  • i will occasionally play the soc cymbal strokes with just my left foot(like a quick open "Chick" ) its not as fun or as visually striking as the "correct" tabbed way but its efficient .

  • Thank you very much for the video.

I don't knew how to make a worthy cover of this fantastic intro.

You have made my drum-life much easier. It works to me.

    Greetings from Barcelona (Spain)

  • Well DONE! Demystified . Helps to see it

  • Nice video cheers

  • this is a fantastic video

  • thanks for this one!

    that fill is sick!

  • wow...you have very hairy hands...like me!

  • It's much easier to just use doubles on the snare in this, am I alone? Nice job though! Like it.

  • @scottp118 Actually, I find it quite difficult to play it that way. Without the accent it's easier but trying to accent the second note of each double (the third note of each triplet), to me, is quite a challenge.

  • @only1boneman I think this is the first vid I've seen that plays the opening like I do...I think it's the correct way too...it's how I learned to play

  • @only1boneman It's the accents that make it swing/groove. But it is more challenging. Good breakdown. Thanks for the vid.

  • @scottp118 That's a more efficient way of doing it, but in my opinion this way just looks cooler. It also stays true to the check pattern.

@only1boneman I like that you have your hi-hat clamped to a separate cymbal stand, it cracks me up when I see people whaling on their hi-hat while the hi-hat swings about. I also like that you're using the ebony heads, I use them myself.

  • I hope you post a real Texas Shuffle, i.e., the rest of the song. No one plays it right, not necessarily bad, but just never right. God bless that "lil old band from Texas."

  • Death Metal dude!!!! Thanks...

  • exactly, a great tutor..thanks, ;)

  • Fab, this is great. like having my tutor!!

8 year old drummer girl :oD

  • i need an answer... after the third and last hit on the hi-hat, is it 2 hits on the snare and three hits on the tom?

  • The entire fill is written out at 1:05

The answer to your question is yes.

  • oops didnt bother to read it. i see it now.

  • This is a fantastic breakdown, thanks man. Could you post a break down of the other fills throughout the rest of the song?

  • Speaking of old ZZ Top... "Heard it on the X" has a nice pattern too... a bit cooler than "La Grange" as well. Less expected.

Nice work man... good to see the old stuff played right!

  • Thanks for breaking down a fill that has stumped me for years. Much respect to Frank Beard.

  • THANK YOUUU finally someone :)

  • Ha well done

  • awesome breakdown on this, bone. you have an instructional gift

  • Hey Boneman, Great instructional video. Thanks for the help. It looks like you have a kit just like mine. Circa 1964 Blue Ludwigs with the supra-phonic snare?

  • They are Ludwigs (super classics - I think) and that is a supra-phonic snare but I bought them new sometime around 1990.

  • thanks alot this will help

  • yes ,all the drum parts and is he also doing a dbbl. beat with foot pedal

  • the intro which it sounds like a dbbl. hit on the bass. mostly all the drum parts.

    thanks

  • can you do parts to kashmir

  • Thanks For The Help, good jod

  • hey buddy, i think you can help me i got i proble, my snare drum sounds great i love its sound but when i hit the bass drum the snare drum trembles (actually what trembles is the tiny metal "thread" beneath) sorry man im not english speaker so i dont know how to name it but pleas help what can i do??

  • I've heard of using a piece of paper or even a tissue between the snares(metal thread) and the bottom head.

Try placing it closer to the rim rather than the center to avoid affecting the sound of the drum too much. I would assume you could use scotch tape to hold it in place.

That would be my last choice though. Have you tried just experimenting with the tension of the snares?

  • Dont worry about it - it happens. You don't hear it in a live situation with a band.

  • What I did is I took a tissue, flattened it, ripped that in half, and put each half at the ends of the wiring for the snare. Works like a charm.

  • AWESOME MAN! This helped me!

  • thanls

  • Is that your metrome ONE TWO THREE FOUR!?!?

  • No. I make my wife stand behind the camera and count to four over and over.

    It's a Boss DB-90.

  • HAUhuSHuahUSHuaHSUhauhsuhaua...

    Good idea! (the wife thing)

  • haha good stuff but creepy ass metronome

  • Keep going man especially the quad thing in La Grange... BBBBUT do some of his stuff off XXX and Mescalero, PLEASE! Kids think he is old school and he is but U know what a kick ass Beard is right now, smart and slick for the song always. That is one of his finest traits. He always plays double bass on every thing that calls for it. Real slick smooth parts U did a great JOB thank you

  • Great man!

I think it's the same idea before the guitar solo in the song "Shock Me" of Kiss. Or not?

    Keep teaching more good things!

    Thanks!

  • Great, very clear and helpful.

  • great job

  • hi can you show how to do the shuffle slow? thanks joe ferraro.
