  • in 5 days you could make the fridge from the living room...

  • its too slow, a lot of lag and very bulky way to bulky (i made these opinions just from looking a pic of Rex on the net before seeing the vid and sure enough i was correct) the company webpage that built these legs parades it like hell. I just came from the "Hal the new robot suit" (japan built) and it is much smaller and moves more fluent than this one

as a new zealander i have high hopes for achievement when i see our country stepping into new ventures (other than bloody agriculture)

  • @08071987 has new Zealand's educated and talented people stabbed us in the back for money and gone over seas to Australia to benefit them and not us their own people and country?

  • if possibl make an exoskeleton that a sevearly paralized person will not have to transfer to because the person is sevealy paralized and cannot transfer to it

  • the military applications to this and the in hybridization with HULC could create a Battle soldier Stronger then any other

  • What is really amazing about this, is this is already 1 year ago. Just think of what progress has been made by now. And how much farther along they'll be in five years. It's like living in a science fiction movie.

  • grat begining of a new tech, im impatiant to see this slimmed down (like the boston dynamics who have their petbot)

  • That's pretty amazing. I'm quite interested in further versions - probably they'll be a bit more fluent and faster, but, yeah, it takes some time to do such improvements. Still outstanding.

  • Wow - fantastic!!!

  • Good work guys.

  • 10 people are in the Wheelchair-industrial-complex

  • one small step man, one giant step for a man in a wheelchair

  • 2:36 this is what it's all about. Priceless

  • Doctors say I have a very high chance of having MS like my father. This is a bastion of hope for anyone who may be in a wheelchair someday. THANK YOU.

  • héhe_í_fèël_sô_lÖñelY_t0Dáÿ

  • 10 people don't like handicapped people walking again?

  • This is really great for the rich who can use this toy...the price, I guarantee, even 10 yrs from now, will not be affordable for people like me...I would be dead before it were ever cheap enough to afford for the disabled on limited incomes like myself.

  • It seems amazing. I would like to know if you people are selling it for public? My bf has been on wheel chair from 7/8 years. The problem is, he has gain weight. Is there some sort of weight limit which it can lift?

  • the video is cool.......very cool .....bye bye

  • A bit slow. And for $150,000 That is crazy seriously all the materials to make and put together cost probably around 10K.

  • pretty stupid

  • outstanding stuff. I'll be your gunea pig. I have FA, confined to a wheelchair, very active and live in Christchurch. this would be perfect for me! :)

  • @chen88ableable Great to hear from you. Rex is available for purchae in New Zealand so let's talk further. Just send through an email via the Contact Us section on our website rexbionics.co.nz and we'll be in touch. Thomas at Rex Bionics.

  • loose the glasses on the head or get a hair transplant.

  • Being able to stand up, no longer having to watch the world on crotch-height, that alone is a big advantage. Sure, it's slow, that's the problem with prototypes. All it needs is time and fine tuning. As a concept it is a good "step" in the right direction. We'll have to start somewhere.

  • i feel sorry for the 10 pple tht died watching this amaxing video and land on the dislike button

  • I wish you all the luck in the world! This will make the dream of so many come true. I can't even begin to imagine how it must feel to be able to walk after so many years, it must've been akin to experiencing firsthand a true-to-life miracle!

  • Truly a leap in medical technology, I wish you luck and much success in the future.

  • Outstanding. I was in a motorcycle wreck once... was in a wheelchair for 3 months... to a degree I understand not being able to walk... this is outstanding. I can't wait to see this progress :)

  • @evlzx Thanks. Your comments are really appreciated by our team. We're looking forward to bringing more of the Rex story to YouTube soon. Thomas at Rex Bionics.

  • Colonel, Im in front of the manufacturing facility.

  • Man, Rex. Are they crazy. Bipedal legs called Rex. Sounds like a gear. A metal pair of legs. Hmmm. Metal Gear Rex(A bipedal walking nuke launcher)Rex(bipedal legs for paralyzed people) Man if I were Hideo Kojima, I would sue.

  • comments are appreciated and returned !!!!!!!!!!!

  • Oh this is awesome! I wish I could get one for my son!

  • What happens if he slips on ice. Will he be injured and can he get back up.

