Not allowing the "player"side for free will doom this game, because it depends on the motivation of the "Creator" to set up scenerios and landscapes. You might have to involve 10 people to try it in order to get 1 person who will become a regular. I cant see paying for every potential player
@Knapperr Its a perfectly reasonable question, when you buy it you receive a code, send that code to a friend, they can enter the code on the site to download the game.
You can play with anyone whose IP address you get--for example, at any of the newly-sprung-up Sleep Is Death communities, like Cardchest or Sidtube. The 2-copies thing is really just a get-started-now kind of incentive.
If you buy the game (I am waiting for the fix update tomorrow) I can let ANYONE be the player? Or I have to buy the game for me and only 1 other person? That is the deal maker or breaker for me..
I am really fascinated by this but I think you shouldn't be limited to 2 copies... let's face it the person who is goign to buy this is the creator / story teller / dungeon master whatever you want to call it type. If I buy it... I should be able to run it with ANY player.. not just a buy it and can only play with 1 other... maybe it does let you play with anyone... I'd like more info.
@dmjersak You'll need a friend who also has the game. It's very much about playing with a friend. In theory a community could develop where you'd connect to a stranger, but I think the main idea behind this game is for you and a friend to create a story together. Also, you need the IP address of the computer you're going to connect to in order to play through the story that has been created.
$14 for two copies is totally reasonable for a game this awesome. I just played through a story I made this morning with a friend and it was amazing. Completely worth buying. Giving it away for free would only keep the genius who made it from becoming successful and making even more content for it. You could always convince a friend to buy it and give you their second copy, though.
Sure, but why screw over an indie game developer like that? $14 is peanuts. Support good games and new ideas by PAYING FOR THEM. I'd understand if this was a game made by some big corp like Activision asking for $60 a copy, but this guy built the game from the ground up. Support him!
@illskillzmagill Agreed, but the 'player' side should be free to give out from the storyteller side. As I understand now it is the same program - but I would imagine the people who are going to be buying this are creative types or writers ect... so once you make a lot of stuff you are going to want to have people play.... It seems the player side interface is so simple it should be easy to do this... in any case I am going to buy it and give it a try.
@illskillzmagill So wait... do you have to buy copies for everyone you want to play with? or do you only buy one 'creator copy' any anyone can play as the player but you have to 'buy it' to have the editor and be the storyteller / dungeon master? It seems ridiculous for me to have to buy an extra copy for everyone I want to play with.... if I make a story i want to try it with multiple people... then if they like it they can buy a creator copy.. that seems to make much more sense...
You get two copies for $14. Since this is only a two-player game, that's one copy for you and one for a friend whom you want to play with. Both copies function as both the story editor and a player-side copy which allows you to play other peoples' stories. It's a great deal, considering most games only give you one copy for their asking price. This way, you not only get a copy of the game, but you ensure that you can play with someone else as well.
@illskillzmagill Ok so wait... what happens if the player who gets the other copy suddenly doesn't want to play anymore? Yet I do.... I am screwed then.. I have a game and no one to play with! I think the model should be changed so the creator takes on the charge and can give the 'player' side to anyone. Otherwise... there is a bunch of suck dead end scenario's that can happen when the other person doesn't want to play.
@illskillzmagill I am totally for paying the person who made it. What i am saying is, I don't want to HAVE to make someone else buy it to 'play' what I create. I think the programmer should consider making just a free 'player' side download, and charge for the person who buys the creator side. Do you get what i am saying? I would rather pay double, or even triple the price for this, than being locked in to only being able to play with me and the one person.

Loving the concept of this game. But it is waaaayy too hard to host and join games.
Just need a little random game browser and one with to track your friends. based off of their username instead of IP.

I'd love to see a DnD mod for this game.

@Natendo64 Exactly what I was thinking too. It would be fantastic.

@Natendo64 With the right sprites and backgrounds (which you draw by yourself) the game is already dnd. One player, one dungeon master.

This game is one of the most awsome ever! I think Jason's games are ones of the few games that can be considered being videogame art. Great work!

Do you think this will evolve to a 3D style device?

Aside from flipping textures and objects, can you rotate them too?
For example going from being an upright object to being sideways or upsidedown?
