  • what type of turntable are u using?

  • this is inspirational gdamit !!!

  • this is that chilla dilla. just got maschine myself. dig the quick job here.

  • yo so are you even gonna use the mc808? or is it obsolete....i wanna get the maschine ...is the mc 808 still good in the beat making and sampling world?

  • mad props to using vinyl for your sample sources. mad respect for the old school chopping too. Your killing it on that maschine.

  • Dude instead of copying the pads and changing the beginning of each sample you can just use the slice mode! slicing is awesome.

  • Dude you should put a ghostface a-capella to dat beat, dats ghostface all day nice beat.

  • Answer To Some Questions Bout Tempo/BPM , Play The Sample You Like , Do Tap Tempo . It Allows You To Manually Put The Tempo Clicks Then Tell You The BPM .

-Also , If Anyone Is Interested , Check out Some Of My Beats ! :)

  • whats good knock and knock fans like myself. i really appreciate the help u have given. i have 1 question my setup is using the numark turntable like the one u have in vid. how do u get to sample right from vinyl directly into maschine without having to find the files in computer. its aggrivating and time consuming. thanks for help? what equipment would u suggest

  • Comment removed

  • No knock, YOU are fast at freaking the samples....damn man, that came together first shot. Did you already alter the bpm manually, or did it sync up that nicely?

  • How do you load drum kits WITHOUT patterns automatically coming up in them? Just started using it today and want to make my own beats from scratch. Thanks for the help in advance.

  • Again... dope style!!!!! You know 9th wonder???????

now i call you 9.1th wonder

  • couriosity how do you sample a vocal? without it just coming from one channel like either left or right? i have my channels set to left & right in my maschine. and in my DAW wich is a studio one presonus audiobox, i have it routed left and right.i seen your recording vocal video wich is cool!.if you know anything about this problem hit me back and let me no somthing if you can it will be much appreciated. thanks and keep doing what u do bro.

  • ill mash up knock !!

  • I've watched a bunch of videos so far and finally am gonna comment on this one.

Great beat man brought tears to my eyes. (not literally). but amazing beat sounds so clean.

  • if this is just for fun... you must be insane when you get to work seriously.. awesome !

  • im not even going to go through all of the problems iv had with them. just google 'native instruments bad customer service' to see what their company is like

  • thanks sooo much for this man, i know what im buying

  • knock..that was the shit !

  • Gotta get my self one of those mannnn.... that is the shit !! ;)

  • This is the video that convinced me to save money and get the NI Maschine, I've had it for 2 months and making magic. To think I almost went for the MPC2500XL, keep doing good things

  • awesome man nice :)

  • Pleasee will you export them samples as wav Files fpr me pleaseeeeeeeeeeee?

  • should i get a maschine or akai mpd32?

  • @axellness the mpd32 is dope....but maschine is a lot more than that. With the MPD32 youre going to need some software in your computer for it to control. Maschine has its own software plus it integrates so well you can literally not look at the computer screen the whole time. Just my opinion

  • @KnockSquared plus mpd 32 has really bad pad response, faders and knobs are perfect , but pads are horrible ://////

  • @axellness The maschine is a great product, alot of mpc users are now switching to the maschine.

But the one big problem with the company that owns it (native Instruments) is that their after sale service is beyond a joke. I sent mine if for repairs dec and still havnt recieved it back, despite emails telling me that it has already been dispatched for me to ring the up and being told they are out of stock.

  • @axellness do your self a favor get a akai apc 40 and mashine and a akai mpk 25 best bet

  • @axellness it depends on your workflow. I debated myself over the same question. I went with the MPD32 and MOTU BPM. Similar in Capabilities but different workflows. Maschine is an intergrated package. Once you get the hang of it you don't have to look at your computer. MPD32 and BPM can be set up the same way with one exception. Sample editing requires using the mouse where with Maschine you use the controller. Notice in this Vid he's editing start points of his sample with the knobs.

  • You do very nice work, my friend, and your videos are immensely helpful to me as I try to get acquainted with my Maschine. Which kit are you using in this vid?

  • Dammm, Best sampling vid on youtube !!

  • hey i'm thinking about getting one of these. i have the mpc 2500 right now. is it true you don't need a mixer w/ this? does it allow you to track out into the software w/ out one?

    thanks

  • Nice beat man, Wouldn't of bothered with the acapella though

  • hey knock do u have that beat on ur site ? if yes whats the name of the track ? keep providing food for our ears :)

  • Sounds like Nancy Wilson(sample). very nice beat.

