Bob, I just got the Rezound from Wirefly, and I absolutely love the phone, everything is perfect...somebody mentioned it is not good for skype video calling? Are you kidding me? It is the best video calling ever, I was skyping my mom in Europe she said she felt like I was there next to her...Quick question tho Bob, is it normal for the phone's display to kinda shake at times? Sometimes the display is shaking a little, enough for me to see that...should I be worried? Thank you
@MrOxidius Hmm... the image should shake only when the phone shakes. If you think there might be a problem with the phone, keep in mind that you have 14 days to return it, no questions asked. Beyond that, you have 30 days to return it and get a replacement.
Try it a couple more times and see if it still gives you the shakes.
Kind of fighting between this and the Bionic. Thinking of leaning towards this since it has the 16gb SD card with it and the headphones. Seems to have a little bit better battery, and I guess the display is better.
@ryuman757 The Bionic is a good phone, but the Rezound is better still because of the things you mentioned. All else being equal, I'd go with the Rezound.
HTC should come out with a Rezound Xl with all the same features from maybe upgraded software I would buy it in a heart beat plz HTC think it over I don't care if u up the price a Lil bit
@waheedD12 The Rezound uses an LTE SIM specific to Verizon. It will not work with GSM SIMs, even if the phone is unlocked. It's a completely different technology.
Thank you for this video. I just ordered this phone and will get it in a few days. I really like how you broke everything down and explained it. Its was very helpful to me. Thanks again.
Bob,couple of questions for you...Let's say I am getting a 4GB data pack for the REzound, and also The V CAST Videos On Demand that cost $10(unlimited basic video clips)...so my question is, will those unlimited videos on demand that I paid $10 for "drain" of my 4GB data plan or not...also, what about Netflix as an application?
I would also like to ask if Skype is compatible with the Rezound???
@PhillieBRidin The Sprint version of the Samsung Galaxy S II (called the Epic 4G Touch) is the highest-scoring phone I've tested to date. It had the highest score by far on Quadrant, and had the highest I've seen by a small margin on AnTuTu. At least one reason why the Epic 4G Touch scores so well is its comparatively low display resolution (480x800). It still looks and runs great!
@KittehOfDeath Yes, you can make video calls using the front camera. I don't know for sure if Skype works with the Rezound for video chat, but at least a couple other apps do.
@Linkmystinkydink Please forgive me, as I have explained this a hundred times in these comments and in the videos...
No. The Rezound has LTE technology that is not the same as the GSM technology that AT&T (and T-Mobile) uses. It is not compatible, even if the phone is unlocked.
You have to be 18 at a verizon store as well. The easy thing would be to give my parents the money and they could buy it with a credit card. If Im already on a contract and Im ready for an upgrade, can I just buy it for the listed Wirefly price and go to verizon to get it activated? I want to save as much as I can so I can get an otterbox and still end up $90 ahead of regular Verizon price!
@GambizzleMyNizzle Why not give your parents the money and have them buy it from Wirefly? Wirefly will activate it on Verizon and the plan will cost the same as it will from Verizon. You/they can call Wirefly at 800-552-9000 and discuss the costs, etc.
I know. I was just looking at wirefly.com and saw the to low to show price, but Im 15 and have to buy my own phone and have no way of buying with a credit card or anything. How exactly does the billing and everything work with my Verizon contract?
@GambizzleMyNizzle When you buy a phone from Wirefly, you pay Wirefly for whatever the listed phone cost is. Then your monthly payments are made to Verizon, just as you always have.
I just spoke to our customer service people, who told me that you have to be 18 to buy from Wirefly. That's because getting cell service involves signing a contract.
I've heard the only bad thing about this is the battery. I honestly have no problem with a low battery. I get about 2 hours on my Droid. I've seen all your shmackdowns with the rezound and it looks great for a $199 phone. Should I get this phone?
@GambizzleMyNizzle Yes, I think the Rezound is one of the two or three best phones available. And as for the price, you can get it for a lot less than $200 at Wirefly if you go with a new 2-year contract.
@wirefly If I upgrade my EnV touch to the Rezound from Wirefly, will it be cheaper from you guys than my local verizon? And if it is, can I activate it under Verizon?
@BuckeyeBowers Buying a phone from Wirefly almost always costs less than buying the same phone from Verizon. Wirefly can activate the phone for you on Verizon... in fact, you'll have to let Wirefly activate it for you. The monthly fee on Verizon will be the same whether you get the phone from Verizon or Wirefly, so you might as well save on the cost and get it from Wirefly.
@BuckeyeBowers I don't know why not... Wirefly adds phones to family plans all the time. Check on Wirefly, and if you can't figure it out, call the 800 number and speak to some one. It should be possible.
hey bob whats going on, i just got question to ask you, what do you like better the HTC scenes or the droid razr user interface? i just bought a droid razr when the contract on my evo 4g ran out and i find that the droid razr interface sucks when compared to HTC scenes interface, what do you think?
@shizzel122 I like HTC's Sense user interface for a couple different reasons. I have to say that I'm not really a power user, so I can understand when some people prefer pure Android or a less-obtrusive UI than Sense. But as a normal user, I like the way Sense works.
