I have to correct you on using it in the bathroom. Years ago we remodeled ours andI used tissue paper and modge podge. I took square pieces of tissue paper and crinkled them up and glued them on with the mp and when dried I went over with a coat and it came out beautiful... I am glad it was just a small section I did because it took forever, but the end results were beautiful. Wish I had taken pictures, but I did not.. and have since sold the apartment. But yes, you can use it in the bathroom.
I am actually starting a project using mod podge to revamp an old tv stand I have into a coffee table. I purchased a brayer roller for the wrinkling/bubbling issue but I'll be using magazine covers, photo paper, movie posters, etc. Do you think this method would work?
@mahtime2shine I do think it would work. Definitely use the brayer! Those work amazingly well. The key to not getting wrinkles is to use just enough Mod Podge to make the paper stick well without over-saturating the paper . I don't think you'll have any issues with magazine covers, but if you happen to throw in some actual magazine pages, those still might wrinkle a bit because they're so thin. The brayer should definitely help with that.
You said that you've used Mod Podge for fabric as well as paper. I would like to use it to decoupage with fabric (brushed cotton, in this case). Will that final application of Mod Podge on top of the fabric change the feel of the fabric?
@mariokartracing1 I doubt that they're expensive, but I don't decoupage enough to compel me to purchase a special tool for it. If you plan on decoupaging quite a bit, then it would definitely be worth it to purchase one.
@kaylz1104 I'm actually not sure. It's been years and years since I last used a homemade decoupage. I'm sure you can find several recipes online, but I always stick with Mod Podge because I get consistent results with it. Sorry I can't be of more help!
OMG! Thank you soooo much for this tip! I have done so much decoupage thru the years & ALWAYS get wrinkles & bubbles. I just kind of accepted it:) I can't wait to try this. TFS!!
@pahderyah92 You can purchase Mod Podge at most craft stores. If you have a Michael's, Hobby Lobby, or JoAnn Fabrics in your city, I know that all three of those carry it.
@clutzberries I've never tried to remove decoupage before, but since it's water based, I would imagine that it could be removed. I can't guarantee that it won't do any damage to furniture, though. I'm just not sure.
@pinkmoonmist It seems like I waited about an hour to coat the top. I have topcoated it with a water based sealer, like Polycrylic, in a satin finish before, but I can't remember ever using a matte finish before. The original glossy finish actually doesn't look that glossy to me, so on small projects, I generally leave it alone.
just curious... how long does it take for it to dry before you put the top layer on? I wanted to start decoupaging some flea market chairs with magazine clippings. should i use this same technique for that project as well? thanks!
@willowmistacres I generally wait about an hour. It doesn't take that long to dry, but I just like to be sure. Magazine pages tend to be quite thin, so I'm honestly not sure that you'll get a wrinkle-free finish even with this technique. Just be sure that you don't use too much Mod Podge, and you'll get minimal wrinkles.
I just decoupaged a Family Rules Canvas and it is absolutely ruined because of the bubbling. I had done all the lettering by hand using a Painter's Paint Pen. It took me forever. I cried. I am still crying. I wish I had watched this first. I am still going to complete this project, I am just going to start over. :o(
@ShananTrail I'm so sorry to hear about your Family Rules canvas. I can definitely understand your frustration. I ruined several decoupage projects before I finally learned the tricks. Hope your next one turns out perfectly!! :)
A brayer is a perfect tool for this!

@cooljerk1949 It will definitely change the feel of the fabric. Mod Podge will seal the fabric, so it basically won't feel like fabric anymore.

Why not use one of those roller things? Are they expensive?

you might try using a hair dryer rather than fanning the glue. I haven't tried; just an idea after watching your vid
howedelamitri 2 months ago
I always apply the glue to the paper and I find I have better results than applying the glue to the other part.

Do you have any hints for decoupaging fabric to wicker baskets?

Invest in a brayer, it'll help keep things smooth

Did you use card stock?
Heavenlysedated14 5 months ago
@Heavenlysedated14 I used scrapbook paper. Some of it was heavy like cardstock, but some was much thinner.

It I decopodge my light outlet is it removable?
IVYY21 5 months ago
@IVYY21 I've never tried to remove it, but I do believe you can. Mod Podge is water-based, so it should remove with water.