  • just a thought, what about putting wheels on the sides so that it can be a hybrid so that you have a option without having to transfer to a wheelchair. at least until REX can move a little faster.

  • why not just replace the legs altogether wish motorized prosthesis. Using nano fibers you could link them right into the spinal column. And because the legs would be robotic they can be operated independently from any upper body issues. However provide an upper body stability they could also have gyroscopic sensors that tied into the nano fibers in the spinal column. This would solve the issue of speeds and bulkiness of the unit.

  • This would be much more interesting if the video work were actually intelligently done instead of trying to look stylish. I want to see full-length shots of the Rex in use, not flash-cut closeups of specific pieces of it such that I have no idea of how it looks when someone actually uses it.

  • @dwntwn1973 thats cause the machine is still a piece of shit. It takes all day to get anywhere. The guy is hugley exagerating how "great" the machine is. Probably a part owner.

  • @NicosMind If you couldn't walk, anything like walking would be "great"... if you watch the whole thing he brings up just being able to stand without someone else has tons of uses for him. Don't be so ungrateful...

  • @totkrieg I cant walk. Im a T3 paraplegic so i know what its like. Anything like walking is possible in other shittier standing frames that you operate with your arms and body muscles. We had one in the hospital where i spent nearly 6 months being rehabilitated. Speedwise it was a superior product. I did watch the whole thing. We have wooden standing frames and we're meant to stand for an hour a day. It doesnt have a "ton" of uses but just a couple, digestion, blood pressure and to (continue)

  • stop bones degrading.

You think im ungrateful? Im not, i just know far better than you do. I was walking up until 4 years ago when i was hit by a car. Ill tell you what im not also. Im not so delusional that i cant see a crappy product and a sales pitch. Sure its got potential but theres a lot of delusional desperate people out there that would be suckered by this sales pitch and highly disappointed when they do see this product.

Plus this is so slow/unmaneuverable its nothing like walking!

  • Those military exoskeletons are much faster, but I guess that might be because their movement is led by actual human movement. Since paralyzed people can't move the limbs that the machine needs to move it presents a different problem. I've seen prosthetics that are connected to human nerves and work really well, can't they do that here for a faster response time?

  • Interesting development, does anyone know how this compares to Argo Medical Technologies Rewalk developed in 2008, ?The Israeli system seems to be the FIRST and is much faster!

  • Very cool! Hayden is cute too.

  • Круто!!!

  • If fallen over how to pick yourself up since it a 38kg kit?

I do wonder if Honda and US military have caught sleeping since they have done extensive research on exoskeleton, but no mass market for the disabled.

For now most will go for "Ibot 4000" though until the next generation design came about (i.e. lighter, cheaper, faster, hands free, more power and possibly the one that can do a dance as well)

  • who de fuck u have a dogystyle with this

  • This guy sounds like a homeshopping host.

  • TOO SLOW!

  • wheelchair users wheel faster then the average walking speed, same for the scooters.

The first generation of this rex looks retardedly slow but its a cool half mech anyway.

  • Americans achieved much better agility long time ago.

Why not just use their experience?

    See there: youtube.com/user/BostonDynamics

  • You'll notice stairs in the workshop, don't be thinking they can't walk up em..

  • 1:30 EPIC WIN

  • The t-10 terminators are here

  • whys it moving so slow?? cant they have someone who can walk use it so that the machine can record the persons natural movements? Then it would mimic the persons movements instead of the machine trying to figure out a way to walk from scratch and moving so low. Im pretty sure we have the technology to do that...

  • What exactally is it going to benefit?? nothing other then helping with weight bearing into the bones to fight osteoporosis which can be done with a stander or standing wheeler (which is about $8,000). i could only see this as a toy!! the only way to fight paralysis is with physical therapy and F.E.S, also a compound drug called Famperdine-sr (4AP)

  • @severnmdman Try stairs.

  • @johnaiton -- what about em? whos house do you really plan to visit w/ alot of steps.

plus every where in the U.S. is handicap accessible. im a quad and i just get bumped up and down them.

  • Try to look at this : Cyberdyne

  • Is this the trailer for the new RoboCop movie?