@MrLarryBurd The Rezound is good for talk quality and texts. Every bit of high-tech gear will have its quirks but the Rezound is pretty solid. It's a little heavy for some people and the battery life might fall short if you are demanding, but there are extended batteries. The display really is excellent.
in the unboxing video i heard you said that it required a lte sim card.what is the difference between a normal sim card and a lte sim card? also does the sensation xe with beats audio require a lte sim card?
@musicmaniac828 The LTE SIM card is specific to Verizon in the US. The Rezound is locked to Verizon and requires an LTE SIM to operate. No other SIM will work, even if the Rezound is unlocked. I am not familiar with the Sensation XE, but it will probably work with any GSM SIM that has data capability.
Bob, I respect your work a lot, and I am getting this phone for sure...The only doubt I have is getting it from your website or verizon...What are the advantages and disadvantages of buying this phone from WireFly or Verizon...I can see you sell it half the price of Verizon, but I'm not sure about the plans...Sell me the product Bob, I'm waiting to hear from you...keep up the good work
@MrOxidius Wirefly sells phone for prices that are usually a lot less than the carriers. such as Verizon. The plans you get through Wirefly are exactly the same plans you get through the carrier, for the same price. In other words, through Wirefly you pay less up front and have the same monthly payment. It's as simple as that.
I have had a unlimited 3g plan for close to 2 years and am upgrading soon and most likely getting the rezound. I am really trying not to cause any conflict on my plan seeing as the unlimited 3g option is no longer available. When i go to get it can i keep the 3g package and what do i do about the 4g lte? Thanks
@r0cking4life It's mu understanding that you are "grandfathered in" with respect to unlimited data. If you upgrade to the Rezound, you should get unlimited 4G. However, you should check with Verizon to confirm that.
@wirefly If i am grandfathered in and get unlimited 4g will i keep unlimited 3g as well? i dont know if id want to solely rely on 4g seeing as coverage isint close to 3g in my area.
@r0cking4life Yes, my understanding is that if you have unlimited data (3G and/or 4G), you are grandfathered in. You should be able to move from 3G to 4G coverage areas and back again with no penalty. Again, I recommend that you check with Verizon to confirm... the data service comes from Verizon and not Wirefly.
@r0cking4life just make sure you get the phone before anything and DONT DISCONNECT your old phone until you have the new phone in your hands and just activate the other phone and everything will be OK ...you will have your unlimited 4g Data please contact me if you have any questions
@probowl2 I think that the original DROID RAZR has a bit better battery life than the Rezound. To be honest, I didn't give either phone much of a battery-life shakedown, so that's just my seat-of-the-pants experience.
@Skeong94 I have not seen the HTC Sensation XE, as it is not sold in the US. My understanding is that it does not have the Rezound's pretty 720p display, but that's really about all I know.
@bjenks7 I asked people here at Wirefly and the answer I got is that you will not pay more for 4G if you currently have a 3G smartphone with an unlimited plan. However, I advise you to check with Verizon to confirm. Ultimately, your contract is with Verizon and there may be a hoop or two to jump through in order to keep your unlimited plan.
@xxsamplextextxx Yes, there will be an activation fee regardless of where you buy it. Wirefly (and other vendors) occasionally have free activation periods for Verizon, but we're not having one now and I don't know of any that are planned.
Free activation is a nice deal if you can time your purchase to get it.
First, do you have a "messaging" phone or a smartphone (such as an Android phone)? If you have 3G on a messaging phone, you will pay extra to get 4G.
I asked people here at Wirefly and the answer I got is that you will not pay more for 4G if you currently have a 3G smartphone. However, I advise you to check with Verizon to confirm.
You're in Reston! I live in Herndon! Anyway, I have a Droid Incredible and am eligible for an upgrade. Should I go with the Rezound or the Galaxy Nexus? Hardware wise, I am led to believe the Rezound is better, but does it actually perform better than the Galaxy Nexus? Through use, which phone is faster?
@WoWplayer13 The Rezound and Galaxy Nexus are both nice phones. Not everything is optimized yet for Android 4, so somethings don't work as well on the Galaxy Nexus at it will once the app is updated. (Examples are benchmark testing apps.) I like the larger AMOLED display on the Galaxy Nexus, and Android 4 is the future. So that's my choice.
@th3jew The quality of a video on YouTube will never be as good as the quality of the original video. I show the video so that I can discuss it intelligently with viewers.
@wirefly Well where i can understand that i know that youtube will stream at 1080p where as this review video will only play at 720p so where talking about a significant drop in clarity, so in essence showing that video did very little to actually showcase the effect of it. to me it just seemed like a useless gesture. part of it to pry has to do with what you have at your disposal at your place of work. it just doesn't do the product justice to put up a video when the upload file doesn't match.
