The saying "Throw your hands in the air" originated in the middle ages . The victors of a particularly gruesome battle collected the severed hands of their fallen enemies and when the words (throw your hands in the air) were shouted everyone would throw the hands in the air as a battlefield victory celebration.

Afterwards there would be loud annoying music and they would party like they just didn't care.
