never thought akiba became so popular cuz they had been called weird till bubble economy in japan bursted. socially speaking, akiba is the mirror of japanese economy.
@oiomusicproductions Interesting concept Toshi! We could say the young people's spending is supporting the older peoples saving even...a rough anology of todays youth supporting the futures elderly lol ; D
@ClaudiaNihon Theres a lot of great computer shops, I love checking them out...Not really interested in the maid cafes, but we might go one day...have a good one Claudia : )
wow thats a lot of stairs lol the city is so clean wish it was where i lived lol , love the idea of lockers in the city like that i've been shoping before and had so much wished i could have stored it someplace like that will send a letter to local council give them the idea (na there too cheap) lol damm thats a big game shop mmm i think i just found heaven : ), nice ramen mate lol
@sheffguy29 You can't see it in the video, but those stairs were getting a lot of use too lol...the lockers are very handy, we use them a lot. They have quite a few massive multi level game centres in Akiba. I should have grabbed some video, but we were kinda in a hurry.
There are a couple of good Japanese restaurants here in Omaha and NONE of them serve bowls of Ramen. They have bowls of soba and what not and they are between $10 and $14.
Hahah!!! Someone was rocking out to the CARS. Thats a random song to hear. Wow! DURAN DURAN to? Whats up with that? LOL!! Im not sure if there are any coin lockers left here in the states.. I think theyre afraid someone is just going to put a bomb in one. Or use it for other nefarious activities...But you probably could have just left your bag in a corner somewhere and it would still be there when YOu got back. Only in Japan. LOL!!!
@edtomorrow Yeah I heard a lot of 80's music, guess its still in vogue....lol your probably right! They have rules about leaving unatended baggage though. So if it went missing, it would probably be the police lol
Akihabara looks amazing! I definitely got to check out Akihabara when I'm finally in Japan. I noticed there was a lot of what looked like Maid Cafes there. I heard that over there you're not allowed to ask the girls out on a date or ask for their phone number in Maid Cafes : (
@joelmb1000 They're not fond of video camera either, I saw heaps this day. But didn't wasn't in the mood for covert video's or photography lol...Personally I'm not interested anyway. I enjoy Akiba for its electrical stores : )
This first song that was playing in the background was a song by The Cars called "Drive" and the next one you said you liked was a song by "Duran Duran" called "Hungry Like The Wolf." Just in case you didn't already know that. I think I would be lost in Akihabara for hours at a time! I always enjoy your videos because I practice reading some of the signs. I can read Hiragana/Katakana pretty good but I have a ways to go at reading kanji.
@cloudstrifeification There were some great songs in the early to mid 90's...kinda went crappy for the later 1/2, but it sure offered up an awesome contrast for the 90's...Hopefully there's a lot more J language signs in the vids to come. I think there probably will be...Its always interesting to hear what other people have noticed in the vids...cheers mate : )
I've always wanted to go to アキバ. Being an anime fan that's not unusual. How big is Akihabara? I've always pictured it as one long street, because that's how people have always described it, but it seems like you went all over. I'm really jealous.
@blackhat2005 Actually we didn't go far at all. Looked in about 5 shops for a phone, grabbed some ramen, went to a game shop & bought a couple of games, then headed off to a hotel near a club for New Years. I guess Akiba is about 25 mins walk, by about 25 mins lol ; )
One thing I notice in your videos is HOW CLEAN THE STREETS ARE!! It is so gross to walk down a sidewalk here and constantly be watching out for gobs of spit or gum.
@finalfantasy4everock Tokyo does have nice clean looking street & most of the buildings are all relatively new also...I almost cut out a bit of footage after the coin locker though, coz I thought the ground didn't look nice lol ; )
i am a big anime fan it was cool seeing all the anime banners out of the buildings. but my one friend got me in to japan but first i was just in to the anime. i am glad that my friend got me in to japan there is alot to learn over there and cool things to see
@Basurci A lot of people look at me in Japan. Especially when I'm walking along talking to a camera. There's a lot of Anime shops in Akiba, you'll love it there.....No I said, its hard to film smoothly, not drag. I was dragging it through 1/2 a foot of snow in the morning...Unlocking the phone wasn't the problem, but buying one without a phone plan was. Well unless you don't mind spending over $500 on a phone...Cheers mate!