@th3jew I show the video to demonstrate the audio quality as much as the video quality. And if you know what to look for, you can see important image factors regardless of the resolution. Between the compression caused when my editing software renders the file and the subsequent processing by YouTube, the quality of all these images is not as good as the original. But it's still worthwhile to show for both audio and video.
@wirefly Thanks, ill have to look into them. i have the rezound and would love to know when 4.0 (ICS) will be comeing to it. all ii know is it will be sometime in this years first quarter
So does this phone have a notification light built into it to blink when you get a text, call etc...?? Or do you have to buy the charm to have a notification light?
@lawlbiker The Rezound has a notification light to tell you if you have a voice message or a text. I don't know if you can get it to blink, but the light is darn handy to have.
@cherbearcares At the moment, the Rezound comes with Android 2.3. HTC has the Rezound on a list to get an update to Android 4, but there is no date or procedure for that to occur, yet. All I know about that is what I read in the blogs.
@XBOXNationTVHD You want to give me a 2013 Ford Focus in exchange for a Rezound? I you put the funds for the Focus in an escrow account, I'll send you five brand new Rezounds. How's that sound?
@memkills I looked around some and am pretty sure that the Rezound's camera has an iris, which will control the depth of field. Although the lens has an aperture of f2.2, the iris will allow you to take shots at f16 or even f22. As far as I know, iris control is automatic and it can't be manually controlled.
i didn't purchase the galaxy nexus cuz i don't want to support what they are doing with the phone. they skimped on hardware and pushed the software as the selling point. this will force you to buy ANOTHER phone later on just to keep up. I rather buy a phone with great hardware and get the software later or get it myself.. i dont want to support samsung and google's planned obsolescense.
@brenlwood HTC has said that the Rezound will be updated to Android 4, but there is no definite date for that. All I know about it is what I read in the blogs, and they say to expect Android 4 for the Rezound by the end of March 2012.
@wirefly That didnt really answer my question? What i mean is, will the phone that i already have purchased upgrade when HTC upgrades the phone? Like will there be something i need to download on the phone to upgrade from gingerbread to android 4?
@brenlwood Sorry, but I can't really answer your question. I do not have any official information from HTC or Verizon regarding an update to Android 4. All I know is what I read in the blogs, and they say that HTC has put the Rezound on a list to be updated to Android 4. How and when that will happen are not yet known, not by me anyway. It may be an OTA update, or you may have to take your phone to Verizon... don't know yet.
@wirefly ya hahahaha ive watched it but i ended up with the rezound. Im fine with waiting some time to get to android 4.0 plus i like the beats with the rezound. Anyways love your vids! they always help
@TheGuyThatJerks Umm... old enough to know better than to answer that question! If you Google around some, you'll get a good idea. I'm the guy that writes magazine articles about radio, television and Porsches.
seems most of the specs are similar to that of sensation XE. The only thing i want about this phone is its 1GB ram. Damn htc, when will you make GSM versions of this kind...
No Sensation XE? -__- I am sooo pissed at HTC for only releasing this HD Sensation XE version exclusively for Verizon. They coulda atleast gave the Rezound a SIM card slot for it to be unlocked. F*CK!!!
@myfuckyouflipflops Something might be in the works regarding this. Verizon is set to launch two new 4G phones: the LG Spectrum and the Motorola DROID 4. Both those have a SIM slot for LTE service, and Verizon is saying that both will have global roaming (GSM) capability in a few months. Since LTE is an amped-up version of GSM, I wonder if they are working on making LTE phones be operational in GSM regions.
So when it says "new acount" on your website, I'm assuming that means someone who hasn't had a contract with that carrier before? What if I did, but now I'm off contract because I completed my two years? Is there a different price in that case and is it also listed on the site?
@FlukeWinner If you are still a Verizon customer, paying month-to-month, you are considered (by Verizon) to be an upgrade customer. Unfortunately, the Rezound is quite a bit more expensive for "upgrades" than it is for "new" customers. You can cancel your current number and get a new number, then you'll be a "new" customer and get the great price. BTW, this is a Verizon definition - Wirefly just passes along Verizon's requirements.
I had a dream I had this phone, maaaaannn it seemed so damn real, then I had to go to the bathroom and was awaken to my harsh reality.... I mean my droid x.
@slip9sic The Rezound has some big advantages over the DROID Incredible 2, which is actually a pretty good phone. If you have Verizon's LTE in your area, you really will want the speed of the Rezound. If you don't have 4G, then maybe you can live without the Rezound's superb display and nice audio features. Wirefly would choose the Rezound, but not everyone is Wirefly.
Bob, you weren't joking. I bought two Rezound's from Wirefly and the price and service was incredible. I even got two free mini bluetooth headsets for free. Can't believe I got better prices than Amazon Wireless. I will return for an upgrade in 18 months.
@gbekaryan No, I definitely wasn't joking. Not only is the Rezound at a crazy price on Wirefly at the moment, but you can use coupon code YOUTUBEBLUE12 to get a free Plantronics bluetooth headset. Be sure to use all capital letters when asked for the coupon code. It's a great deal.
ur very nice :)