  • who sings this song i gotta have this song the original person i had the "and so is love" part stuck in my head plz tell me who sings this

  • what type of turntable is that you have?

  • Hey Knock, you are the shit with sampling! I gotta give you some sick props on all your vids, but this is the one that made me wanna comment. I just have a quick question that I was hoping you could answer. often times when i try to sample, the biggest problem for me is getting the older (slow) samples to match up to a good hip hop tempo. can u tell me how to tempo match? it would be greatly appreciate brotha

  • @stinianshiznit whats up man. Thanks for the comment. I may not be help in my answer. but all I can tell you is that I just use my ear. I will pitch up or down the thing I am sampling (sometimes with the turntable pitch...other times in maschine) and then I just program a beat and then play the samples over the beat and get the timing right by adjusting the pitch OR by chopping. Thats the gift and curse of samples... so many things can be done to them, but learning all the techniques take time

  • @KnockSquared Mos def! thanks alot bro. keep doin what your doin cuz im feeling the No I.D and Kanye vibe you got going on!

  • hey knock, nice beat/vid! do u know how i might take the crackling sound out of my wavs once i have imported them into maschine? they play fine in reason or any other program but in maschine they crackle.

  • @slickdicko Im not sure what the problem is. I wonder if its a bitrate problem or if its your audio interface. What interface do you have?

  • @slickdicko - It's either quantization caused by a difference in bit rate or when your bouncing it out of reason if thats what your doing you could have it too hot (loud) try lowering the sample down to at least -3db and was the sample before you brought it into Reason WAV? could be a few reasons.. Also check your sampling interpolation as well

  • ok i just got it!

1 more question. i hooked everything up but i still cant get it to sample my turntable records using native instruments.

    how do (you) do it?

(you) go to sampling on your videos and press record and play on the the turntable and it starts to record the ausio.

    min does not do that.

thks bro your beats are inspirational!!

  • what turntable you got?

  • @tigerstripes05 Numark TT-USB Turntable

  • that's how i chop in Guru or Ableton. does maschine let you work the start and end points live?

  • @sirvidia yes it does

  • Good ish man, What turntable is that? I"m about to cop the drum machine and a turntable again I used to rock a mpc but this seems like a better work flow.

  • Sweet. Thanks for doing something different.

  • Very nice video. The Maschine looks very easy to get to grips with, or maybe that's just you making it seem so?

  • did you set out to make an annoying song or did it just come naturally?

  • @runtheworks actually both. I see I have done a gteat job at it too. I annoy ob a global level... shouts to the UK.

  • @KnockSquared lol good reply, nice that you have a sense of humour

  • jeeeeeeez>.< got your message

    LOOOOOOOOOOOOVEEE

  • @Zkrudriverz yeah bro...loooooooove...lol. feel the message

  • very simple beat, but the creational process looked like fun.

  • Thanks man, I was trying to figure out how to extract a single chop from the original sample like on an mpc. found out you dont! haha.

  • EXCELLENT WORK, you have a genuine ear for groove!!! :) :)

    You should be out performing....

    Keep up the excellent work

  • @Bluesage2009 thanks for that.... :)

  • Hey I was wondering if you could make a video on how to filter out all of the other stuff on a sample like the drums and stuff like that...

  • dayumn thats some good stuff bro!

  • Just starting out.. what should i get MPC 1000 or MASCHINE???

    PLEASE HELP! CAN'T DECIDE!!

  • No lie, this is a pretty badass vid. Sick beat. Love the 50 in it. I just got my maschine a few weeks ago. Keep rockin the beats!

    RJD

  • Ha Knocksquare, so u from DC , im down the block in B'more. I got my Maschine just before Christmas, ck out some of your vids, and I'm tha man now. I shut down everybody on my days off, get on my Maschine, and b bangin out tunes , back 2 back. I'm gonna start a new youtube page, just to share what im do-n. Thanks Mo

  • dope shit sir!

  • That shit was hot KNOCKS!!

  • What was that sample?

  • Mr. KnockedSquared! U sick with this NI MASCHINE! I just started myself using the NI MASHINE. Check me out...... Thanks & Keep Up the Work!

  • dope i have bought one, hard to get used to the workflow ,but somehow i made a beat yesterday and used the compressor, man it sounded like dilla drums :D

    dope video

  • whats good knock hey bro keep me posted on the man vs machine beat tape ur working on i know u been grinding hard my dude. got some new vids up so feel free to check me out and feel free to comment rate and subscribe, waiting to get my mp back ou the shop had to get new pads and a few buttons fixed so one i get it back ill be working on two new beat tapes.