  • This might be like computers - it's 40 kilos and slow now, but in 10 years it's slim and light like an ipod!

  • @ErlendWins yeah I bet in 10 years paraplegic ppl will be running the marathon. Just wished now was 2020 :D

  • @ErlendWins Apple iWalk

  • It is too slow, i think.Maybe in 1-2 years we will see exoskeletons with turbo acceleration and car-like-speed? Hope so:)

  • Come on this thing needs turbo!!!!

  • I want one but a faster one to be honest. Maybe soon.

  • this is amazingly good news for ppl that are paralyzed from the waist down!

  • kind of scary soon they will be making iron man suits lol..

  • If your house is on fire and your in that thing it will take you like half an hour to get out.

  • @0YoungSavage Now... but wait for it to be developed even further, wait for it to get better :D.

  • Fantastic! Imagine where these sort of things will be in 5 years, imagine 20 years. It's inspiring to see science being put to use to help peoples quality of life.

  • i think israel one is bit betr n fast exept one thing of using crutches but its btr den wheel chair

  • Comment removed

  • It's amazing, but painfully slow. I'm sure it's just good to walk again though.

  • So slow, right?

  • @rigomrtsfx

It is up to you, if you finance it they would love to give them to people for free. These things are very expensive at this time, and this is considered top of the line. Something much cheaper but also very liberating are the standing wheel chairs.

Standing wheel chairs may be way cheaper, but they are still between $12,000 - $24,000 each.

  • yay on NZ =D

  • He is hot,can he fuck me with that on?

  • By the time you get to the toilet it's to late

  • his is the worlds first remote control one i guess, but its def not the first exoskeleton.

    youtube.com/watch?v=EdK2y3lphmE

  • the japs already made this, and it functions 10x better

  • Comment removed

  • @severnmdman the Japanese exoskeleton is for able bodied people only - unlike Rex it is not usable for paraplegics or the disabled.

  • @israelcooper --okay so the italian guy already did! what does it matter anyway, theres no sence of any parapelegic just jumping into one of these, i guarantee you that this guy never got a bone density scan before operating it. hows he to know if his bones are osteoporatic or not. this will not help to benefit recovery but only as a heedence against bone damage by weight bearing into the legs/pelvis.

  • Not much longer till we have the loader from the movie "aliens" Then after that, EPIC ROBOTIC ALIEN BATTLES!

  • Iron man

  • Slow as fuck

  • @DavidMiller1991 .....lol your right about that we are fucked her comes liquid snake

  • What if HE FALLS how would he be able to stand back upp

  • Slow.

  • It just pisses me off seeing poeple trying to make a better life for themselves but the government can fix those legs with a simple shock and sound waves to the brain all u need are a couple of tubes transmitting sound waves and small electrical shocks to the brain ur legs are ther now if you did not have them then u can use that machine

  • @MixedVideosHD i hope u get paralyzed from the yes down and aids

  • @lukassnakeman u took it the wrong way man am jst sain dont u think millionares get more access to cures than regular people do i mean if a rich guy has cancer he would play millions of dollars to fix it but we regular people cant

  • @MixedVideosHD y didnt u say that 2 start with instead of sounding like an unbelievable douche jackass

  • @lukassnakeman idk

  • @MixedVideosHD -- are you really that retarted

  • Great video! I have a Robot video I have just made - called Robot Boy! Have tried to respond with it. Check it out rexbionics :)

  • Half man, half machine

  • 5 dislikes? I don't get it, person can finally walk again and some of you hit dislike button. Really?

  • That is correct, check86. The first ones are always expensive. Imagine what will be available in 5 years. Lighter and less expensive. Very cool!!

  • bloody brilliant,,

  • Just I would like to say to the guys who think this is not important, that it is very important. There are a lot of people would love to have this robotic legs and it will change their lives. To get a wheelchair user to walk, is like getting a walking person to fly. Anyway this technology will improve in the future and we consider this as a start

  • Lol... Hypothetically, if you were to accidentaly set you house on fire, would you be able to get out in time with those?

  • WOW WHAT A RIP OFF JAPANESE EXO SKELETON..

  • WOW WHAT A RIP OFF JAPANESE EXO SKELETON..

