  • is this guy autistic?

  • @RespectProcess No, His delivery is inspired by Louis Armstrong. And also drugs might be in play here.

  • so is everyone else

  • beeeeeoootiful man....just so steamy, had me by my throat. thank you for posting this. F***ing poetry high end.

  • This is amazing he is so great way ahead of his time...... Not this is just some sorry shit.

  • wow this is fucking terrible... i head this on the radio today and literally had to go home and look up this song to see what motherfucker literally made me sit through this bullshit

  • @rapidpossumsex You obviosuly have no taste whatsoever

  • @rapidpossumsex so you hear something you hate, look it up on the internet and then go on bashing it? If you don't like it why the hell look it up?

  • @rapidpossumsex Then go listen to Beiber jackoff!

  • @GeneLattanzi umad faggot? why dont u listen to more untalented small-time bullshit artists so u can boost ur hipster rep around ur liberal arts college in NY fag

  • @rapidpossumsex You, my friend (and by that, I mean, we're not friends...thank God for small favors,) you are so delusional to think Tom is an "untalented, small time, bullshit artist." Further, I am not, nor have I ever been considered "a hipster." As far as my sexual persuasion is concerened, give me five minutes alone with your girl and I'll change your mind. In closing, good luck, God bless, fuck off. :)

  • @GeneLattanzi "omg thank GODDD im not friends with u!!"

    "GOD BLESS U"

im not interested in what ur god thinks u delusional hipster fag

  • @rapidpossumsex Chill,Satan, chill. Good dog.

  • @GeneLattanzi "OMG *insert biblical reference*"

    -Ignorant delusional christian hipster faggot

  • @rapidpossumsex Okay... the reason, I can't seem to plain old, just ignore you is, (wait for it...) YOU ARE FRIGGIN' HILARIOUS. Now, I don't know who or what music you prefer to listen to, and that's fine. Instead of calling me names or anyone else for that matter. Tell us who you like, so we can at least compare artistic merits. You seem to be here only to troll, so you get what you get. Are there such things as Christian hipster, faggots? Never heard of 'em.

    Oh yeah, go with God.

  • @GeneLattanzi youtube.com/watch?v=LUjn3RpkcKY

  • @rapidpossumsex Hm. Beiber. Typical. By the way, has it been 8 weeks?

  • @meekablaze I like!

  • watch?v=mi5E0qc1wUI&feature=related

  • i am SO jealous of his hair!

  • An unrecoginised literary genius.

  • his headstone is a gum-ball machine man !

  • ''No more chewing gum or baseball cards or overcoats or dreams

Someone's hosing down the sidewalk, and he's only in his teens, 'cause

'Cause Small Change got rained on with his own thirty-eight...''

  • I came across one of his songs in a mix a while back. I thought he was an old singer. Like, as in popular back in the 20s-50s or something. The style was so reminiscent of that time. To find out that he's still pumping stuff out gives me hope for music. Hallelujah!

  • aghh, cutout ending! (head explodes)

  • ....Anyone know who the sax man is?

  • @jettbugg Frank Vicari.

  • @ABisopht ....I think he died back in '06, I think. Too bad...

  • @jettbugg Not according to the internet. Or else he came back from the dead to accept his induction into the Hall of Fame.

  • i dont understand... just now, tom waits is being inducted in the rock hall of fame. he should have been inducted years ago.

  • @TheGent85 dont put stock in the rock n roll hall o fame. its kinda a joke.

  • @TheGent85 'Cause my friend , this ain't rock and roll. we're so lucky to be able to apply Tom Waits 1930"s veiw to our modern life. Tom only sings to the people who are listening. He's repeatedly refused to let his music be used in commercials, and has fought imitatioms of him used that way in court, and has won. Pure artist he is, but he also has a gorgeous voice , as in Grapefruit Moon.

  • this video is proof that smoking is cool

  • @harodirt77 Have fun dying cool then buddy.

  • when did Frank Zappa take up sax?

  • Good times for change

  • Tom Waits isnt as widely known as his talent deserves...but I reckon he wants it that way. Th eccentric recluse....he lives it liek he writes it. Heres my music, now get lost MTV im better than you!

  • 33355 does it seems something ? maby is the number of the nirvana !

  • not my bag at all... =/

  • OMG, the contra-bass and tenor saxophone! those two insturements are the only instruments i know how to play!

  • this is probably the first youtube video i ever watched. glad its still here. tom waits is probably my favorite living performer.