  • dont like it gets annoying after a while but i guess its good how to show people how to make beats and vocals on that system

  • @Eoinmtv sometimes watching the process can be annoying to the viewer...sometimes not. Thanks for watching it regardless.

  • bro if u get that beat on ur site for 10$ imma buy it word !!!

  • @JLAKS haaa..I thought it was already on my page..lol. I need to check.

  • @KnockSquared can't find it or i'm just dumb :p hit me up with the title ;)

  • @KnockSquared need it badly bro gonna kill this with some sick lyrics

  • @WinstonWrightTv The duplicate method is just the way I work personally. I checked your page. You got nice joints but honestly... your way seems harder..LOL. I see you stretching around to mess with that mouse and Ableton. You tied to the mouse bro. Its all good though... we all got ways we work. I can say with confidence that Nothing is faster than maschine as far as handling samples... UNLESS you are full software. Besides ..you can always just autochop on Maschine too.

  • hey man. where you get that great vocals from? love it ! want some magic stick vocals too bro !

  • hey whats up bro how did u get ur vynal samles into the mashine itself..luve ur vids bro..

  • EZ bro you UR Maschine videos are tight , seriously you must be a Jedi master when it comes to this thing I have one myself and I am no where near your expertise . keep jamming and stay creative dude.

  • Everytime I see your vids, I get inspired to make beats on my Maschine but I hardly have time to create because I'm always working. Thanks for posting. Forget those haters lol!

  • yuh suckk broo,

yuh chopped the sample helah ugly ..

  • @gabrieljj925 Let me translate that for you so my viewers can tell what you said "" You are not good Brother... for you chopped the sample quite un-attractively' LMAOOOOO

  • @KnockSquared

hahahaha That was good Knock.. keeping his ghetto ass in place. LMAOOO !

  • @cabinda4ever LMAO...man... I know we all type out a few off words here and there..but DAMN... this dude took that new "Ebonics 2.0 Turbo" class.

  • @KnockSquared Ebonics 2.0 LOL! Everytime I see your vids, I get inspired to make beats on my Maschine but I hardly have time to create because I'm always working. Thanks for posting. Forget those haters lol!

  • @tahzzy Take a day off Bro !!LOL... have like "Maschine Monday" once a month... trust me ..taking a day to do nothing but produce is the sh*t ! Also... tell any girlfriends wives kids etc.... to fall back that day..LOL.

  • So so def. Love where it goes around 4:30!

  • Comment removed

  • y the 50 cent sample man. ahahaha. dope tho.

  • wuts the name of the sample.?

  • its Nancy Wilson... I cant remember the name of the song..I got it in a pile of records..LO

  • i love the maschineeeeeeeeeee lol

  • Hey knock I got a question. Can you connect a USB turntable to the maschine and sample from it? Or what is your turntable hooked up to? Can Anyone answer my question?

  • great video

seems very nice to work without a computer monitor and the first samples sounds like the good old times :)

  • gots to get it !!!!!!! hate staring at the screen

    good shit

  • I am buying one tomorrow.

  • These are the kind of youtube post that give me inspiration for my own music. Check out my new song "Let it all Go By Flomaticc" Give me a review & comment. Thank you, Have a positive day. If you like what I do then download my music @ Flomaticc . com

  • im an mv user and to me the onyl thing is missing for me to amake the switch is the stretching --that has to be coming since it runs of the computer. workflow wise it looks like it rivals if not exceeds the mv workflow speed or maybe it just ur mastery of that piece...

  • @wakko..I am praying for timestretch !!! I also am a lover of the MV...but as for me personally I move faster with maschine

  • @wakko1999 you can use virtual dj in conjunction with it to edit samples for timestretching

  • Knock, this might be my favorite thing of yours. The keys on this sample are just divine.

  • Is it possible to sample with a record player?

  • What do you mean? U play your record on the player and sample it with your sampler (in this case, the Maschine)

  • Hahaha.. i love it!!!

i love your style and how you put it all together, really nice.

    BIG UPS to you dude..

    respekt

    from Australia

  • Tell me something, Knock? I just bought this damn MPC 2500 like 4 or 5 days ago, right? From checking out your videos, Im thinking I may have a small case of "Buyer's Remorse". Hell, I coulda gotten one of these....a mic........some Beat By Dre..........a pack of smokes and a damn Pepsi! Sheeeeeeeesh! Tell me, what are the tecknical advantages of the Maschine vs MPC (brands).......other than the obvious database of presets that come with it??? Please respond. Right here in your hometown, DC....

