • thing is... the laquer dries, which means the acetone fleets out of the laque and leaves a plastic coating.

  • @1ukjunglednbraver

nitrocellulose is not a high explosive. it is a low explosive.

  • @vevenaneathna its both depending on how its ingnited...when compressed and confined n set of with a detonator its acts as a high explosive when on unconfined in the open air lit with a flame its is a low explosive

  • perfect fuses for fireworks

  • you can get acetone just about anywhere, even Wal Mart. They do card minors usually, afraid you will huff or blow something up.

It is pronounced ass-a-tone by the way, not ace-tone.

    Cool vid!

  • wouldn't it be easier to just put the ball in a blender? seriously. save yourself some time. lol

  • enit , i was thinking exactly the same.

  • hmmmm ping pong balls in a blender:)

  • you can buy acetone from menards. it is used as paint thinner.

  • Why can't you just buy it?

  • very nice video.

  • What is the outcome of the Nitrocellulose Lacquer being lit?

  • my question is how i can make a fuse with da NC lacquer?

  • what is the purpose for nitro-cellulose laquer?

  • Applying to furniture or musical instruments. Its preferred for antique pieces for its warm appearance and its a better finish for musical instruments because it allows the wood to resonate much better then polys.

  • i thought it was for pyrotechnic use? like making fuses waterproof, but still thanx

  • Nitrocellulose is used for several things, such as making ping pong balls, but nitrocellulose lacquer is used for the reasons mentioned.

  • but it says in the title, used for e-match which is fuse - pyrotechnics

  • lol your watching how to make it but not know what you can use it for lol

  • can you just blend the ping pong balls in a blender?

  • I guess you could but i wouldn't blend it too long because it will become dust and you don't want that to breathe in or whatever. However i'm not sure if it could ignite by the rotating blades... maybe when it becomes dust, then yeah but i'm not sure.

  • alright folks, this IS NOT nitrocellulose lacquer. this is just cellulose. it will dry white, just like the ball. basically you're just dissolving the cellulose in an organic solvent. DO NOT go and coat your guitar with this or you'll be hitting yourself when it drys

  • thanks....better to get some from luthiers supply...i hear you can get colroes to add to it, if you are trying to amtch other areas on a vintage, yellowed guitar. I plan on using a brush or whatever on some small areas that are missing the coating...but notice that the word there on my Harmony 62 (fifties )is darker.from fingers. I should sand it to blend into the better areas..then brush on stained cellulose that I've tested on other light wood to see color match. Keep cellulose off of binding!

  • @thewellpreparedguy Yup,this is nitrocellulose lacquer. We are not going to use it for guitar or other things,we will use it for making fuses for fireworks..

  • @thewellpreparedguy

It may not be 100% pure, but ping pong balls are in fact made of nitrocellulose. Try lighting one on fire.

  • @thewellpreparedguy yes indeed lol where is the nitric acid it needs to be nitrated first right?

  • @thewellpreparedguy Cellulose doesn't dissolve in organic solvents. Nitrocellulose does.

  • @thewellpreparedguy RETARD GO KILL YOURSELF!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @thewellpreparedguy Yes it is! Cellulose doesn't even dissolve in acetone, but this stuff does. And it also burns very well and without residue.

  • @thewellpreparedguy Wrong buddy. Ping pong balls ARE nitrocellulose. And this mix is not for coating guitars.

  • @thewellpreparedguy this is nitrocellulose lacquer, pink pong balls are almost 100% NITROcellulose plus dyes to colour the ball. it will fuck up your guitar however due to the nasty white colour, but it is still nitro none the less.

  • @thewellpreparedguy Ping pong balls aren't cellulose.

  • 2:57 Acetone is volatile... That's the word you were looking for.

  • does the laqceur made from white ping pong balls dry clear? or white?

  • are all ping pong balls nitrocellulose?

  • Its some sort of reaction between the ping pong balls and the acetone. If you have to ask that question you should learn more about organic chemistry before doing this.

  • I am only 15 :( I have not taken Chemistry yet. I look forward to taking it though!

  • they contain a precursor to it, soluble in acetone

  • thanks!

  • all proper ping pong balls are made from gun cotton, so yeah. by proper i mean, anything thats not those little kid ones you might buy with a plastic bat or something.

  • No, they are not. They are a less nitrated version of guncotton called Celluloid, which is a plastic used in ping pong balls.

  • no. none of them are.

    they are all cellulose.

