  • Burning man looks like such a mindfuck. If I go I will be sure to bring a bunch of acid with me :)

  • @MrJas1991 Be sure to time your peak with the Megavolt show, because what I found was that you can feel...in a really intense way, the static electricity in the air within 50 feet of that van. It is amazing.

  • this thing is coming back this year...

  • the point at which electricity is discharged into the air is usually around 100,000 - 300,000 volts, so those coils are likely somewhere in that range. Also, the principal is the skin principal, and when you shield yourself from electricity using a conductive metal, it's known as Faraday Caging. The charge stays on the outer few microns of metal and so they don't actually penetrate into the suit and electrocute the person.

  • where is Doc Mega Volt NOW! Need to you out and about love your performances!!!

  • Where is Doc Mega Volt Now?

  • it is alot more than 70,000 volts......probably 700,000 volts.and i know what im talking about.i have me 3 going on 4

  • voltage is very high, it is imposible that current is lower than 30 mA not to shocked.

  • But it will still cause cell damage through heat transfer.

  • I wonder if they'd ever be able to have children.

  • is there anyone know this principle, how can it be? ı found this video when searching michael faraday, do they use faraday cage? or are they ground themself

  • They're wearing metal suits and cages over their heads, which act as Faraday cages and conduct the electricity straight to ground rather than through their bodies. Also, as chrisaaslid said earlier, while the voltage is high, the amperage is low.

  • I saw another video with a close-up on the guys. It looked like a bird cage on their head, a platemail over their torso and using anti-shark ringmail on their limbs (or perhaps under that torso platemail also).

  • @kacin87 I believe its the skin effect of current, where the electricity will run across their conductive metal "skin", than through their physical bodies.

  • Although the voltage generated from a Tesla coil may be high, there's only a fraction of that value in amps. That's what kills you. A mere 100mA is plenty to stop your heart. Getting struck by an arc can apparently be compared to getting tased. This is cool nonetheless. Didn't see it at bm 2007.

  • Megavolt didn't make it to the Play in '07 unfortunately... rumor has it he had some kind of falling out with the Borg.

  • edit: Playa

    :+}

  • hehe

  • Those are not swords. they are flourecent light tubes getting lit from the charge. when you are standing there watching this you can feel the charge from 20 feet away. its awesome trust me.

  • what can I say... you guys got BALLS.

What would happen if you were not wearing those uniforms?

  • American are very crazy, also in scientific!!!

  • See the caption: 70,000 volts. Pretty gnarly.

  • Holy--! That is great!

  • Would be interesting how high the current is. The swords start to glow when they get hit, so even the current should be quite high.

  • I think the "swords" are flourescent tubes.

  • damn that tis tight as hell
