If the earth clamp was on properly at the start he would have got a shock, i got the exact same welder (Australia version) and i wasnt wearing gloves when i put the stick in and it fairly booted me. DO NOT PURPOSLY DO THIS IT CAN AND SOMETIMES DOES KILL!!!!!!! IM SERIOUS

Get a 3/32 rod, bang the flux off, turn your amps way up and go to town. It's a very rough cut, but it works.
