  • After rebuilt the tranny noise come back. The reason is too much backlash in the 1st,2nd and 3td pinions. Nothing to do. Just added bardhal additive to reduce noise.

  • I had the same probleme with the same noise. A pinion of the cluster touch the pinion of the 3rd gear. Noise was low in third, high in 4th and very high in 5th. Play with the shims to correct the alignment. Good luck

  • Just got mine running today. Heard the same exact sound. It doesn't really do on mine when it's in neutral. I can hear it when the load transfers from the wheels to the engine and vise versa. It does it pretty bad when I start the engine and turn it off too. My tunnel is still cut too so I'm hoping when I cover it I wont be able to notice.

  • I have the same rattle in my tko 600, but mine does it when its in neutral. The rattle does go away when i put in the clutch, but i havent noticed it when its in gear. I just replaced my whole clutch setup thinking that would fix the problem, but it didnt. Did you ever find out what was wrong with yours?

  • 1/21/10 - the problem is that you need an extended pilot bushing, the tip of the shaft is not inserted all the way into the bushing. henceforth the horrible sound. your all welcome ; )

  • dude you have a cut away in the floor of course its going to be loud and noisy finish the your going to here the engine and road etc what do you expect with a hole in the floor

  • did you ever figure out what the noise was cuz i have the same thing only when i am in 2nd gear going down the road it never did it b4 till i changed my shifter

  • The noise is excessive backalsh in the gearbox in my opinion.

Everything else outside the gearbox has been replaced and or put to be within tremecs specs. The box has been rebuilt (just pulled apart, checked and put back together) by tremec and still makes the noise you hear. Ive tried 2 clutches, 2 different drive shaft lengths, different driveshaft angles, different pilot bearings etc. If yours only did it after changing your shifter, I would suggest changing back. I have the stock one.

  • if you sent it directly to tremec i highly doubt they took it apart, thier to big of a company to care about you (no offense) because they already got the money from you when you bought it.....your best bet is to send it to a local tranny shop and have them take a look at and make sure everything is within specs OR scrap it and get a diff. one

hopefully you get the problem fixed

    good luck!

  • @keeksta1 take it apart....shiiit they prolly wouldnt know what was wrong till its being spun or under load anyway

  • BTW, thegreatone182, I hope you're kidding.

  • Seriously man, you're blaming the box? I've checked out all your clips and came up with a couple things that perhaps you should address before badmouthing the product... 1) Like StangTV said, find your missing tunnel and put it back in. 2) Slip yokes work best when not sticking half way out. 3) Invest in an anglefinder. Your driveline angles are ******. 4) Is that your e-brake cable routed under the trans? 5) Know that even the best products can't overcome a poorly executed installation.

  • 1) The trans tunnel piece is irrelevant. Its noisy as hell with it in place with sound deadening.

    2) Bellhousing has been indexed below 5thou

    3) Driveline working angles have since been corrected are at 3 degrees, checked about 50 times with an anglefinder. No improvement

    4) Driveshaft yoke engagement is matched to tremecs spec - yes I have talked to their techs.

  • 2+ inches out is within spec? The driveline angles have "since been corrected"?

Man you can't thrash a part and then go back to install it the right way. Fixing the problem after the damage is done won't replace the missing teeth you now have on the gears or whatever you've got going on with that thing. Regardless I was just telling you what I saw. Sounds like it needs to be torn down either way. The good news is those boxes are supposed to be easy to rebuild. Good luck!

  • Mate there was about 8 other points, including a full pull down and inspection by tremec finding no issues internally, but youtube wont let me post that much.

There is a tonne of engagement as it is a long yoke (again, engagement depths for the shaft I have were specificed by tremec).

Even after correcting everything that has been suggested and then having it fully rebuilt, and they deemed everything "normal", its still making the noise.

  • I know a lot of guys run all sorts of bad configs (7+ deg drivelines etc) and dont have any problems. I just think I got one with a broad set of tollerances of bad lash in the gearset.

I've since given up and just accepted it as a noisy box. Nothing much else I can do.

Sucks when youve dropped several K and god knows how much time but thats life.

  • @hotwindsors Yeah right, you can't even get a drive shaft bolted in at 7 degrees.

  • Of course your transmission is noisy, you have no transmission tunnel.

  • sounds like your bellhouse bearing is shot

  • Did you buy the trans brand new? I bought mine brand new and have not had a single problem with it. Keep in mind that Keisler does open up the trans to install the offset shifters and who knows what else they do. I bought mine from Modern Driveline and they went out of there way to help me when they sent me the wrong clutch.

  • 75Squire - your response is irrelevant and looks like spam. Keisler has nothting to do with this stock tremec tko.

  • As you say, this has nothing to do with Keisler, this tremec was sourced brand new from elsewhere.

  • Yep brand new!

  • Dare I ask if you have been power shifting it? Power shifitng a Tremec is the kiss of death. If not that really sucks because these things cost a pretty penney. I hope this works out for you.

  • I have tried it with both a mcleod kevlar clutch and a OEM style organic clutch with insulated hub and got similar results (the organic clutch was a bit better).

    Which clutch would you suggest?

  • does this new clutch have OEM style Torsion vibration dampening springs??

  • sorry i thought u said the gearbox noise only started when u put in a new clutch. No its not the clutch.....obviously they didnt rebuild the gearbox properly.....thats why u have the noise!
