  • i didnt even know you could eat a fuckin cactus

  • Gorgeous : ) Man I want to try that.. Can't wait to try it. Thx : )

  • quite amazing...also try cactus salsa, just, use raw chopped cactus in place of some of the tomatoes.

this cactus helps regulate the blood sugar. absolutely cured my type 2 diabetes.

  • I'll watch your videos when you quit swearing. Toxic words, dude.

  • Good point, this is an old video though. Language is choice and a video like this explicit shouldn't be used, yes - my art is different though. Chose words/expressions wise, thanks for the reminder.

  • @jalyne999 judgments are probably more toxic though ... :) x peace

  • I used to live in this small village in Mexico when I was a kid. My mom, my brothers and I would go a few times a week to pick up fresh cactus in the wild because they grow like crazy in that place! During summer they would have prickly pears so we would get fresh vegetables and sweet and delicious fruit from the same plant.

  • i've never heard of cactus being used around here (Nova Scotia) until I had the cactus dip at Boston Pizza....my mouth was a little moist before and after your video, I'm dying to know where to get some cactus or some info on what the best way not to kill them is if my best bet is to grow it myself. I wish my breakfast looked like that =(

  • Also, whenever you use cactus, it seems you added some cilantro and lime. It's so good. Try it with orange and pineapple juice.

  • Que rico!

  • It's basic cactus pads aka nopales - just wash, remove the needles and cut into triangles to look like chips! Fresh cactus is dewy/moist inside with a slight green bell pepper taste. They are refreshing and lubricating - especailly when chilled.

  • hey what kind of cactus is that i'd love to try grow it at home.

  • It's basic cactus pads aka nopales - just wash, remove the needles and cut into triangles to look like chips!

  • that is very creative, it looks so full of flavanoids

  • that looks great

  • Sorry it took so long to answer.. this is about nopales: It is not so difficult to de-spike them, maybe it just takes a while to get used to it. Just be careful. Hope you can grow them in your garden, the same with aloe vera they are very easy growing plants. :)

  • no worries, perfect timing actually! i am going saturday to the garden store and these 2 things are on my list! out with the old dying plants and in with the new fall crops!

  • Heyy Johnny this might be a stupid question, but I really want to try a raw food lifestyle however I'm stuck in a really bad bulimia relapse right now, typically I'm a very healthy eater, when I'm not caught up in my disorder... I do feel like this might help me get a new perspective on eating and food, and help me not to use food as a way of dealing with things... Do you think this is a good thing for someone with bulimia to try, or will it set off a really bad binge purge cycle???

  • The psychology of bingeing: one aspect of it is nutritional imbalance. If you are not balancing your nutrition you are not balancing your brain chemicals and body functions. All three go HAND IN HAND. Therefore, if you attempt to go raw and it's not done gradually and in a balanced manner than you are most likely setting yourself up to binge. Food is not the problem nor is it the cure. I would first recommend you make sure you are getting the mental help and support you need before expecting

  • to see behavioral modifications - ie. reduced to abstinent bingeing and purging. I am a big fan of raw and have been at it almost 4 years now. It has really helped me but this has been over a course of time. I feel it can help those who are willing to work with it, balnced it, get educated on how to do this and stick with it. A healthy diet is one you can keep up with the rest of your life. So as for nutrition, I'd recommend you start adding more raw into the meals you are able to keep in.

  • 1. What kinds of foods are you CRAVING before the binge happens?

    2. What kinds of foods are you actually bingeing on?

    3. What kinds of foods are safe to keep in?

I can give you some advice if you can answer these questions for me. HUGS, hang ing there. You are brave to ask for help.

  • Hmmm Ok...

    1. What kinds of foods are you CRAVING before the binge happens?

Typically salty foods, like cheese, and pasta and things like that... sometimes sweet things but that's rare...

    2. What kinds of foods are you actually bingeing on?

Pizza is my big trigger/binge food, chips, lean cuisines because that's usually what I have in the house... Pasta a lot...

  • Cravings happen for a variety of reasons. I first question cravings in relation to dietary lifestyle and nutritional intake. Your trigger foods and cravings rank as SALTY ones. You see this too. It is hard for most people to have sodium defencies - which is what I would first question when craving salt. This generally isn't the case with salt cravings. I can tell you that vomitting imbalances the electrolytes, sodium being a vital electrolyte, potassium and chloride being the others.