  • What does this stuff do?

  • I've gotta a couple of questions: Does this paste eventually form into a putty? Will it ever go bad or become useless over time?

  • can you use turpentine/ thinner or lighter fluid instead?

  • what kind of ping pong balls should i use? and what should be the chemical composition of the ping pong balls?..can i use toilet paper instead?

  • bydaway..can i use this to make gun cotton/flash paper?

  • How long would it take this to dry? As well, could cotton balls be added to make it explosive grade (as in gunpowder base)?

  • in a jar pingpong and acetone need fly?

  • test video xD how?this is NC LACQUER...not explosive

  • make a test video.. (:

  • sweet!!!!!!

  • is this good enough to make lacquer with? and if yes what can i use as color?

  • as in lacquer for guitars that is :)

  • No this lacquer is very flammable even when dry. That's why it's good for Pyro. But it's no good for pretty much anything else. I recommend buying a commercial Lacquer for your guitar.

  • okay, i just thought it could be fun to say that i had made it from scratch, but i don't want to burn my house down so i guess i better buy some commercial lacquer...

  • ....... is the camera on your head?!?!

  • lol "Ace - Tone" ??

    its ASS-ITOWN

  • fake

  • No, Very real. and a common practice among backyard Pyrotechnicians.

  • does it burn.. or wat does it o.O

  • Yes it burns even when dry. It's used to cover the heads of Electric Matches to make them waterproof but it's also very flammable so it doesn't effect the performance of the mach.

  • acetone peroxide = 50 ml acetone(CH3COCH3) + 300 ml H2O2(hidrogen peroxide) + 15 ml HCl in an ice bath :) 3 days in the freazer and filter the white cristals

  • Yeah but its the most unstable primary explosive in the whole world, so dont make AP if arent a chemist.

But if any of you amerture guys wanna make it, then do it in a smaller ratio. For your own safety :P

  • Mmm its instability is over rated. Heard all sorts of stories about it after i made some decided to try it out. Large quantities didn't seem to self-detonate for no apparent reason, and i had a batch of 1.4KG sitting in an open field for over a week before i eventually shot it.

I smashed a glass bottle with 2 grams in it several times, still didnt go off.

I'd still say Nitroglycerin is far more unstable.

  • can you just use nail polish remover since it does have acetone

  • yup but pure acetone is cheaper

  • what is the ping pong ball made of? cellulose?

  • Comment removed

  • what does it do?

  • so what? do u poor it on something and light it? is it smoky when u light it or firey

  • does it explode or what?

what do you do with it?

  • used in guitar finish;s

  • I've used cotten in place of ping pong balls, works as good or better. If you use gun cotten (soaked in nitro or model airplane gas - Ie: nitromethane) it becomes a "grade" of blasting gelatin. (don't do it).

  • is this toxic if you touch it with your bare fingers? and my nitrocelloluse is done and its some acetone left, does that matter or?

  • what is this exactly for? making plastic explosives?

  • Nope, the only thing you van with it, is to put on fire

  • i tried 2 make some but the ping pong balls turn to like a clump at the bottom of the jar and aren't like paint at all. what is wrong with it????

  • its not acetone then

  • dude by the way people are stealing ur idea!

  • this isnt explosive whatsoever anyway... it just burns quickly. Neither acetone or the cellulose in the ping pong balls contain nitrogen, therefore no nitrocellulose can be created. this is just cellulose dissolved in acetone. you would need nitric acid to convert this into nitrocellulose.

  • You have to use sulfuric acid and nitric acid to make nitrocellulose

  • What's the ratio?

  • 1 Ping Pong ball: 150 Mililiters of acetone.

  • 1 part nitric acid 2 parts sulfuric acid

  • you mean..ping pong balls is composed of nitric acid and acetone has sulfuric acid?

  • No, it was the ratio of the nitrationsolution. I dont know a shit about that ping pong thing. But i know all about real nitrocellulose :p

  • I'm not sure but...

    Cellulose=cotton

The "nitro" in nitrocellulose does not stand for "nitrogen", but for nitration.

    therefor, nitrocellulose=nitrated cotton.

A nitration is when when you add a "material" to a nitration acid(HNO3 and H2SO4).

When the acids are mixed and a material is added, a NO2 molecule from the nitration acid usually replace hydrogen atoms.

This molecule is unstable with fire and pressure (nitroglycerin).