  • what up man. well the 2500 is Hot !! Dont have remorse... I love maschine but the 2500 is hot also. One obvious advantage for the mpc is no computer. also syncing with external imstruments is more dependable (at the time) on the mpc. as far as sampling ...forget about it...NOTHING is faster than Maschine, I heard the 2500 is lower priced now...so hopefully you got that good deal.Bottom line is the 2500 is dope also and you should love it. (just my opinion) DMV !!

  • @C3DesignBuild man i answered you and it didnt even show up...LOL wrote a long ass reply... SHEESH youtube fails sometimes.

  • @C3DesignBuild i kno one thing that it does that akai should have done a long time ago and thats connect your turntable directly to it.. thats one of the reasons y im buyin this lol

  • @C3DesignBuild - Well for price this mashine looks better and has more ability than the MPC... But in saying that it's really not just the equipment, It's actually sitting down and learning the tool inside out creating your on sounds and practice like hell... DJ Premier for ages used an E-mu SP1200 and well that gear is old in todays terms but he learnt it inside out... It's how you use it and how creative you are ;)

  • yo fam that ish is tyte bro

  • I actually enjoyed listening to this....btw, does the maschine work as a standalone like the mpc?

  • Is this even connected to a computer?

  • Yes, it has to be! Maschine works by USB. It doesn't have it's own so called "plug". It's connected to the computer to operate through its own USB cord. It's a sweet piece & Knock is a beast on it!

  • it has its own onboard seqencer. you dont need a PC for it, thats why alot of dj's like to use it on stage plus you can also sample live with it. if its like the 1 i had, it will auto trim samples for you?

  • Same here.. Bought Maschine mainly because of those videos some days ago :)

found a good deal for 522,-EUR incl. shipping

Love the jazzvibes KnockSquared. Keep em coming!

  • Watched all your vids! love em.. i actually bought a MASCHINE after watching you haha so you should get like commission or summn cuz i think a lot of ppl did the same as me haha... CAN YOU TRY TO MAKE A BEAT WITH "The Carpenters-Superstar?" sampled i think it would work out good but cant seem to make it work!

  • The lax beat and melodic mixxed together is great.

  • you got mad style man.. i like your whole steez. 5 starz!

  • I LOvE the way u make this song, I have machine and this video is great.

  • Maschine is going to be my first major hardware purchase. I want a Korg R3 to go with it eventually (after another few years of saving!) but do you reckon a Korg NanoKey would be okay to lay down some synth stuff?

  • is there any way you can change the metronome, that beep would annoy the crap out of me.

  • Props on all your videos, they were one of the reasons I rushed to GC to buy one. I'm still in the "wow" overwhelmed stage and trying to see how I can get it to work with Ableton 8. I have so much to learn but certainly looking forward to it. I have very bad habits and keep going to my computer and not using the controller as much as I should. Can you recommend a place where I can find some of its shortcuts?

  • Eddy... check the NI forums. Its the BEST place to find info. They have a Maschine Section and alot of people are using Ableton with Maschine and they answer questions. The Controller is your friend... dont let it sit... MAKE YOURSELF use it.... thats what I did and now its second nature . When you go to the forums you will see that the upcoming updates for Maschine are gonna turn this beast into a bigger monster.

  • or maschine and keyboard got not much money

  • get maschine !! If you want to play sounds in maschine library like synths and stuff like that then i recommend a keyboard controller with it

  • man what do i need to use a turntable and maschine?

  • you dont have to use turntable. Thats optional :)

  • Good video. I am working on buying maschine because I dont have a hardware sampler and it will work with my microkorg. dope maschine...

  • and that will be a GOOD combo !!

  • excuse me man but the maschine work s only with the computer or also without it??

excuse me for my english but i'm italian

    i love your beats

    respect

  • it is software like acid. albeton. reasons

  • As far as I know you cannot do timestretching (like i.e. ableton live can do).

    Anyway, great vids, thx!

  • Can you speed up the tempo or change the pitch without effecting either ...

  • Very nice!!!!

    Grandma mary

  • does it support vsti like hypersonic and sonik synth

  • Nah, maschine itself does not support plugins, BUT you can freak the samples in maschine and then use your DAW as a host for Maschine. Then use all the VST's you want in the host.

