When the soprano started singing by herself I got goosebumps. She made it look so effortless, but after a bit when, she gives everyone a little "yeah... I'm out of breath now" look., that was cute too. Excellent, thanks for sharing!
So .. I'm confused.. The restaurant is Russian. It's called "Kiev" which is capital of Ukraine.. The group is from Ukraine.. singing a Russian song in Russian language about a guy from the steppes, which is in Ukraine, and is called Kalinka, which is Russian plant??? Dude im lost..
Many so called Russian songs are from the Ukraine, as are some of the Russian leaders. The culture and language is almost identical and Ukrainian is just a Russian dialect...the Russians copied their culture from the Ukraine.
Russia is a country who had a Monarchy: the Soviets were a political entity that stole the culture and took power by revolution. Yes there is a difference comrade.
No, no. I'm not talking about ethnicity. I'm talking about government officials and such. Of course, if I were referring to a person of Russian decent, I'd call them Russian. But I wouldn't call a Ukrainian a Russian.
All the same, I don't call what was the USSR "Russia", I call the countries by what they are. If I'm talking about the Russian SFSR, then I'd call it Russia/the Russian SFSR. If I were referring to Azerbaijan, I'd call it the Azerbaijani SSR.
Well closely if you mean to say that millions upon millions died fighting against one another because of the aggression of Russians and the want of Ukraine to be autonomous and free from Russian rule... You could say that about Russians and finns too and Czechs and germans..???
Polish fool, Most of Ukraine is not even Ukrainian and want nothing to do with western Ukraine and there puppet government. All of ghost of grandfathers would be ashamed to be Ukrainian and see what the government is doing.
@Stinkywrix Not Really, After ukraine broke off from Russia our people Totally icolated them. I've lived in russia Almost my entire Life and i came to realize The ukrainians are Russians dont get along....at all. Ukraine continues to beg for Things like gas and stuff and they whine and complain all the time about us. They should have never broken off. It was their mistake. All i can say is...ukrainains are Wanna be Russians. (No offence to ukrainains) But thats how it always seems.
@Westyrulz Not really we have slightly diffrrent langauges and the people in Ukraine are a little, uhm, how do i say it nicely? Out there. Personally i do not like ukrainains
I have only met about three or four ukrainians that i like. But who knows that could change.

Ukraine was part of Russia for a VERY long time. centuries ago russians, belarusians, and ukrainians were all one people under the kingdom Rus'. regional nationalism and resentment of moscow's power drove them away. in fact, "ukrainian" was an artificial term made up by nationalists (much like Paki, a fake word, was created to make Pakistan)
Best analogy is if Bavaria were to break away from Germany. They are still Germans, just regional culture
@Vopli88 Just for the geographical record, the steppes go from Ukraine all the way to Mongolia and eastern Siberia, with some breaks here and there. Some might consider parts of the plains of hungary and parts of Romania as a fragment of the same general geographical formation broken by the Carpathians. Apart from that, I was thinking the same thing about the situation :)
Desde Argentina excelente video muy simpatico el hobre que esta en el centro me recuerda a mi abuelo ucraniano siempre muy alegre excelente cancion y unas voces espectaculares
Well, the song was written for a theatre in the 19th century and Kalinka is the Russian name for the Viburnum opulus, the snowball tree. And you can see the snowball tree as a synonym of for his love waiting in the garden for him, but, yes, it is never mentioned, that he calls her 'Kalinka'. It's an interpretation.
I like the face of the obese one...

Why do they give you a negative vote? This is absurd. You are the only one making sense here!

So...it strikes you as odd that people use "Russian" and "Soviet" interchangeably?

I know there's a difference. Other people don't.
Honestly, I've seen someone who though Uzbekistan was a Russian province (I don't think that's the correct term, though), like Siberia is.

westerners have strange interpretations of russians.
calling someone a "soviet" makes no sense. soviet literally means "a council", or more proper "a workers' council".

would you call someone from the united states "a united"?
