  • Fantistic

  • your pics in natural light seem very balanced and ... well not like natural light pictures! :-)

    good work good eye

  • I really like the colors in your shots. Were any filters used and what white balance/post processing color adjustment did you do?

Btw, great informative Video! I definitely want to try the use another flash for rim light, loving the effect it had in your shots.

  • is this the last episode? :(

  • I like youre pics and vids Bertstephani -- more like this please -- It enspires me to shoot more , and to bring my flashes with me more often---- cheer's from BC,Canada

  • zeer leuke serie

  • Makes me want to head to Belgium to be his assistant for a day...these videos are so helpful. Just wish I had the lighting gear he has, though he does do awesome stuff with ambient.

  • Supposedly the last video from the series :(

  • Thanks for this vid, I'm a student and have a shoot in the woods coming up. So it's good to see how you've handled it. The darkening of the background and using an umbrella and rim light is fantastic!!!

  • I've seen all your videos and still can't stop watching it all over again. Great stuff you got there! Hope to see more. I'm a big fan~

  • I am amzaed at how simple you make it all look what great pictures and a great talent.

  • I Love your videos! Thanks for all the tipps, exactly that what i searched for. but how much power should the flashgun have for the umbrella? Is a Sunpak AF4000 enough?

  • Great stuff, thanks for posting!

  • awesome pics

  • good !

  • Great video, the images came out beautiful !

I love the one at 2:32 the best

  • I love 1:45

  • Bummer that you shee the 'shadow' of the flash at 1.43

And with shadow i mean the light spill over the edge of the umbrella. I would've backed it up a bit even though the light would get harsher.

  • damn good stuff

  • i really enjoy these videos and hope to see more , and maybe some more photoshop tutorials

  • the way you present this makes me think that none of the shots you take are bad

  • i like 2:31

  • I second that. These videos are not only stunning but also helpful. Do you do post processing and what F stop do you usually use?

  • thanks for posting

  • I love the way you shoot! I have a Nikon d40 and would like to do some shooting like this. What do I need to take pictures like this? I know my camera is not as good as yours and I only have a have a 18-55mm lens.

  • SreyHooHoo, first of all you need Canon :D throw away Nikon!

  • Please I cant see what camera he uses , lens , etc , someone help me ? : > ()

  • He has an episode specifically talking about his gears. See: Confessions of a photographer- Episode 06

  • i think its a canon 1d mk3 and a canon 1ds mk2

  • Your correct i looked them up as soon as he finished talking about them

  • Nice! However his posture will hurt him one day....

  • thanks for this really like the work you put in

  • Great shots from a great photographer ;)

I love your usage of small flashes and white balance settings to get the "exclusive" kinda look ;) !

  • Loved those 3 last pics, so sensitive!

  • is this shot from raw or jpeg

  • I think these photos are my favorite of his, its just amazing what he can get out of just a plain ol forest. he says he doesnt like post-processing but it seems like thats one of his strongest points. i'd really like to know what he does on photoshop

  • Why would you assume there is a lot of Photoshop work going on? These are just very well lit shots. If you know your equipment and how to shoot you can get amazing stuff without a lot of retouching. Try this, plan a shoot and commit yourself to NOT using any post-processing. See what you get.

I did it and now try to get everything in camera.

  • He uses photoshop in his postprocessing. Don't get me wrong, its very good and he apparently only uses it scarcely, but no camera is that smart to get that kind of tonal range in only the right spots. I rarely use photoshop and get close to this, but there are colors and lighting in there that are not natural.

  • Photography is art though, so it's all up to the photographer to choose how he or she wants the image to turn out.

  • what did you do to the last images to make them look more yellow/brown?

i guess that wasn't the natural color?

  • It looks as if he edits his photos before posting because I've seen some colors in the photo that didn't look so natural and I know the camera isn't THAT intelligent to make a photo look like that.

  • Wow, great series. Very informative.

  • did this photo re touched or not? photo wonderful

  • One of the few with good quality. Thanks for your vids!

  • thanks for sharing..

    keep it coming dude.. :)

  • 2:30 Dior ad !!

this is really wonderful, good job and thanks for sharing mate :)

  • Thx for all the comments

@rmstudio: I respect your opinion just like any one else's. I, for one, like the poses and the flare was left in on purpose. I just can 't remember saying I don't do postprocessing. I just said I'm not a big photoshopper, meaning I don't spend hours in photoshop. None of these images spent more than 5 minutes in photoshop. Call me a bad photographer if you want, but don't call me a liar. I just wanted to point out that cloning out flashes is something I usually don't do

  • too bad we had to wait so long for only a 3 min vid!! but it's still great!! keep up the good work and the videoblog.. great photos bert!

  • rm, he said he isn't a big fan of photoshop. i know it's obvious some colour correction has been done, but he may not be the one that does it. as I'm sure you know, some photographers have assistants who do the post processing for them. it's safe to say though that most good photographers like to get their desired look in camera.

  • rm, I can already tell you're a huge hack. if you actually were in the business, like you claim, you would know that many famous photographers don't do their own post. Greg Gorman, Annie Liebowitz, James Natcheway, none of them do their own post, someone who specializes in that does it. They still direct the post, they just don't physically do it.

  • Learn to read you dope.. refrence to Trantz.. What does my message say. What does it say its telling how stupid the comment which was someone giving the "Excuse" that its photoshoped because the Assistant did or took it upon himself to do.. As to say that was the reason for the photoshop. And what did I say? What the photographer doesnt control what is done or not done in post? Duh I know People like Greg Gorman "Who I have been in his studio in L.A." so please..

  • @rmstudio "A man is just a product of his thoughts, what he thinks he becomes"

  • thanks for sharing

  • Erika is so beautiful! ...the darkened background photos are really interesting. Great video,

    Cheers,

  • I am sorry rm, but stating your opinion as fact is pretty pompous. Are you a teacher of some sort? What is it about the Internet, that everybody seems to become the 2nd H-C-B.

  • What you said is not "true", but your opinion. Others might like the poses the Models are in. Afaik, Bert is an pro that is doing pretty well, so he must do something right.

  • Photography, like most things in Life is not an computer program, where only "true" and "false" exist.

Other than that, I like people that are willing to take a little flak, but imho most people would chose their words different, when they wold talk face to face with another.

You should not hide behind that "I just tell people the truth, unlike anyone else" attitude.

    Cheers, Kuang

  • Congratulations.

  • The color, DoF, framing, all great, always fun to watch confessions!

  • nice available light shots!

  • amazing as always Bert. your work is an inspiration.

  • Curious about exposure (if you would be willing). I heard you say "flash at full power" on the previous video but is that true on all the shots? With that harsh lighting, what was the exposure setting then? 2.8 at 1/250?

  • great vids ;D

  • keep'em coming bert! U are an amazing photographer!!!!

  • Amazing work! <3 v v

  • dont u need an assistant? lol

  • stunning shots!!!!!!!
