Where's is episode 9 to endless .... please. Give me more, 'cause you have make me addicted to your work. I love it that much. Thanks for giving me so much with that great movies.
I, for one, would like to thank you for sharing these valuable lessons. I think you're a great photographer. I feel I have learned a lot thanks to your videos. I hope you continue sharing. Once again, thank you.
I like youre pics and vids Bertstephani -- more like this please -- It enspires me to shoot more , and to bring my flashes with me more often---- cheer's from BC,Canada
Makes me want to head to Belgium to be his assistant for a day...these videos are so helpful. Just wish I had the lighting gear he has, though he does do awesome stuff with ambient.
Thanks for this vid, I'm a student and have a shoot in the woods coming up. So it's good to see how you've handled it. The darkening of the background and using an umbrella and rim light is fantastic!!!
I Love your videos! Thanks for all the tipps, exactly that what i searched for. but how much power should the flashgun have for the umbrella? Is a Sunpak AF4000 enough?
I love the way you shoot! I have a Nikon d40 and would like to do some shooting like this. What do I need to take pictures like this? I know my camera is not as good as yours and I only have a have a 18-55mm lens.
I think these photos are my favorite of his, its just amazing what he can get out of just a plain ol forest. he says he doesnt like post-processing but it seems like thats one of his strongest points. i'd really like to know what he does on photoshop
Why would you assume there is a lot of Photoshop work going on? These are just very well lit shots. If you know your equipment and how to shoot you can get amazing stuff without a lot of retouching. Try this, plan a shoot and commit yourself to NOT using any post-processing. See what you get.
He uses photoshop in his postprocessing. Don't get me wrong, its very good and he apparently only uses it scarcely, but no camera is that smart to get that kind of tonal range in only the right spots. I rarely use photoshop and get close to this, but there are colors and lighting in there that are not natural.
It looks as if he edits his photos before posting because I've seen some colors in the photo that didn't look so natural and I know the camera isn't THAT intelligent to make a photo look like that.
thank you so much for sharing. i am always excited to see new videos on your channel. You are an inspiration. Please, keep up the good work and please, keep sharing :)
I really like these videos. Don't stop making them, they rock. Also you say your not a big photoshop guy, but alot of your pics look a little desaturated and have really great color. Is that from ur camera settings or a weeeeee bit o' photoshop?
Bert, I've been waiting for this final installment for quite sometime and I must say it's really worth the wait. You're a very kind man. I'll be waiting for your future releases. Thanks!
Bert, each video that you post is a pleasure to watch, because of the setups that you show, because of your comments. Also, because of the gingle you start each of your video with.... Where did you find it ??? Anyway, it is now Bert's signature !
@rmstudio: I respect your opinion just like any one else's. I, for one, like the poses and the flare was left in on purpose. I just can 't remember saying I don't do postprocessing. I just said I'm not a big photoshopper, meaning I don't spend hours in photoshop. None of these images spent more than 5 minutes in photoshop. Call me a bad photographer if you want, but don't call me a liar. I just wanted to point out that cloning out flashes is something I usually don't do
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I never said you were a "Bad" photographer. That you reading into something. Poses you may like but I dont think were great and you were not directing the model very well. No problem thats just because you havent had the time to learn that yet. No big deal everyone was at that stage at some point. Okay techinically you were not lying as you stating now but it was a bit "Misleading"so to speak by saying what you said about photoshop. But now you are being more clear in what your saying about Post
rm, he said he isn't a big fan of photoshop. i know it's obvious some colour correction has been done, but he may not be the one that does it. as I'm sure you know, some photographers have assistants who do the post processing for them. it's safe to say though that most good photographers like to get their desired look in camera.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
So the assistant is the one in control of the vision an entire outlook? Very weak.. your saying this and thats even at best you guessing? LoL.........
rm, I can already tell you're a huge hack. if you actually were in the business, like you claim, you would know that many famous photographers don't do their own post. Greg Gorman, Annie Liebowitz, James Natcheway, none of them do their own post, someone who specializes in that does it. They still direct the post, they just don't physically do it.
Learn to read you dope.. refrence to Trantz.. What does my message say. What does it say its telling how stupid the comment which was someone giving the "Excuse" that its photoshoped because the Assistant did or took it upon himself to do.. As to say that was the reason for the photoshop. And what did I say? What the photographer doesnt control what is done or not done in post? Duh I know People like Greg Gorman "Who I have been in his studio in L.A." so please..
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Good post production but in the images watch your models poses. Dont be someone that shoots fish in a barrel. Direct your models but that is a skill in itself and takes "Time" to do. Also watch your "Lens Flare" at 1:20 Also lets be honest here. There is plenty Photoshop going on here. Dont say your not a fan of it or dont use it because its very clear in the images that you do use it. Or Some form of photoshop to post production.
I am sorry rm, but stating your opinion as fact is pretty pompous. Are you a teacher of some sort? What is it about the Internet, that everybody seems to become the 2nd H-C-B.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
So what am I supposed to state things that are not in fact true to spare someone their feelings. Everything I said was very true and indeed correct.. Pompous to me is making such a statement as saying "I dont like to photoshop" when its so so clear he is being dishonest. Do you want to learn something or do you want a "Make me feel good".. Sorry I say it like it is. Its called the truth.. And stand by it. Been at this full time for a living for 17rs. Teaching are is for those that didnt make it.
What you said is not "true", but your opinion. Others might like the poses the Models are in. Afaik, Bert is an pro that is doing pretty well, so he must do something right.
Photography, like most things in Life is not an computer program, where only "true" and "false" exist.
Other than that, I like people that are willing to take a little flak, but imho most people would chose their words different, when they wold talk face to face with another.
You should not hide behind that "I just tell people the truth, unlike anyone else" attitude.
Curious about exposure (if you would be willing). I heard you say "flash at full power" on the previous video but is that true on all the shots? With that harsh lighting, what was the exposure setting then? 2.8 at 1/250?
