realy love listening to you play the guitar is there any way you can send me a slowed down version of cathys song tutorial please it would help me a lot and your version is the best by far on youtube thanks......
hi.. this was one of my favorites years ago.. suddenly, it's been coming back to my mind.. i hope to start to learn it again.. after all those years..thanks a lot for your efforts to give us back the song.. that has touched a lot of my emotions years ago.. i want to go back to my plucking in guitar.. thanks again...
Very good! That's really close. I love this song and it was one of my earliest song on guitar. I got into a bad habit of trying to do it with a Travis Pick.
At last! - An intelligent concise and well presented tutorial for this lovely song. Well done my friend - Keep them coming!!......how about some James Taylor or Mark Knopfler acoustic numbers?
This tutorial is very helpful!! I am a newby with the guitar and I found a lot clearifying information. But, AS you said, If you could e-mail me the patterns will help me a lot. Would you do that please?
Thanks so much for this. Could you post the picking patterns? It is very clever of you to fit all this in to a 4/5 min tutorial. You are clearly an accomplished muscian, but with a lot of practice I hope I can play it as well as you. Sadly my voice isn't as nice as yours though!! With regards from me and the Queen in sunny England!
hej man great video it will help me alot. was wondering if you could send me pickig patterns for kathys song and (if possible) homeward bound, it would be great. thanks man sounds great cant wait to try for meself
I think the Am/G chord is actually with an open B. 3x220x Like the one in April Come She Will. The vocal melody is singing a B right there, so it makes sense and sounds a little better IMO. Thanks for the video!!
bem sou brasileiro, gostei da desmonstração mas não entendi nada. bacana que você tem interese em mostrar e ensinar estas belas canções a todos. Sucesso e Paz. Fica com deus.
i do really thank you for sharing this! for a long time i've tried to play some of simon and garfunkel's songs( i'm a big fan), your way make it very simple to me thanks ;)
Great. But I have to say that I think the Bm sounds a bit off. When I play it I just play the G and then drop the base note from the 3rd to 2nd fret . I also play it with a D note up top instead of the G note . So really from 5th to 2nd string I'm playing almost the same notes from a Bm. Let me know if anyone agrees that this sounds better than the Bm. Maybe I'm wrong? Awesome tutorial. Sorry to knitpick! Thanks.
Im depressed and I wanna learn this song to play to my also depressive girlfriend.. PLEase, can I email you for the tabs or picking patterns? pleasee.. I'm just so unable to concentrate. The tutorial is great I just can't concentrate. please
Hi, the picking pattern Paul uses in the early versions of this song is the Travis picking pattern. If youre trying to play along with the studio version on the Sounds of Silence album he has tuned down 1 semi-tone (half note) to match his voice. A lot of folk songs from the 1960s used the Travis pattern and Kansas uses it in the introduction on Dust In The Wind. There are good examples of how to play it on the web.
I have a couple of questions. At one point with your picking pattern you start using the 6th string, how does the picking pattern go for that in terms of string pattern, and fingers?
And also, can you break down the walk down from C to G after the Bm that way too please?
Really good tutorial, and it sounds beautiful. thanks :D (wouldnt be able to play it without your picking help)
Thank you for explaining about the "rolling pick" pattern for the right hand. I have been playing this song for years in my wierd way, but it never sounded right. You have set me on the right path.
Just started playing guitar just under a year ago. When you say going from a G to a C, I have ahrd time deciffering what exactly your picking. Can you point me in the right direction for maybe an illustration of this? website?
That was an excellent tutorial! I've been practicing with Mark Hanson's Paul Simon book but a book isn't the same as watching somebody actually play the song. Thanks so much for sharing this video. It cleared up the problem I was having with those measures after "like a memory it falls" (Hanson plays a barre Bm and a barre G. Anyway...I get it now! Thanks!!
Thanks so much for this. I just started playing my guitar again after about 20 years. I know with your help, I can learn this song. I never had the confidence that I could do this before! If you have more detail on this tutorial I would appreciate it
this is great, i've been looking for ages for something like this. I love the lost chord the am/d7. i must've played it more times than psimon. do you think there is room in there for a d7 ?(a c7 on the 3rd fret..which is really a d7)one other point..i sometimes think that the d major is too "nice" and it should be another Bm. btw a fantastic perfomance, thanks again
Very well done, thanks a lot. I've been looking for someone who would show me to play Kathy's song for a long time. (P.S.: The chord you called "between A minor and D7" is actually called A minor six (Am6) with an F sharp in the base).
Your tutorial is very much appreciated on this one as it is a song I have have been trying to get right for ages It explains what I need to know very well and I am grateful you are willing to share your expertise with myself and others. Thanks again
