Two of the best guitarist of my generation. Funny story. On the LP Richard Lloyd double tracked his guitar parts and solos for a fuller sound. Wanted Tom to do the same , but , Tom never plays anything the same way once, much less twice. Richard was the precision guy, still is. Tom's the noodler, the go with the flow guy. Together they produced one of the classic LP's of all time. Thanks so much for this vid. Saw them just after they released the last Televsion CD. A most memorable performance.
Yeah, I filmed the popular Marquee Moon clip from the Summer Stage performance. Alright... guess I can't tell the difference in their looks or something, lol
Lloyd was supposed to be at summerstage, but he got "sick".. don't know if that was an excuse or not
You can hear from Verlaine's tone how chunky his strings are. I read somewhere that he uses something like .54-.11.

The Beethovens Fifth of rock music. An orgasmic masterpiece.

@Gilesfly Beethoven's Ninth is way more orgasmic than Beethoven's Fifth, but I take your point.

Who gets to chose which roll of paper sits in with the band just on the side of the cymbal stand every night?
I'd Kill to be that roll of paper!

Aw thanks for this! Was at the gig, one of the highlights of my life seeing the original line-up doing this song. *downloads*

You can actually download from YouTube. Clever person, but how? What software do you use???
Steiner62 3 years ago
Realplayer, it automatically gives you the option to download with basically any video clip on the net once you have it installed. Handy!

This is the video I'd show to anyone to prove why Tom Verlaine should be regarded as one of the guitar greats.
Listening to him play guitar for me is like listening to Miles Davis play trumpet
ahhh lovely

True - but Llyod is no slouch.
ClueSign 3 years ago
Def. True, but I don't think Richard Lloyd was playing here... I think this was Jimmy Ripp that's played w/ the Television line-up for a while now...
TheGreatGallbo 3 years ago
Nope, this guy is Lloyd. You can check out some footage of TV playing at Central Park summer stage last summer (07) to see Ripp.

Television is so great, they don't fit in any musical genre at all, they weren't punk or prog or something, just pure greatness.