  • indeed Johnnie... but wait till that next update comes out. Midi out to a vst or external !!!!!

  • Dude I can't wait. I just saw the update announcement the other day. Looks awesome.

  • good news and bad news... bad news is no it doesnt support vsti's ///good news is the next update due out soon has midi out (to an external sound module OR a vst in your computer.) shit is gonna be bananas

  • awesome beat but you shouldn't have put 50's whack ass in this beat....... this some j-dilla style shit....

  • LOL... i feel you. You know how it goes tho..lol

  • fasho

  • This is what I wanted to see... some hip hop madde on the maschine.. im tired of all these techno heads posting that stuff. Dope Beat man. I want a MASCHINE SOOO BAD!!!!!!

  • D....GET IT MAN !!!! Trust !

  • Unreal man, I love hip hop that samples oldies I have a Maschine as well and it's great to see someone do some great hip hop stuff with it

  • Thanks man.... I do club also !!

  • These videos are great! Thank you so much for sharing.

One question: How do you match/stretch the acappella to the beat? Did you quantize the beat to the acappella samples?

  • sorry for the late reply Lakse... I just beat matched the acapella... basically i set the tempo before the vid started (one of the advantages of being a DJ since age 13...lol)

  • good stuff man, diggin ya vids bro

  • S and G thank you for that

  • not a 50cent fan but i love the beat. sick shit man

  • lol...second 50 comment....lol ..you know sometimes you got to drop something familiar on the beat.... but I feel you no doubt... thanks for the luv man. !

  • hey amazing beats man!!

just wanted to know is this done without computer and straigt from vynil onto the maschine?

  • Killlist.... the hardware of maschine itself doesnt sample... it all goes to the computer. But because the hardware is so well connected with the software...you DO NOT have to touch the computer if you dont want to. BUt yeah..the turntable is plugged to my audio interface going into my computer. Thanks for checkin the vids man !!

  • beautiful man

  • Very sick vids dude..... I have a mpc 4000 right now, and im thinking about getting the maschine.... how does it compare to the hardware samplers you own? and do you think the maschine is going to become your centerpiece when making beats?

  • Knock, on the real, you have been putting it down for a minute - do work son.

I'm about to purchase one ...

What can you tell me about the PITCH/Time-stretch algorithms on it? Rumor has it that it doesn't maintain pitch like the MV-8000/8800 or MPC during tempo changes.

Hit me back, and keep bangin'!

    1-thousand

  • what up Pugh...it doesnt have pitch shift/time stretch ...so no it doesnt do like the MV....but that may change...they are updating alot. Thanks Man

  • Knock that is the REAL DEAL!! I was waiting for someone to do some REAL shit on the Maschine. Still only early days. Great to see you ripping it up like this!! Much respect. Shows me the Maschine will have a long journey. Cant wait to see a full set from you on this Mashcine. You'll rip it up live brah.

    Fuk yeah!!

  • Thanks again, Knock! You keep showing me how to do my bizzo on the Maschine.... and I can't wait to put me something together. It shouldn't be too much longer before I have it in my hot hands.

    Keep pushing it on, bruh!

  • Damn.. you're a crack!

Usually I'm not into hiphop but this was inspiring. I just got my KORG EMX 1 and I think I know what I'll be doing now.

However MASCHINE seems to be a sweet tool... Berlin Quality ^^

    Greetings from Germany

  • Great vid; I love all your stuff.

How did you learn how to do this stuff? Do you recommend any books or videos on making beats?

Do most of the hardware work in a similar manner? Thanks!

  • i see you workin the hardware but where does the computor come in and do you have your turntable pluged into the machine

  • Powerman... whats up. Nah... thats where alot of people get confused. The Hardware part is nothing other than a controller... NOW...Its PERFECT CONTROLLER...lol as you really dont have to touch the mouse at all if you dont want to. The Turntable is pluged into my soundcard. And I make the Maschine Software recognize my soundcard as the input to the sampler. Very Easy. Its CRAZY for me because I have a M-audio NRV10..so I can set any of those channels to go to the sampler.

  • pink nails strikes again!

  • LOL !!!! Nah SON,.... No Pink nail Lighting this time. Strictly dirty nails and Hip Hop !!!

  • thats for the great reviews man, i gonna get one after seeing your reviews yo, the mv & mpc have alittle comp know! lol

  • Haaaa Indeed !! Thanks For checkin me out Pic