  • nothing goes better with tom waits than a saxophone

  • When Tom just growled over jazz backing like a beatnik, it made for great theatre but wasn't my idea of amazing music. Too much poetry. But he could do both this and write torch songs, which is what made him so incredible. To me, he never made a masterpiece album until Swordfishtrombones but he made a few that came close. And if anything, with this he proved himself the original white rapper (and he eventually did his own try at old guy hip-hop starting with Real Gone).

  • @journeythruthepast

Not to start some lame youtube argument...but if you don;'t think Small Change is a masterpiece of an album...well, I just don't know.

  • @sclogse1 Well I do like it and I'm a huge Waits fan. Just don't see it as a masterpiece, so that hardly makes me crazy! If you do, that's fine. But I can say it's probably his best 70s album. Top to bottom it's incredibly strong, namely side 1. Side 2 isn't as good IMO. "Tom Traubert's Blues" is probably my fave song Waits ever wrote.

  • @journeythruthepast I agree with you . Tom is primarily a theatrical performer and Small Cgange was is better seen rather than just heard. Even his interviews are choreographed performances. He is always performing. He has written and performed many other wonderful tunes that are easy on the ear.

  • been listining to tom since 1975. awesome,

  • this is the first video i ever watched on youtube

  • A brillant beat poet set to music! The man amazes me!

  • This video is why I continue to smoke.

  • small change got rained on with his own .38. ouch.

  • genius

    genius

    genius !!!

  • He is absolutely amazing !!!!! He makes real art ....wow ...such a great musician also , fantastic sense of humour , sense of preforming

  • Dudes a fucking genius

  • Brilliant - this guy can do no wrong! God Bless him.

    lol

  • the dreams aint broken down here,,,, nar

they is just walkin wid a limp ,,,

    poet !!!

  • Tom is a true genius and thank the lord that he exists for all of our sakes.Life sure would be worse without his music

  • Tom and I have a certanin life and voice. He says things that I only wish I could say with sobrity and a loud voice, but I cant... I feel like small change and wish someone would do it to me or I could do it myself. Love ya Tom!!!

  • In my book, the fact that Tom Waits is not widely recognized as one of the preeminent musical geniuses of his generation is a goddamn crime.

  • Well most musicians worth a shit not only know who he is but cover his stuff. The rest of people that don't know him...too bad for them.

  • Esse cara tá bebado ,kkkkkkkkkkk

  • he likes it that way.

  • Kind of like how your mom likes it that way?

  • He is known as and recognized as such. He's had his music played in more movies than any other artist to date.

  • @chesterdouglas It doesnt bother me. Not a lot of peeps know how great Beethoven is either.

  • @chesterdouglas well, i look at the bright side. if tom was as popular as michael jackson, he'd be dead now. there is such a thing as too much success. im glad that he can be free to be as ecclectic and freaky as he is. he makes a good living as an artist and we are blessed to be able to appreciate him while he is still around.

  • @chesterdouglas In my book, Tom Waits has been my favorite American poet for decades. Yes, the music is delicious, but even just reading his lyrics, he blows away the artsy crowd in a single turn of phrase.

  • @chesterdouglas tom waits genius not being recognised just shows you how stupid most people are. the guy couldnt make it any more obvious for chist sake. people arent really interested in proper art its all about names and labels and what they are told everyone else likes. at least we are on the ball mate. nice one

  • damned skippy!!!

  • @chesterdouglas Here, fucking, here.

  • @chesterdouglas

You recognize him. I recognize him. What more do you want? He's doing all right.

  • @chesterdouglas i think he is quite recognized as such, actually. just not among the "mainstream"..but who cares bout that anyway.

  • tom waits redeems america on a regular basis

  • @patrickcrogan This is so fucking true.

  • Aw, Tom knows the streets.

  • In the spirit of Jack Kerouac

  • Can you imagine if they could have made an album together?!

  • Tom Waits must get so much poon-tang. I've got one here for him, myself, and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

  • CLassic!!!! Unbelievably good!!!

  • what year was this performed? its looks too clear for 76..

  • amazing performance from mister waits.sends smile on my face.

  • So, we've got Small Change and Waltzing Mathilda from the Old Grey Whistle Test. Anything else? Would much enjoy...

  • Tom Trubart's blues

  • Yes, I know. Waltzing Mathida is just quicker to type.

  • but its longer

  • So far, no one has actually answered my question...

  • Tallent

  • Very original. Good storytelling

  • God Tom Waits is such a Badass!

  • Thank god this clip is back. Sends chills down my spine.