Yes, data charges apply when using V CAST Videos."

Thanks
r0cking4life 1 month ago
@r0cking4life It's mu understanding that you are "grandfathered in" with respect to unlimited data. If you upgrade to the Rezound, you should get unlimited 4G. However, you should check with Verizon to confirm that.

wirefly 1 month ago
@wirefly If i am grandfathered in and get unlimited 4g will i keep unlimited 3g as well? i dont know if id want to solely rely on 4g seeing as coverage isint close to 3g in my area.
Thanks for all the help.
r0cking4life 3 weeks ago
@r0cking4life Yes, my understanding is that if you have unlimited data (3G and/or 4G), you are grandfathered in. You should be able to move from 3G to 4G coverage areas and back again with no penalty. Again, I recommend that you check with Verizon to confirm... the data service comes from Verizon and not Wirefly.

@r0cking4life just make sure you get the phone before anything and DONT DISCONNECT your old phone until you have the new phone in your hands and just activate the other phone and everything will be OK ...you will have your unlimited 4g Data please contact me if you have any questions

which battery life do you think is better? the htc rezound or regular razr not the razr maxx?
probowl2 1 month ago
@probowl2 Razar has a bigger battery.
xxsamplextextxx 1 month ago
@probowl2 I think that the original DROID RAZR has a bit better battery life than the Rezound. To be honest, I didn't give either phone much of a battery-life shakedown, so that's just my seat-of-the-pants experience.

I've got a question: can you use HTC Rezound with 3G/UMTS? Thanks

@wirefly is this phone better than HTC sensation XE ? im not sure which phone i should get though.
Skeong94 1 month ago
@Skeong94 I have not seen the HTC Sensation XE, as it is not sold in the US. My understanding is that it does not have the Rezound's pretty 720p display, but that's really about all I know.

@wirefly yes, I have a droid 2 with unlimited 3G, so if I upgrade to this, I won't have to pay anything extra for unlimited 4g?
bjenks7 1 month ago
@bjenks7 I asked people here at Wirefly and the answer I got is that you will not pay more for 4G if you currently have a 3G smartphone with an unlimited plan. However, I advise you to check with Verizon to confirm. Ultimately, your contract is with Verizon and there may be a hoop or two to jump through in order to keep your unlimited plan.

