@anaptyras only warning at the price you're probably going to get better performance from intel, but the processor works great, and has decent enough performance.
@bronxvirus honestly not sure - at stock speeds it'd likely be a close fight with the Phenom having the advantage, though I'd suspect that the FX would overclock better and potentially perform better in very heavily multithreaded applications.
@MyThePooP depends what price you can get it. in the uk now I can get it for 105 pounds. The intels that cost 105 here are the i3-2120 which does not have overclocking unless you buy a motherboard that has a core unlocker but they cost a bomb so people dont bother. In tests on cpu benchmark website the 6100 scores 5713 standard and 7737 overclocked. The intel i3 scores a rubbish 4200.
@MyThePooP I've had good results with it. It's not the best in terms of instructions-per-cycle, but it clocks really quick and overclocks well. It's not as good as say, a Core i5, but it's certainly good enough to get the job done.
@switchblade1291 the BIOS stepping I had was - I double checked with my vendor (NCIX) in advance. I think Gigabyte swapped the boards for vendors in august with boards with the newer BIOSes to prevent issues, so if you ordered / bought before august/september I'd be unsure. Newer releases are fine. If you already have it running with a Phenom or whatever you can flash to a new bios pretty easily.
alright cool hahah i was being idiotic last night and i purchased all the parts i needed for a complete computer build from newegg without researching on the motherboard. then a friend of mine mentioned alot of am3+ motherboards are shipping without out of box support and i was like o shit and hopped on here and tried to find some info. i am very appreciative of your fast reply thank you so much! its my first actual desktop and also my first build so im not very good at all the computer stuff.
im going to wait till amd new motherboards design to come out later this year everyone say fx suck and id get ready for there new motherboard ready this year l
i had my friends dad who works on computers all the time attach it correctly... but from what ive read amd heatsinks are very crappy and is recommended to get an aftermarket heatsink to go with it considering their stock heatsinks are very bad. so,last question, would this work? better then the hyper 212 +?
SUCH A SHITTY PROCESSOR! DO NOT BUY IT! IT CRAPS OUT AFTER A MONTH AND DOES NOT ALLOW YOU TO PLAY ANY I REPEAT, ANY GAMES ON MAX SETTINGS... IT BOTTLENECKS THE FUCK OUT OF YOUR GPU. HORRIBLE PROCESSOR, SAVE UP $40 FOR A I5 2500K SANDYBRIDE YOU WONT REGRET IT.
@kendog0013 Troll elsewhere. a 2500K is indeed a better processor, but no reports suggest a high failure rate, and I've been running everything I own on max settings. Nothing suggests that the FX-6100 has been a bottleneck to any current GPU. Its primary issues are power consumption and low IPC - but those are known and dont imply any of the failures you're farting out.
@pikaporeon tbh.. it really DOES bottleneck the CPU especially on CPU intense games like WoW... its is VERY hard to get max settings on it with an HD 6590 2gb VRAM OC... idk how you work yours but so far all mine has done has caused me grief and less then max settings on WoW with 40fps... its horrible.
@kendog0013 A 6590 or a 6950? The former if it exists sounds mid/lowend and shitty, though if you have a 6950 then I'd suggest you probably have a different point of failure - I've had no issues running Skyrim on ultra and it's fairly CPU intensive, certainly moreso than WoW - I'd check your configuration because WOW can run on almost anything without the CPU being a bottleneck.
@pikaporeon i mean 6950, sorry... but seriously... its getting kind of annoying considering i bought this processor BELIEVING it could play WoW at max settings in pair with an HIS 6950 2GB VRAM... im only getting 50fps in most places and 15fps(pathetic) in 25 man raids.... i just dont believe it would be my GPU.... it seems more CPU sided considering W7 doesnt support bulldozer yet :(
@kendog0013 Check your CPU heatsink - it may be temperature-throttling. Other than that it's potentially your network. You could max out WoW on a dual core.
@pikaporeon yeah... using the stock heatsink? could that be why? can u recommend a good one for a Gigabyte 990XA-UD3 MOBO? sorry for raging in the beginning im just upset getting such low fps.. i know my GPU gets up to 78 celsius and my cpu gets to about 84. Please let me know because if i can fix it, it would save me $300 from having to buy an intel 2500k (since newegg wont take it back(HAHA))
@kendog0013 if your CPU is getting to 84 thats def the problem. The max operating temp is 70 C, so maybe your heatsink is mounted loose. The low FPS would be because the processor auto-slows itself down at load to make sure it doesn't overheat at that temp. Make sure the heatsink is set well and you should be fine. Im using a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus and max out around 41-42 C. You'll need to take out the mobo to install it though, it has a backplate. Also make sure thermalpaste is smooth
@pikaporeon i just checked and the stock fan is at 100% RPM at 69 degrees celsius.... is that still bad? i mean it seems bad. but you really think thats whats throttling my fps?