  • ESTE EXOESQUELETO PODRIA AYUDAR MUCHO A PERSONAS QUE NO PUEDEN CAMINAR POR SU CUENTA. ESTA ES UNA DE LAS APLICACIONES DE LA ROBOTICA PARA MEJORAR LA VIDA, EN ESTE CASO PARA PERSONAS CON DISCAPACIDAD

  • METAL GEAR?!

  • @makka432 Next thing you know it'll be launching fucking nukes

  • The first Metal Gear was called REX. we're fucked.

  • @DavidMiller1991 hahahahahhah yeah it was!

  • @DavidMiller1991 haha crack up

  • @DavidMiller1991 This is Metal Gear REX version 0.1

  • this is the first step to having robotic legs

  • where's my starcraft suit?

  • ops miss spelled a couple words oh well u get my point .......lol

  • problem!!

instead of making the machine move from side to side when it walks, why not make it bed at the knee like a human leg does?! you can stand up in and and sit down, why cant it bed at the knee

AND, can it go any faster, because if it is this slow, its not very practical in the sense that you can not get to places as fast as you need

  • @bozy99 u dont get it do u right now humans dont have the technology to make faster exoskeleton that work exactly like the human body.... the reason it moves side to side like that is cause it "HAS!!!" to balance it self before moving forward..... to make it simple for u to under stand a paraplegic that has absolutely no function in their legs CANT BALANCE on their own wile standing unless they are holding on to something that cant prop them up... just try not using your legs for a day...

  • @vampyvampy wow calm down with the hate!!!!!

first oh yeah we do have the technology to make hydraulics move a lot faster than that

second, if you make the foot of the robot big enough, it will be able to balance on one foot

infact it does it right now, all the makes has to do is make it bed like a leg does instead of sideways

and if you didnt see. the man wasnt balancing, the machine was

the man was just sitting in the chair and has his legs strapped to the machine so they dont just hang

  • a few more years of research and with its hefty price tag to fund it. Later versions of it would probably be much more sleeker and more agile.

  • I hope that technological advancement continues to make progress. In 300 to 500 years one day a doctor may be able to replace a leg with a bionic replacement with ease. I have spinal and knee damage, I would love to be able to ski or play sports again. Maybe in my own lifetime enough advancements will be made, but I am sure I will have a jazzy chair when i am 50. Here's to pimping my chair ;)

  • I don't think my legs can handle the speed of this exoskeleton

  • its gonna take him 10 mins to get across the street

  • once again invented by a new zealander

  • Bravo gentleman. Amazing.

  • Wow

  • People should realize this is just a show-off, its really just to inform people that this stuff is being worked on. The technology is definitely not "practical" yet but you can look at any technology from a few years ago and see how much it can progress.

  • I agree the smile on his face is priceless but you need to understand anyone who is paralyzed and is given the chance to experience the feeling of walking again would have a smile ear to ear. That is more reason why they need to make this type of technology accessible to the masses by making it affordable in the long-term. I know this is only new tech so prices should plummet in the future. The concept has great potential, it just needs lots of work before it can be a viable WC alternative.

  • awesome but can it love?

  • @felphero LMAO

  • The price isn't important, the speed? Who cares. The smile on his face is worth more than all the money on the word. All the years of development are condensed on a few minutes and the biggest and more sincere smile on the word.

  • so happy! GL man!

  • Молодцы

  • The ultimate solution is a biological cure i.e. Steam Cells. This type of technology is a good stopgap until they find a real cure. It's appalling that paralyzed people still have to use wheelchairs in 2010, the wheelchair is old tech that is hardly changed in 1000yrs. As was mentioned earlier this is nothing more than an expensive toy, not at all practical for day to day use. It's a good concept that needs lots more work and a realistic price.

  • wheel chairs are much much much faster

    if i had disables legs

i would much MUCH rather be in a wheelchair

  • @SirNinjaLotBBQ When your disabled, all you'd ever want to do is walk again. You don't know how condescending it is, constantly having people looking down at you.

