Anarasha is right. The movie combined stuff from two books, and adjusted for theatrical effect. It was cool though to watch the movie and know which book they were using. Of course, Interview with the Vampire was changed for theatrical effect as well. Anne Rice is a talented writer who makes you feel the suffering of her characters.