@kendog0013 yeah for sure, because that's probably not at full load, which would crank the temps even more - I think we found your problem. That said most AMD heatsinks have been fine so def make sure it's seated properly. if its got a lot of play when you try and move it, then you have your problem right there -cant give much more advice as i havent done much with a stock amd heatsink in years except in systems i built for my friends and htey didnt have trouble. Just make sure its latched tight
@pikaporeon i had my friends dad who works on computers all the time attach it correctly... but from what ive read amd heatsinks are very crappy and is recommended to get an aftermarket heatsink to go with it considering their stock heatsinks are very bad. so,last question, would this work? better then the hyper 212 +?
@kendog0013 As for GPU - no idea what max temp is but most video cards I've had have max temps in the 100s so you should be fine. Mine runs mid 70s-80s without issue
@milzeh what problems are you actually having with the CPU? I mean, while it's outperformed by Sandy Bridge, it's not as if it's going to be a severe bottleneck in anything like gaming - if you're having problems there your issue is far more likely to be your graphics card.
@pikaporeon Thanks for the reply. Would shutting down 2 cores make it faster in games? Do you think windows 7 will bring out a patch to make the bulldozer equal to sandy bridge?
I am building a new PC. I have some troubles finding the best processor: Is this better than the Phenom II 975 BE? Both are in the same price range, I don't have money to get a more expensive one, I want a good price/quality. Any ideas?
Cool yea i already found my motherboard ram amd everything else for the i5. Always been amd fan and built amd pc but im not for either and not like others fighting for whos better, i thin intel and amd are both hooking us up with awsome tech. Not to mention the cost for great cpu and gpu being so much more affordable. Hopefully that will get some pc builders back in the game :D
I actually switched my choices between he 1100 t and i5 2500k. Reason being that i really dont need all those cores, as i looked into it i found out why having more cores is good. The quad is good enough for pretty much all gaming and the phenom is also and keeps the door open for when more cores is needed more still a tough decision but ill take my time. Ill post a video of my new build :D should be sweeet
@BoY860 the 2500k is prob the best deal on the market performance wise - only reason I didn't go for it is I wanted to give my business to AMD regardless.
How is this handling, im having a hard time choosing between this and 1100t. More toward fx. I have been out of the game sense dual core where the best lol i still have my dual core 6400+
@BoY860 Well here's the thing most people don't realize. Bulldozer architecture is brand new! Thus meaning there really is no software utilizing the full power of an fx processor. Honestly buying the 1100t would be foolish seeing as its old.. Once the software catches up with the technology the FX series will be the best cores out there. I recently bought the 6100, its a monster. (coming from an Athlon 5000+
@MrR33FA i am trying to get info on this chip as it is ver cheap in terms of pricing and alot of bad reviews plus thats what iv been trying to say that the software hasnt caught up yet plus its reading the am3+ as m2 if that make any sense at all
@jeenormus hit me up and i'll give you all the info you want dude. This process combined with an ASUS 990 evo MOBO and 8gb 1866 gskill sniper ram installed windows 7 in 12 minutes.. to a 5400 rpm laptop hdd... I ripped a dvd to my HDD in 4 minutes 45 seconds. (Sherlock Holmes, its funny) It really is a beast processor, and just cuz PCMark 1988 says it sucks means nothing. Wait for a modern benchmark to utilize the new architecture. Those are all personal 'benchmarks'. Nuf Said.
@MrR33FA what im thinking current stuff read the am3+ as the old m2 i have everything in place on a new build ( gigabyte UD7-990fxa ) based the 6100 is 130£ in the the u.k and thats 40£ cheaper than the x6 phenom 1100T . and a 6870 and its hard to find over here
@jeenormus If you have an old GPU use it until the AMD 7K series comes out (rumors Q4 of 2011 or q1 of 2012) As for the processor, the 6100 was the same price as the 1100t when i got mine. I just didn't want to invest in a processor that has been out for 2+ years. Sure its beast, but its old technology.. i would recommend sniper ram. Its FAST!
@MrR33FA i have got a 6870 and 16gb of rip jaws gskill amd optimised version at 1600mhz at default everything is up to date in my system except the cpu all i would need it the cpu also have the thermaltake frio for cooling . my rig is already set up :)
@milzeh If you wish you went with the i5 why didn't you? I'm not a fanboy of either company but I'm just going to tell you, if you're experiencing issues on the gaming side its probably your graphics card. I use my system for occasional gaming, but its mostly a work horse. I have the fx6100, 16gb g-skill sniper 1866 ram, asus 990 motherboard, nividia 8800gts x2.
@TheGobedan I'm using a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus heatsink, with one fan blowing towards the top of my case and it's 200mhz top exhaust fan - Case is a Corsair 600T Special Edition.
I get 41 C at both Idle and Load - Idle the fan controller has it pegged around 400-500 RPM, load between 1100 an 1300 RPM