  • @daproblogger clearly i dont understand

my primary concern would be speed

but that's just me, with 2 feet

  • @SirNinjaLotBBQ You are correct mate, speed is a real issue if you want a practical solution. I am in a wheelchair & can tell you I would much rather get around in a chair then REX. If a person thinks ppl are being "condescending" just because they are in a chair, they need to work on their confidence.People will often portray you the way you portray yourself. I want to walk again but with a realistic wheelchair replacement, hopefully my own legs one day, not some impractical proof of concept.

  • @flickster1980 well im sure its safe to say that this is a good start

  • @daproblogger my deepest apologies

  • Comment removed

  • @flickster1980 This is how consumer technology works:

First generation of the technology is expensive and doesn't work that great, but the rich buy them.

The revenue from those sales gets reinvested into the technology which gets better and cheaper until you end up with a product several generations down the road which is affordable and works well. Example: first cell phones sucked and cost $8000. Saying :"if you really wanted to help a paralysed person" blah blah is nonsense.

  • @check86 Maybe I shouldn't have said 'if they really wanted to help...' but it's not how technology always works. Some companies wont release a product until they believe it is "reasonably" priced for the consumer. This device is not in any way practical for day to day use and way overpriced. The ReWalk is a similar concept, way more practical & only AUS 30k vs 150-170k. If they want to raise funds do it with investors, not exploiting ppl desperate to walk again. This is not market ready.

  • @check86 man you are not lying..well put..thats all greed and evil.. to separate us all..MONEY....seriously....they cant help hunger in America but can send 30000 troops to a country of ppl who arent us..even thou its cool to help.. they world leader only help when it benefits them..and thats the DEVIL..if that cant see then damn..keep up you knowledge status check 86 you on point

  • @check86 but in this day and age of tech, it will not be all too long before it is a practical replacement to the wheelchair

  • @check86

Most paralysed products are generally expensive for no good reason (and I say it as a product designer), but to the paralysed people it is something money cannot buy like "independancy".

But I do agree, Rex would be seen as a introductory product until there are enough "competition" to drive the cost down and up it technology.

BTW product cost are highly depedent on order quantitly and the willingness to change in the manufacturing world.

  • Haha, i love all of the Metal Gear Solid related video's, NZ FTW!

  • this is like the first NES/Famicom

one day it will become a Wii

  • new zealanders are so smart with this type if shit aye

  • soooooooooooo sloooooooooooooooooooooooow

  • Great invention! But the inventors are gonna' be so pissed when someone comes up with a stem cell treatment for people like Hayden to make them able to use their legs without the aid of a robot.

  • This video needs closed captions.

  • yeah go new zealand

  • this is absolutely incredible! every american soldier that lost abilty to walk because of their service should get one of these.

  • Big ups 2 u bro!!!!wicked!

  • A while back they came out with the independance 2000 wheelchair that allowed its users to go up stairs and it would stand on its own wheels for height. That was $10000. No one could afford that ether so it is no longer available now. $150000 is just not realistic.

  • At $150000 they are missing the mark on the people who really need it. Most who suddenly have their life changed by a disability, lose their jobs and income means. I started out with $850 a month to live on and had help paying my Apartment and barely got by. It would put people to work. But its just not affordable.

  • Fantastic, Fantastic, Fatastic! Brought tears to my eyes to watch this and comprehend the incredible benefits this will bring. I'm convinced REX will become as ubiquitous as the wheel chair - congratulations!

  • i need more moneys so i can get one :D

  • it's not a practic invent, but it's a good start

  • @gantzero7 i agree, but the idea its so good. just need upgrade this model making it more efficient

  • Seeing Hayden's smile after using the REX for the first time must have been a very rewarding experience. I get a warm feeling myself when I see him so happy to be standing up; something I admit that I take for granted.

  • Needs a warning label : keep away from evil penguins

  • Fantastic. As this gets refined and speeds up, it should be an amazing improvement in quality of life!

  • Science Rulez!

  • In terms of a really ready and practical aplication this video doesn't show anything... is just a teasing for something that has years ans years of development ahead. I could do such a device in the stage of development that the video shows in six months.

  • Another video chronicles how far we haven't come. This is backwards thinking technology.

  • What a waste. There are many more important things than being able to walk. People putting way too much emphasis on the walking part of paralysis. Could care less if I ever walk again...Give me back my sexual function, bowel and bladder control and at the