Correct me if I'm wrong, since this is how I was tought.

  • yes, but nitration requires the hydrogen atoms to be replaced by NO2 or NO3, and since cellulose has the formula C6H10O5 and acetone is C3H6O, there is no nitrogen, so therefore this is just a cellulose laquer, NOT nitrocellulose.

  • true but, I think you just got a little confused.

I used nitrocellulose as an example. Don't know if i didn't make it clear enough, because I can't find my post. :(

  • Exactly! Finaly someone whos not complete retard :D

  • can u use it for nitrocellulose?

  • how would i make this into a grain like state, like sugar almost

  • Buy smokeless powder from your local sporting goods store. It comes in little grains like candy sprinkles. It's also more powerful than this stuff.

  • Excellent tutorial. Thanks. For finishing a guitar, for instance, how would you apply this? Can it be sprayed in an airbrush? How do you color it?

  • what can you do with the NCL can it be detonated as an explosive

  • You Want to be careful mate explosives can kill if used incorrectly if you are talking about a minor explosive like blackpowder your fine If your thinking of Make Nitroclycerin dont even try it the guy who invented ended up blowing up his whole house killing him and his family

  • You mean Alfred nobel ? He didn't invent Nitroglycerin, he just remade it after an Italian chemist who discovered it. Also only his workers and brother died that day in the factory and not him or his other family members. Nitroglycerin isn't as sensitive as people think, i have prepared it my self.

  • Also black powder isn't an explosive, it is known as a propellant or low explosive.

  • if you compress alot of smokeless black powder into a co2 tank... 2 things, 1 how woudl u detonate, and 2 how dangerous would it be, and what am i looking at

  • you'd have to seal the end very well, most likly your going to make a rocket...blackpowder dosent ignite fast enough to blow up a container that sturdy. Dont mess with this stuff if you can answer that question yourself.

  • "isn't an explosive" "low explosive"

    "isn't an explosive" "low explosive"

    that comment needs some work!!!!!

  • No it doesn't, it's a mistyping mistake.

  • I would have just squashed the balls with my hand and then cut them up....

  • so you can buy 100% acetone in a general store? great vid btw

  • Could you put the ball into a coffee grinder or blender to speed things up?

  • that would work even better

  • anyone know a good guitar stand that won't affect nitrocellulose lacquered guitars?

  • i didn't even know it damaged them

  • the rubber from some stands react with the lacquer and fades it

  • what do u do with Nitrocellulose Lacquer?

  • Lacquer stuff like guitars.

  • lmao

  • great video, just one question, does it have to be acetone or can it be any other alcohol like Isopropyl? cheers mate

  • No, because NC isn't soluble in alcohols. You can use ether, acetone, or better toluene or xylene.

  • i disolve my ping pong balls in metho (methylated spirits) its 95% ethenol and 5% methenol. it takes a few days though.

i usualy make mine with acetone butt when it starts to get thicker i add some metho and give it a good shake and it kakes it thin again pretty quickly

  • i am gonna make explosives!!!!

  • dude don't do that shit you might get killed

  • chill man, i am really concerned with safety... i just made my nitro lacquer, now, i have to do the tests...

for the time, this does not look a real good explosive but it burns rapidly...

AND I AINT A FUCKIN TERRORIST!!! lol

  • In ping pong balls there are chemicals slowing down the burning. So its not as god for explosives as pure NC. Have a great time blowing stuff up though!

  • Do you know how this stuff is detonated? Does it need any boosters? I know it's not that sensitive..

  • It is not very sensitive for any mechanical stress or disturbance. It will however burn with speed 6300m/s which is basically explosion. It will ignite on contact with sparks, heat or flame (230°C). You can detonate it by basic means (you just need spark). Oh and keep it away from +70C temperature!

  • the explositivity of nitrocellulose depends on the esterification level that is set after making it. Obviously a table tennis ball isn't going to made with the correct levels to be explosive. It still has the ability to decompose without oxygen though.

  • thanks mate for this video :-)

  • i put it on my ball mill for an hour,my jars fit right on :P works great but dont add any metal balls to it

  • Update: i made the burn test and it burns really slow i think it might make a good slow burning fuse.

  • I did this but my nail polish remover wasn't 100% acetone, so the mix didn't disolve right, i got 2 things, some nail polish remover, and some gel/napalm like substance. I make a video of the burn test and maybe mold the stuff in to a pen and make a fire cracker

  • do it

  • <
