The lava wasn't the only time he 'died'. In, I think it was, Sonic CD he got hit by Eggman's lazer and died while doing the Sonic dying pose. Kind of cute in a way.

Sorry to spoil it, but Shadow the Hedgehog WAS Sonic Heroes 2 in the alpha stages and the storyline is a followup. Just get the Gamecube Shadow the Hedgehog or XBOX version which had the best graphics.

Sonic Heroes can actually be played on the Wii, minus using the wii's unique features. Just insert the Gamecube version. But they could do something like they did with SA + SA2 (SADX + SA2B).