@gaell123 lol she's kind of used to it, I do it all the time. Fumi wasn't excited about going to Akiba, she's a bit sick of it coz we've spent so much time there.
@DonFlute22 Huge orange biliboard where says 2011.1.26 out is "The World God Only Knows" And yea i think wen he was moving camera to diffrent direction you could see blue biliboard with K-on! :D But I'm not sure x]]
@MicknFumi Its the red one, its above the coin locker on the building. While looking at it again when i am awake and sane, it most certaintly ISNT K-ON!! but it looks interesting, and i cant read japanese. barely speak it lol.
@DonFlute22 Sounds like our Japanese levels are about the same then lol...I'm glad its the red one, that should be easier for Fumi to read. I'll ask her this afternoon, in like 5hrs. Just remind me if I forget, I'm planning on getting stuck into some more editing this arvo : )
Akihabara is such an awesome place to just walk around! But for me, I felt a little bit overwhelmed, I must confess!! 'Cause that place was sooo crowded!! So you got already familiar with Japan and its busy streets, or do you feel still a little bit like a Gaijin??
@chrismecking lol mate, I'll always feel like a gaijin when we visit Japan. That will never change & I can never get used to the busy streets either. I get very tired of it after a few days & can't wait to get out of the city. My favourite parts of Japan are out of Tokyo. Akiba is great for electrical shopping though. But you should still research the products your interested in, coz I noticed this year. It was'nt as cheap as it used to be!
@TokioDylan The interesting parts of Akiba is off the mainstreet, I like the little basement & shops you get to by an elevator off some alleyway lol...I guess Tokyo is like a small world, but its bloody big from my perspective. I mean if you jump on a train in the middle of Tokyo & head in any direction apart from Tokyo bay. Its going to be 45 mins until you see anything resembling a rural area. Most people from overseas wouldn't even consider Perth a city lol, yet its the W Oz capitol city : D
I've lived in several major US cities so I was just expecting Tokyo to seem bigger when I came, because it always looked like it on film, like Hachiko crossing. It always looks so big but it's not. Or how you can literally walk from district to district in no time. I've done Yoyogi to Harajuku to Shibuya several times, but on film they're each always portrayed as like their own entire city lol. I digress though. Great video anyway :)
@TokioDylan Thanks mate...I remember reading somewhere, the stats on how many people occupied a small distance & how Tokyo had the highest person to space ratio in the world. I tryed to recall where I read it. I think "A Short History of Japan" by Curtis Andressen. I was going to flick through, then thought. But wait, I doubt it calculated the many levels of Tokyo. Like the Subways, basements & multi storey buildings. But anyway, guess it depends on where you draw the line of being Tokyo City :)
Very true, a bit pricey. But when your my age, not in a relationship, looking for language practice, and have the opportunity to talk to some of the (I think THE) cutest girls in the world, I think I'll take i when I'm in Japan...lol. But I take your point...plus your married so your always with a girl you like...
@TokyoNerd There are so many good looking girls in Japan. I like J girls with long dark natually coloured hair & not too much make up. But then I could say that about all the girls in the world, only not nessarily with dark hair lol...But yep, almost married 12 years now & Fumi is even less interested in the maid cafe's than I am ; )
@MageThief Its a fun place when your chasing something electrical....no we didn't go there. This was a pretty quick pop in on the way to somewhere else. We spent 45 mins looking for a phone, 30 mins eating & about 30 mins grabbing some Wii games : )
@MageThief Yep I've been working on 3 vids today. One for a collab, one for our main channel & one for our second channel...I'll edit & upload some video of the games we grabbed within the next couple of days : )