If I buy this through wirefly is there an activation fee, Bob?
xxsamplextextxx 1 month ago
@xxsamplextextxx Yes, there will be an activation fee regardless of where you buy it. Wirefly (and other vendors) occasionally have free activation periods for Verizon, but we're not having one now and I don't know of any that are planned.
Free activation is a nice deal if you can time your purchase to get it.

@wirefly I have unlimited 3G on my phone right now. If I get this phone, will I have to pay extra for unlimited 4g?
bjenks7 1 month ago
@bjenks7 That's ultimately up to Verizon.

WoWplayer13 1 month ago
@WoWplayer13 The Rezound and Galaxy Nexus are both nice phones. Not everything is optimized yet for Android 4, so somethings don't work as well on the Galaxy Nexus at it will once the app is updated. (Examples are benchmark testing apps.) I like the larger AMOLED display on the Galaxy Nexus, and Android 4 is the future. So that's my choice.

Ok... so your trying to show us a video thats recorded at a higher resolution then youtube wants to play it at?
th3jew 1 month ago
@th3jew The quality of a video on YouTube will never be as good as the quality of the original video. I show the video so that I can discuss it intelligently with viewers.
Bob at Wirefly
wirefly 1 month ago
@wirefly Well where i can understand that i know that youtube will stream at 1080p where as this review video will only play at 720p so where talking about a significant drop in clarity, so in essence showing that video did very little to actually showcase the effect of it. to me it just seemed like a useless gesture. part of it to pry has to do with what you have at your disposal at your place of work. it just doesn't do the product justice to put up a video when the upload file doesn't match.
th3jew 1 month ago
@th3jew I show the video to demonstrate the audio quality as much as the video quality. And if you know what to look for, you can see important image factors regardless of the resolution. Between the compression caused when my editing software renders the file and the subsequent processing by YouTube, the quality of all these images is not as good as the original. But it's still worthwhile to show for both audio and video.

@memkills There is no optical zoom, but I don't know if there is an iris to control the aperture. I'll sniff around to see what I can find.
Bob at Wirefly
wirefly 1 month ago
@memkills I looked around some and am pretty sure that the Rezound's camera has an iris, which will control the depth of field. Although the lens has an aperture of f2.2, the iris will allow you to take shots at f16 or even f22. As far as I know, iris control is automatic and it can't be manually controlled.
Bob at Wirefly

@wirefly okay thats kewl i guess the iris was a smaller alternative when making a phone camera. but thats good to know that will change its aperture.

If i bought this phone now while its running on gingerbread or whatever? Will my phone upgrade when HTC upgrades there phones to ICS?
brenlwood 1 month ago
@brenlwood HTC has said that the Rezound will be updated to Android 4, but there is no definite date for that. All I know about it is what I read in the blogs, and they say to expect Android 4 for the Rezound by the end of March 2012.
Bob at Wirefly
wirefly 1 month ago
@wirefly That didnt really answer my question? What i mean is, will the phone that i already have purchased upgrade when HTC upgrades the phone? Like will there be something i need to download on the phone to upgrade from gingerbread to android 4?
brenlwood 1 month ago
@brenlwood Sorry, but I can't really answer your question. I do not have any official information from HTC or Verizon regarding an update to Android 4. All I know is what I read in the blogs, and they say that HTC has put the Rezound on a list to be updated to Android 4. How and when that will happen are not yet known, not by me anyway. It may be an OTA update, or you may have to take your phone to Verizon... don't know yet.

zidanefreya88 1 month ago
No Sensation XE? -__- I am sooo pissed at HTC for only releasing this HD Sensation XE version exclusively for Verizon. They coulda atleast gave the Rezound a SIM card slot for it to be unlocked. F*CK!!!
myfuckyouflipflops 1 month ago

FlukeWinner 1 month ago
@FlukeWinner If you are still a Verizon customer, paying month-to-month, you are considered (by Verizon) to be an upgrade customer. Unfortunately, the Rezound is quite a bit more expensive for "upgrades" than it is for "new" customers. You can cancel your current number and get a new number, then you'll be a "new" customer and get the great price. BTW, this is a Verizon definition - Wirefly just passes along Verizon's requirements.

slip9sic 1 month ago
@slip9sic The Rezound has some big advantages over the DROID Incredible 2, which is actually a pretty good phone. If you have Verizon's LTE in your area, you really will want the speed of the Rezound. If you don't have 4G, then maybe you can live without the Rezound's superb display and nice audio features. Wirefly would choose the Rezound, but not everyone is Wirefly.
