@phinny5608 Also to listen to the Springsteens song and digest what we had seen. Easily one of the best movies I've ever seen. Very moving and powerful film
@PrestonLions3 Thru the duration of the movie, he has heart problems due to steriod use. Had heavy chest pains during the match. He wanted to go out with a bang. RIP Randy the Ram!
I thought The Wrestler was a good film but it was sad that he wanted so much to reconcile with his daughter yet falling into bad habits prevented him from doing so.
@PointerRyan Yes, we would have to assume that. It's not a happy ending. But the ending is more of a metaphor. I guess, we have to accept that some movies resolve everything while others don't to make a point. I remember the film 'LIMBO' (bruce springsteen also does the theme song for that) had a crazy unresolved ending that pissed me off. But now, I accept it because it makes the film strong.
@Makingnewnamesisdumb I don't think HE gave up everything, but rather he thinks everyone gave up on him. His jump is a metaphor, and not 'does he survive or die'.
@deeh333 Of course he dies. How obvious does the director have to make it? The audience expects stuff to be flat out shown to them without thinking about it. Infer mother fuckers!
Personally i believe he died in the ring in the movie He died where he belonged with his family where he was happy and he died doing what he loved most and he gave it his best shot a view of the old Randy the Ram not the broken down down and out shell
@youcantwrestle chris benoit?? why would you include him?? he doesnt deserve to rest in peace. He kill his wife and kid.......A 7 year old dude, that fuck up.

@boldertits its wierd how you say anybody who uses the word troll is a troll, so if the troll is accusing someone of being a troll even thought he knows hes a troll but that the other guys is a troll and hes trollin the guy he thinks is a troll, thats being a troll so are you calling yourself a troll or are you implying you're a troll? i think you're subcociously trolling people you think are trolls but not really to put the fact that you see yurself as a troll into the back of your head

@KaiserReich98 you serious? yeah watch it again and put the clues together....he died...he was born a wrestler and will always be...even to his death.
Mickey Rourke is the best actor of his generation, at the same level of brando, and of course much better than idiots like Sean Penn doing a movie of gay, (which I fell asleep after 15 minutes), brad pitt, george clooney, and other Hollywood clowns.
if mickey in 90 had not been so rebellious, if instead of screwing his face had been dedicated to what he does best, acting, we would be talking about the best actor in history without a doubt.
I think it's that it doesn't matter that he died, he lived on through the crowd with them cheering. He couldn't care less if he died, he wanted to live on through the crowd.
@MattMajid28 I actually shed a tear. I used to love Pro-Wrestling, and this movie reminds me why, even though it also shows the negative parts of that profession. Also makes me glad I never became a wrestler.
The Wrestler's story is a chronicle that goes together with "Black Swan". They are very similar movies, not in aspects of technical directing, but each plot shares lots of characterstics.
@Mrcapo100 It shares almost exactly the same plot as "For Love of The Game". Although it is different sports, both athletes were past their prime, both were great at their job, but awful in life, only this is a lot darker, and the latter has a happy ending.

@xELECTRIFYINGx hes having a heart attack. they say just to do the pin. he refuses and does his finishing move which causes too much strain on the heart. he then dies
Darren Aronofsky is a legend for believing in Mickey Rourke. I'm not sure if Mickey would have given the same performance under any other director. This movie was purely an actors movie, and Darren worked real hard with Mickey in making sure it was hell for him, in order to give the perfect performance which makes us really care for him
Epic ending, epic film, i love this film... i remember when i saw it on the cinema, when i saw he is going to jump cause the woman wasnt there to see him... i knew what is gonna happen...
There is no better death than die with honour and die doing what you love to do.
I think it's so obvious that he dies. He was clearly having a heart attack and the way his opponent kept saying "bring it home" just shows that the wrestler is finally at one with his end.
It doesn't matter if he died or not. The point is that he is going to keep wrestling until people stop showing up, no matter how few, or until it does kill him. Maybe he died 30 seconds after this shot, or maybe in another match 4 years from now. This specific stage is less a final bow and more of an acceptance of his future.
@Kruezoraxe I think that in the end, his own passions caused him to be selfish to the point that he ignored the people, and the world around him. That's the point :P
@toge2001 selfish? wtf is wrong with you? the PEOPLE AROUND him were being selfish with him, so he had to go lean on his passions as a way of relief. i guess you dont know how it feels to have a passion and chase it.
@Kruezoraxe Well said! I am one of those who think he died He was going to die no matter what he was either going to wither away and die or go down fighting To me he died the way he wanted in the ring doing his thing where he was truly happy
To people that don't understand the art of cinema, the very last frame displays Mickey jumping off the top rope and the camera doesn't follow him. It looks likes he goes upwards, giving us the impression that he's ascending to heaven, or the heavens, which may signal what his fate was after that jump... this ending isn't as ambiguous as some people think just because they didn't show him die.
@AGentertainment Actually the ending is completely open for interpretation. Both Mickey Rourke and Darren Aronofsky have said it is up to the viewers to make there own conclusions at to whether or not he died. I could argue that of him floating above the camera is done to reflect the last time it willo ever be his moment in the ring. That is his last impact on the wrestling world before he has to bow out.
MICKEY ROURKE SHOULD HAVE WON BEST ACTOR. THIS MOVIE SHOULD HAVE WON BEST PICTURE. FUCK THE OSCARS. SO CORRUPT.

This movie was purely an actors movie, and Darren worked real hard with Mickey in making sure it was hell for him, in order to give the perfect performance which makes us really care for him

What is it about ambigous endings to guys in stories set in New Jersey?
FWIW, even though I'm probably "wrong", I choose to believe that the Ram Jam and Tony Soprano live on...

He was clearly having a heart attack and the way his opponent kept saying "bring it home" just shows that the wrestler is finally at one with his end.
ilovenarwhales 1 year ago
It doesn't matter if he died or not. The point is that he is going to keep wrestling until people stop showing up, no matter how few, or until it does kill him. Maybe he died 30 seconds after this shot, or maybe in another match 4 years from now. This specific stage is less a final bow and more of an acceptance of his future.

@Kruezoraxe he actually hit the ram jam and won the match

@HBK4ev3r How do youknow?

@Kruezoraxe I think that in the end, his own passions caused him to be selfish to the point that he ignored the people, and the world around him. That's the point :P
toge2001 9 months ago
@toge2001 selfish? wtf is wrong with you? the PEOPLE AROUND him were being selfish with him, so he had to go lean on his passions as a way of relief. i guess you dont know how it feels to have a passion and chase it.
valiantseagull 9 months ago
@Kruezoraxe I was there in person.....he won the match if anyone is intrested

@Kruezoraxe Well said! I am one of those who think he died He was going to die no matter what he was either going to wither away and die or go down fighting To me he died the way he wanted in the ring doing his thing where he was truly happy
ohwell94 6 months ago
Greatest movie ending ever. Don't give a fuck what anyone says.
evanescencerawks 1 year ago
He'd rather die in the place that makes him the happiest, the ring, around his fans, rather than live alone.

@AGentertainment ascending to HELL u mean

@AGentertainment get off your high horse. thats the most simplistic reason iv heard of how it signifies he dies
jesus christ some people on youtube are just assholes
provenelk 1 year ago
@AGentertainment Actually the ending is completely open for interpretation. Both Mickey Rourke and Darren Aronofsky have said it is up to the viewers to make there own conclusions at to whether or not he died. I could argue that of him floating above the camera is done to reflect the last time it willo ever be his moment in the ring. That is his last impact on the wrestling world before he has to bow out.
It's all personal decisions(sp?)