  • You lose these when purging and they must be replaces. You also become dehydrated. These 2 things relate to salt cravings, big time. Let's focus on getting your electrolytes balanced and getting proper hydration. If you can, please make coconut water your new best friend. It is by far the best thing you can drink. How are you with fresh juices and smoothies? Do you have access to making your own? Seaweeds, spinach, celery, raw olives, pink sea salt, etc are great and healthy sources of sodium

  • and will help with reducing cravings if related to nutritional defeciency/electrolyte loss... as well as replace what is lost through sweat, purging, etc. and not getting enough of from the foods you do keep in if that is the case. Avoid table salt, it's the devil. Invest in a high quality pink sea salt, it's mineral rich - a little goes a long way. The more brain balance you have the more logic you will have to say NO to b/p triggers. Balanced nutrition is as important as balanced mental health

  • 3. What kinds of foods are safe to keep in?

Foods that don't sit to heavy, usually veggies are ok, foods that are really low in fat and calories, um other than that I haven't really been able to keep much in lately...

  • I had a big feeling nutritional deficiency is keeping you stuck in a cycle. Brain chemicals become unbalanced and we can't work full fledge as a whole person when off balance. Do what you can do my dear, every little bit helps. I promise.

  • Thanks Johnny... I found a support group by my house that I'm going to start going to, I'm reluctant to start therapy again, partly because I don't have insurance right now... I'm looking into my options though, I think I might call my doctor and ask her what I can do... I hope everything is going good for you!! take care

    <3 K

  • that looks amaaaaaaaaaaazingly yummy :]

  • So, I'm about the furthest thing from a raw foodist, but that guacamole looks purely mouthwatering and the cactus looks to die for!

  • That looks so good, I'm coming over for dinner! =P

    Take care.

  • ooh johnny, that looks so delicious! i think i'm gonna steal some squash blossoms from my landlady's garden and make this. i love cactus, but i don't think i can find it fresh here in montreal, just in a can. the guac looks delicious too...i love it when it's chunky:) bon appetit!

  • I always thought the cactus would have prinkers on the inside as well as the out. It didn't appear that way from the video. What are the bumps inside the cactus? It all looked very tasty what you prepared to eat, and a beautiful mean presentation too. Thanks for sharing and teaching us all about raw food diets. I hope all is well with you Johnny. I'm thinking about you and wishing you well. Take Care. Love and Hugs. : )

  • That sounds really good!

  • I'm glad you showed the cactus on camera; I wanted to get a look at it. The quacamole appears very tasty! Yummmy.

  • I love "nopales" I use them as breads for yummy raw sandwiches. They are really good when very young. :)

  • omg i love them as breads, i make raw pizzas and use them as crusts! tell me your favorite raw sandwich recipes when using nopales!!!?!?!?

  • ps. do you find them comforting to eat? i find them very comforting, probably because they are so lubricating. it's just such a nice feeling for me and encourages me to eat them more and more...

  • Not only are thet a comforting food, I´m from Mexico and here it is a every day dish. You can make a salad with onion, avocado, tomatoes, cilantro and nopales (everything chopped in little cubes)add some lemon and you have a traditional mexican dish. :)They are wonderful food, the plant is a very giving plant as you can plant it easily.

  • I make that same thing into a raw soup!!! I would love to grow some. I should add that to my list. I am trying to find an already starting to grow organic aloe vera plant. I shall look for organic nopales too. I had never de-spiked them though, is it hard? Ps. I love giving plants, oh the beauty.

  • wow-I never knew that cactus can be eaten. I always thought of them as really dull plants that people put on their window-sill-sorry cactuses!!

  • Your food is as beautiful as you are!

    You are my inspiration.

  • thanks!

  • Hi Sweet Pea!!! WOW THIS IS WONDERFUL NEWS!!! Care to share some of the raw delish-delights you have been devouring? I love to hear this kind of stuff! Spread the love, others might get ideas from your recipes too!!!

  • I love your showcases, vids in generally actually. You are such an interesting beauty! The beef-strokin' video has to be my favorite ahaha love that one so much. Nopales (cactus)can be found at Mexican produce stores and in many regular grocery stores too - they remove the spikes. I get mine fresh from the farmers market! You can grow it too but be careful with those spikes!!!

  • Looks great! I'll have to really try this.

    Hope your well. <3
