I think it's just irony. The boy shows the old man his wound, then the man launches into a series of horrible stories (he shouldn't even be alive!). Then, after the man's done "bragging" about all of his mistakes, the boy drops dead (beat that, old man!!). :)

Wow, I saw this guy open for Man Man in St. Louis a year or so ago. I loved his set, but kinda forgot about him over the past couple months.. now I rediscover him and he's even better than I remember.
