My reaction was based on the fact that your work is in the public sphere, and, despite the fact that it is only YouTube, one is still responsible for the moral impact of the implied message. Your piece is powerful, and that power necessarily affects moral and social behavior, as it were. Critical thinking is about thinking, and not just emotional response. Your piece is both art and commentary.

The presentation is not only sensationalistic, it is also muddled and oppressively unpersuasive. The images cannot simply be juxtaposed and displayed while the music cloyingly plays. What is the specific intent? Is it to horrify; is it argue a point: is it to engender disgust (if so, against whom and for what purpose)?; or, is it simply to sentimentalize and privilege certain concepts over others? As I watch the video, I am struck by the fact that Tricky589 might have better used the money...

i think it is extremely simple to give these people a healthy life, but for some reason we are not shown how easy it is! in both cases people are dying- malnourishment ans over nourishment. We have to give those people food to eat or help them plant trees that bare fruit so they can eat from them, is that too hard to do??

The problem is not that people do not give to these poor nations, it is that these poor nations refuse to alter their way of life. They insist on over-breeding while knowing most of their offspring will die from hunger. Our society has not taken this route which has allowed us to be producers and able to have the life that the others do not. The problem is only solvable if the poor peoples are willing to work to solve it, instead they rely on people like you who will just give to them.

You couldn't be more wrong... Individuals make choices based on their own individual rewards that can come from their choices. People in wealthy countries have no reason to have many children because the cost of having children is too high. You could spend money raising kids, or you could just put it in a retirement fund. People in poor countries must have as many kids as possible because most will die and they need someone to take care of them and carry the family name, etc. Get it?

You defeated your own argument. The cost of raising children is "too high" so the people in poor countries spend more time taking care of more children and not increasing productivity to support those children, hence the mortality rate.

They are scraping by with the children they have but more children require more food. More mouths need more production. It is a simple mathematic gap of available resources with the rate of consumption. See Swift, A Modest Proposal, compare with its setting.

Would it hurt anyone to give a little here and there to help someone else? Thank you for sharing this video. I hope that it will help open peoples eyes if not everyone then at least some.
